Brownsburg is a well-preserved historic village, established in 1793 and was a bustling business center on the ‘Old Stagecoach road’ between Lexington and Staunton, Virginia. In the early 1800’s there were 20 Houses, 3 General Stores, a School, 2 Shoe Factories, 3 Wheelrights, 2 Tailors, a Tanyard, a Saddelry, a Cabinet Maker, a Carpenter, a hatter, 2 blacksmith shops, and 2 mills.
The building you’ll be staying in started its life as a guest house for the Trotter House, the original founder of Brownsburg, located behind it on Hays Creek Road (just behind our B&B); it later housed three General Stores operated by the Whipples, Supingers and Swopes, as well as Bud Wade’s barbershop and pool room. Most recently it housed Old Soth Antiques for about 30 years. The building has been tastefully restored, balancing maintaining the original character and charm while modernizing the infrastructure (water, electric, heating & cooling, etc.). The property is quite unique and special inside and out – enjoy the pictures on our website.
