À propos de cet hébergement

Laurel Cottage - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Set back from the quiet road on the edge of the village, the long front garden is the perfect frame for this pretty pale stone cottage. A gravel hedge-lined path leads the eye to the front door and around to a private garden at the rear. A stone porch stands at the centre of the cottage, waiting to welcome you in.

This charming cottage is the epitome of country-chic, the pale colourways, wooden floors, and thoughtful artwork creating a tranquil and peaceful space, whilst comfortable soft furnishings add a feeling of warmth. The ground floor features a welcoming living room with a wood burner, a cleverly designed inner hall, ground floor cloakroom, snug and an exceptional kitchen-diner that wouldn't look out of place in any interior design magazine, runs the width of the cottage. On the first floor, you'll find two pretty double bedrooms and a fabulous bathroom featuring a clawfoot bath, where you can relax amongst the bubbles to your heart's content.

To the rear of Laurel Cottage, there is an enclosed garden with views of the village church. A two-seater sofa and chairs with plump cushions sit on either side of a low-level table, where you can enjoy peaceful, warm summer evenings. A Cotswold stone border is filled with planting and there's a charcoal barbecue and a bistro table and chairs for two. The front of the property is framed by a long garden that leads from the gate to the front door.Ground Floor

Entrance Porch:
As you step through the wooden front door into the porch, you'll find two baskets and coat hooks, where you can leave outdoor coats and footwear.

Living Room:
This elegant room has warm wooden floors underfoot and an original ceiling beam overhead. To the front of the room, a deep-set window overlooks the front garden, a second window looks out to the side of the cottage. A stylish wood burner takes centre stage, it's the perfect spot for cosy winter nights. The plump three-seater sofa invites you to sit and linger a while, there's also an oversized snuggle seat in front of built-in bookshelves, which are packed with novels, and a large, upholstered ottoman. A wooden TV unit holds a selection of games and a 32" Smart TV. Recessed ceiling spotlights ensure the room has plenty of light, however, there are side tables with reading lamps if you prefer a gentler glow.

Inner Hall:
There is one step up from the living room into the inner hall. This clever use of space holds a small circular hairpin-leg table and two chairs, perfect for a morning coffee or as a peaceful spot for breakfast à deux, and a bench seat. There's a large wall mirror and natural light comes from the windows on either side. You'll also find a very stylish cloakroom decorated in dark grey with a large circular mirror, which lights up and a handy broom cupboard.

Snug:
Hidden away behind a door (and up four steps) from the inner hall the snug is a cosy room with a large day bed strewn with cushions. It's a quiet place for reading or indulgent afternoon dozes, there's a window overlooking the garden to the rear.

Kitchen-Dining Room:
From the inner hall, there are four steps to the stunning kitchen-dining room which runs the width of the cottage. The apex ceiling gives a feeling of light and space, and the wooden beams dotted with spotlights, echo the original features of the barn which now houses this beautiful room. There is a back door to the garden plus bifold doors which open fully bringing the outside in. Enjoy leisurely breakfasts and convivial evening meals at the farmhouse-style dining table which seats four comfortably. The superb kitchen features pale grey, shaker-style cupboards, which conceal everything you could need for a self-catering holiday, marble work surfaces and a stone floor, warmed by underfloor heating. A double butler sink overlooks the rear garden and there's a range-style electric oven with a five-ring induction hob for preparing delicious meals.

Utility Room:
Tucked away in the utility room at the end of the kitchen are a washing machine and a tumble dryer plus, you'll find a microwave beneath the sink.First Floor

From the Inner Hall, the stairs lead up to the first floor. Natural light comes in through a tiny window to one side.

Bedroom One:
This pretty bedroom has a wooden and upholstered double bed which is made up with soft white linens and plump cushions. Limed-oak bedside tables topped with reading lamps stand on either side of the bed and the built-in double wardrobe has plenty of storage space. The gentle dove grey décor seen throughout the rest of the cottage is also reflected here.

Bedroom Two:
The second of the two bedrooms is equally pleasing with a wooden framed double bed, flanked by bedside tables topped with hanging lightbulb reading lamps. The single wardrobe has plenty of storage and there's a full-length mirror on the wardrobe door. Both bedrooms have windows with views over the front garden.

Bathroom / Shower Room:
The main bathroom is delightful. Generously proportioned, the standout feature is a fabulous stand-alone, clawfoot bath by the window that is just crying out to be filled with bubbles so you can lie back and let the cares of the day drift away. There's also a separate marble tiled shower cubicle with two shower heads, a WC, and a vanity unit with storage beneath, a hand basin and a wall mirror. There is underfloor heating beneath the wooden floorboards, ensuring cosy toes all year round.
Outside

6/10 Satisfaisant

A mixed bag...
I booked this property for a short break, wanting a location away from the main busy villages of the Costwolds and this location fit the bill perfectly. The cottage has clearly had a lot of love, time and thought (and money!) put into its renovation and fixtures/fittings/decor, which shows not only in the photos, but in real life too. The location was great, really sweet, quiet village with a great pub and on the edge of beautiful countryside, within really easy drives of everywhere we wanted to go during our stay. I do need to unfortunately mark it down on a few factors, cleanliness and comfort. - Cleanliness - there were dead bugs on the floor in the lounge and kitchen, multiple spider webs/cobwebs in doorways and windows, windows were so dirty they looked misted, TV and unit was covered in dust, bed frame was covered in dust, there were hairs in the bath and marks on taps, water marks over the mirrors etc. it felt like an extremely lazy clean that someone did in less than an hour, I would have expected better for the price paid. - Comfort - the main sofa in the lounge looks and feels like it is well beyond going to the dump. There is no cushion or spring left in the seat cushions at all and it is very hard and uncomfortable when sat on. It looks old and tired and really not in keeping with the quality of the other items in the cottage. The beds were both small doubles, which I was aware of when booking and can't be helped when furnishing a cottage of this age, however both of us found the bed uncomfortable for sleeping. We'd both had such bad sleeps during our stay that we actually chose to drive home a night early. Also be aware if you are planning to stay in the summer... there is not a fan provided at the property, so we were grateful to have bought our own, as the night time temp in the bedroom was 26 degrees and it wasn't even that warm during the day! All in all I would recommend this property, despite what I said above, as it really is lovely, but please if the property owners read this, improve the cleaning and perhaps consider replacing the main sofa as those two things would really make your property the standard that your investment clearly deserves.

Wonderful accommodation
We had a very relaxing stay at Laurel Cottage. The cottage was pristine clean and beautifully decorated. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need for preparing and cooking meals. Lovely, comfortable outside seating. The bathroom was a very good size and beds very comfortable. Walking distance to a pub with great burgers and a corner shop should you need anything. Great location, quiet neighbourhood. Loved the property.

Lovely cottage
Extremely cosy, beautifully appointed home in a wonderful village. The New Inn was friendly and buzzy down the road. And there were lovely walks to Bibury etc nearby. Shame the log fire didn’t work; it needs proper servicing. The only gripe!
