The site of a Roman fort exists today and the village was also mentioned in the Domesday Book. Rocester is home to the famous JCB factory, and the company has landscaped the surrounding area to provide some wonderful walks with some interesting sculptures around the site and the nearby parkland. Most significant of these is The Fossor, which is made entirely of digger parts and is a powerful representation of JCB. Rocester is halfway along the Staffordshire Way which runs the length of Staffordshire and is also at the start of the Limestone Way which goes to Matlock.
