1930's winter getaway? Yes, please
This place is more than a house.
Its more of a 1930s winter hotel (with modern amenities). We had a large group and this place was perfect. The photos don't express how large the manor really is. Our guests kept repeating, "this place is so cool!"
Having two kitchens was really helpful. Ovens and appliences all worked well. All of the plumbing is fine, and the showers had good water pressure.
There is a finely tuned piano in the main living room. Master bedrooms are massive, and it does have some lake views too.
The add-on carriage house has two separate rooms, and equally as nice as the main house too(also has a kitchen).
Right across the street is Lake Arrowhead village with restaurants, grocery, and shopping. Don't drive it's too close.
The only complaint would be that I didn't know how great the place would be from the photos! I've been staying in Arrowhead for years and this was definitely the best time yet.
The host Scott is great! Very responsive and upfront about any possible obstacles. Would definitely rent from again.
Great time. Fully accommodated our large family get together with 18 people. Close to village and shopping hiking. Plenty of space. Charming lodge. Would recommend.
Thank you Judi! We would love to have you and your family back anytime!
Great location with lots of parking
Rented this rustic lodge for a family reunion. The lodge has some very beautiful woodwork inside. The fireplaces were awesome (but we didn't need them - too hot for a fire). This lodge would not work for anyone who was not able to climb stairs. They are everywhere, inside and outside of the lodge. We had plenty of room for our group and enjoyed being able to walk across the street to the village shops and lake. Scott, the property manager was very helpful in answering questions before our visit. He even made sure that we had the pots and pans we needed to prepare our family meals. We ended up using hand towels as pot holders, since we could only find one very thin pot holder in the carriage house. We also used hand towels for dish towels, since there were none of those as well. Both kitchens in the main lodge had good stoves, dishwashers and trash compactors. We designated the smaller kitchen on level two as our "snack" area. Used the fridge for sodas, etc. The main kitchen and dining room are on the very bottom floor and had windows facing west. These windows did not have any shades on them, so we ended up using a bath towel on the dining room door to block out the blinding light for our evening meals. I agree that it would be nice to have a microwave on that bottom level near the main kitchen. We were able to cool the bedrooms down with the window units by closing the bedroom doors to keep the cool air in. It would be great if ALL windows in the lodge had screens. We opened the windows anyway to get a cool breeze going in the evenings in the kitchen, dining room and salon/library rooms. Not too many bugs got in. As noted by a previous guest, there are some serious plumbing issues in some of the rooms in the main lodge. Also the sleeper sofa in the Library/Media room is decidedly very uncomfortable. There were some lamps that were not functioning because there was no outlet to plug them into. The carriage house did have screens on the windows and the bathrooms (2) over there had good water pressure and temperature. They also had their own kitchen with fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave. Overall we had an enjoyable weekend as a family sharing meals, stories and playing games.
I can't say enough about this house, I loved it! We had 19 adults and the house never felt crowded. Location - across the street from everything. Parking was not an issue with over 10 parking spot. Check in was early and check out 1 pm. This was a perfect place to family reunion. I will stay there again for sure.
Nice property but insufficient a/c and bad plumbing!
We had 16 people in our group; 12 adults and 4 children. While the property was large enough for us all and the house itself, while dated, is a nice house, the window a/c units were too small for the size of the house. In order for window units of that size to cool the house there should be one in each window. There was only one on the entire second floor and none at all on the ground floor where the largest kitchen is. The two bedrooms with king size beds are large and each had two units but even those rooms got hot (not warm!) during the day. The house reached 90 degrees some days. The few fans available were not up to the job. At one point we tried to purchase additional units but none were available in the surrounding communities. In addition, some of the plumbing in the bathrooms needs work. One of the bathroom sinks did not drip but ran constantly. Some said their shower had so much pressure it was painful to take a shower, while others said it was nearly impossible to get wet with the minuscule amount of water dripping from the shower head. One bathtub did not require a stopper for a bath - the plumbing was stopped up so that draining it was the issue. One small issue that should be relatively easy and simple to fix is the lack of a microwave in the big kitchen on the ground floor. It is an annoyance to have to run up a flight of stairs to use a microwave. All in all we had a good week visiting with each other - we had people from PA, VA, TX, NM, CO, CA, and Australia - and it had been a long time since we had all been together, but the heat was absolutely excessive.
Lake Arrowhead home
Great location being right across from Lake Arrowhead Village and plenty of parking spaces 15, We had a party of 20. We came up for our sons wedding. This home accommodated all of us with plenty of room to spare. Scott the manager was very fast in reaching out and so was his caretaker BJ. Scott was kind enough to let us preview the home a few weeks prior in booking before we committed. The home came with air conditioning in all the rooms which was perfect since it was a record weekend of heat. The home had plenty of new towels and blankets. This home has character with old charm. Lots of stairs to climb which was not a problem for us. We had the cottage house too and that was nice for privacy for the grooms men. Thank you for a wonderful time!
