Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.
Town: Dating back some 500 years, the fishing village of Portpatrick features a small rocky bay, sheltered by cliffs, and was once a thriving seaport. Today known as the 'Jewel in the Crown of Galloway', it boasts a variety of stunning cliff-top walks, secluded bays and beaches, and a fine selection of harbour-side pubs, restaurants and gift shops. At the south end of the village visitors can find the Lighthouse Pottery, offering stunning views of the area, and evoking the sense of an amphitheatre, with a line of attractive buildings stretching across the skyline. Portpatrick is also home to one of the 30 life-boat stations in Scotland, offering an exhibition that is well worth a visit. There is an excellent beach with launching ramp, both rock and freshwater fishing, and several boats, which transport sea anglers out from the harbour to catch warsse, cod, mackerel, whiting, plaice and skate. With golfing, bowling, and tennis facilities close by, Portpatrick is the perfect location for a relaxing break.
