Location combined with history and design makes Coral Condo a prize piece of vacation real estate. This cozy one bedroom is located in the heart of Old Town just one block off Duval Street, where you'll find many of the attractions visitors come to the island to enjoy. This large corner condo is on the second floor of the restored Hollinsed House, one of Key West's turn of the 19th century Victorian homes that has been meticulously converted into contemporary vacation rental condos.
Coral Condo opens onto a wrap-around porch overlooking the courtyard and pool on one side and fashionable Southard Street on the other. The Condo is listed as having one king bedroom but that doesn't tell the whole story: there's also a queen pullout sofa with a memory foam mattress. (3 people maximum in this unit.)Your first thoughts upon arrival will probably be of spending time in the heated pool provided for the exclusive use of Hollinsed House guests. This amenity is surrounded by an expansive antique brick deck ringed with tropical foliage that creates beauty and privacy. As the eternal summer sun moves across the sky, sunshine plays through palm fronds creating a pattern of shadows and bright sparkles over the pool surface and deck. The deck features plenty of chaise loungers where you can stretch out in sun or shade to watch a puffy white cloud or two float across the sky. Tables with chairs, a barbeque grill, and a delightful fountain complete the scene. Although Key West is an outdoorsy kind of place, your living quarters are also an important component of your vacation. The front door to Coral Condo opens into a great room with generous living space and a small dining area. A bonded leather couch and two armchairs face a glass bookshelf and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. Sit here in comfort for a little down time. Maybe watch TV or a movie. Or perhaps you'd prefer to share cocktails and conversation with family or friends. A high, beamed ceiling above holds a paddle ceiling fan that adds air circulation and a touch of tropical design. The hardwood floors under foot are elegant and practical. Nestled behind the couch is a round glass table and two high-backed rattan chairs with pillows. Both outside walls of the great room have multiple windows and French doors that open to the front balcony. Just off the living room is a full bath with shelves full of white textured towels, a generous mirror, and an artistically interesting lighting fixture over the sink. Right beyond the bath is a U-shaped kitchen nicely designed to include all the conveniences you'd expect, including a dishwasher and microwave. The décor is a striking blond wood and blond floor tiles with black appliances, black countertops, and complimentary tiny backsplash tiles. It's a perfect kitchen for whipping up a whole meal or just brewing a cup of coffee to take out to one of the chairs on the 2nd floor balcony or down to the pool area.Through a doorway in the great room is the spacious bedroom, which like the rest of the condo space has plenty of windows to let in the island's lovely ambient light. Even with the king bed, there's plenty of room left over for matching white wicker furniture: a dresser and mirror, two armchairs, a TV stand with TV, and bedside tables with lamps. Nothing seems crowded or inconveniently placed. Everything invites relaxation. Once you've put on suntan lotion and unpacked your shade hat, it's time to explore some of America's only Caribbean island. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, unusual flora and fauna, or the myriad opportunities to have fun, all you need do to begin your exploration is walk one block down to Duval. This famous street spans the island's two-mile width from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico. The many attractions include Smathers and Higgs beaches, the Southernmost Point, Hemingway House, the Truman White House, Fort Zachery Taylor, and the Historic Seaport to name a few. While you're in town, check out the tours, museums, water sports, shopping, bars, and over two hundred restaurants in all price ranges and covering all diet specialties, many with open-air seating, some right on the water. Maybe take a Conch Train Tour or a Historic Key West Walking Tour. Be sure to save time for the world famous Mallory Square sunset celebration where crowds of visitors and locals alike gather to witness the sun sink into the horizon. Like those around you, you'll find yourself applauding as the last round edge of fiery orange slips out of sight. Then hang around for the party as artists and street performers entertain the crowd. From here you can continue up the boardwalk to check out the Historic Seaport with its restaurants, shops, and tall ships offering day and sunset sails. When you're tired, return to Coral Condo to rest up for more adventure tomorrow. To know what's going on from day to day, check out Historic Hideaways' informative Events page on their website.
