Les points forts : Arrivée, communication, exactitude de l’annonce
Les points faibles : Emplacement
Wonderful views, not so sure about the location
The villa is very modern, though there are some maintenance issues which require attention e.g. handles on the sliding doors fall off. When we filled the jacuzzi there was brown detritus coming from the jets, so we didn’t use it during our stay. The description states ‘no smoking’ which was at odds with burn holes in the settee and outside cushions, as well as the 3 dirty ash trays, one in a kitchen drawer. We couldn’t get the television in the lounge to work and eventually realised the batteries in the remote were dead. Each bedroom has a private balcony with great views overlooking the infinity swimming pool and the sea. The beds were comfortable and the location quiet.
Having stayed in Kalkan previously, we thought we were familiar with both the villa location and the steepness of the surrounding hills and that, as with previous visits, we would be able to walk into the village and get a taxi back. We were wrong. The villa is much further out from the village than we had anticipated, the steepness is not to be underestimated and walks of any length are virtually impossible irrespective of fitness levels.
There is a choice of reasonably stocked supermarkets situated within 100 metres of the villa. Prices are considerably cheaper than supermarkets situated in the village but the walk back up is so steep that only the fittest can do it, never mind carrying the shopping bags!
It is generally well appointed though doesn’t cater well for European travellers. For example, there were nice drinking glasses for Turkish tea, but no glasses suitable for beer (which we bought from the supermarket), no toaster, and even the kettle was a very different design and concept to a European kettle. The owner should provide a written guide explaining, for example, how the television works and which channels, if any, are in English, other local amenities e.g. local supermarkets, advising that all the taxi drivers use WhatsApp so booking a cab is free and your location can be sent via WhatsApp.
We think the villa is overpriced and doesn’t represent value for money. Little touches would have helped, e.g. providing a ‘starter pack’ of basic food items, especially when you arrive at 03.00 in the morning, and having cleaners mid week for a quick clean. There were no tea-towels, no washing up cloth, capsules for the dish washer, washing machine etc. Indeed, the cupboards were all bare so do not expect to find any provisions other than a toilet roll in each toilet
