Helpful owner, nice villa but poorly equipped.

The first thing to say is that Sharon, the owner, was more than helpful in all our dealings with her; we cannot fault her on her management and communication.

We have rented all over the Med but have never before walked into a property that had no hand soap, no washing-up liquid, no salt/pepper/oil. The reason given for the lack of soap was: "Well, if you supply it, people complain it's the wrong sort". Really?...

The villa itself was a good layout, well furnished and with plenty of crockery, albeit mismatched. The cutlery was just sufficient for 6 but there were no scissors, no chopping knives, no breadboard... these are all things that the average holidaymaker will need in a rental property! The towels were fairly rough and threadbare and didn't smell very nice.

The villa had been cleaned but there was a distinct lack of forethought by whoever is meant to check readiness for the next tenants - several light bulbs were missing (agent comment was "Oh, that light hasn't worked for ages" - no, but when you put a bulb in, it does...); the villa guide, which you would expect to find easily on arrival, was tucked away in a drawer and had not been updated since it was written 12 years earlier. It said the washing-machine instructions were "in the top drawer" - there are about 10 top drawers in the villa and the instructions were in none of them.

So, hand on heart, I couldn't really recommend this villa unless you are prepared to bring or do without all the things that the average tenant will need in a holiday villa. Shame, because the village itself was nice, and within easy reach of all the places we wanted to visit.

Réponse du propriétaire: It is a shame that specific comments where not made to the owner at the time as these could have been addressed. Several hand towels are made available for guests and there has never been an issue. The comments will be reviewed and towels replaced where necessary. As regards to sharp objects or cleaning materials, unfortunately due to allergies etc. it is difficult to accommodate for all needs. It is also recommend that sharp items are not included within the utensils, although knives etc. are available for rentees to use during their stay to eat and cook with. Information regarding the villa is mainly online through the Home and Away website but the owner will review the hard copy and update it for the coming season.

Tolles Haus für einen Gozo-Urlaub

Wir waren eine Woche im Herbst auf Gozo und haben die Zeit in dieser urigen Unterkunft sehr genossen.


Auf Gozo ist nichts weit weg. Wir hatten einen Mietwagen, daher war alles kein Problem. Kurzer Weg zur Ramla Bay und nach Victoria. Von dort aus fahren Busse stündlich in jede Ecke der Insel. Dies haben wir bei Wanderungen genutzt.

Haus liegt ca. 200m vom Marktplatz von Xaghra, man kann dort alles fußläufig erledigen. Sehr ruhig in einer kleinen Nebengasse. Einziges Problem: direkt nebenan wurden ca. 15 Hunde in einem kleinen Zwinger gehalten, hier wurde fleissig gebellt.

Haus: Sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Ordentliche, harte Matratzen. 2 Bäder und 1 extra Toilette, daher sehr komfortabel. Sanitäre Anlagen funktionieren sehr gut. Der Pool ist klein aber sehr gepflegt, war jetzt Anfang November etwas frisch, im Sommer sicherlich herrlich. In der Küche merkt man, dass die meisten Gäste sie wohl nicht nutzen, sie fällt zum Rest des Hauses ab: kein Geschirrspüler, Besteck spärlich, kein brauchbares scharfes Messer. Im Vergleich zum tipptopp gepflegten Rest des Hauses etwas vernachlässigt. Man kommt aber klar. Großer Kühlschrank mit Eisfach.


Kontakt zu Sharon sehr gut und freundlich. Bei Problemen kann man immer Paul, den Hausmanager kontaktieren. Auch hier sehr freundlicher und unkomplizierter Kontakt.


Für einen Urlaub auf Gozo ein idealer Ausgangspunkt. Sehr schöne Unterkunft, bis auf die Küchenausstattung und die (vielleicht auch nur saisonbedingte) Nähe zum Hundezwinger perfekt. Wir würden sicherlich wiederkommen.

The farmhouse was lovely with a mix of old world charm and modern amenities.

It is in a very good location to explore all of Gozo in a week and in a very quiet neighborhood. It is an easy walk to the town square of Xaghra where there are some wonderful restaurants. The farmhouse was clean and beautifully decorated. Our only concerns were that the beds were very hard and we had to use the extra duvets under the sheets to soften them. Also we were surprised by the lack of typical supplies that we have found in other rentals such as at least one toll of extra toilet paper per bathroom, a bar of soap per bathroom and dish soap one bottle of drinking water, and salt and pepper at the least. The stores are not always open to get these items when you arrive later. When we arrived we had to wash all of the glasses before using them because we decided the previous renters did not bother to buy dish soap. We thought that this is actually a health issue that needs to be considered. We are sorry to have to share the last comments because we did have a wonderful stay at your place and we would recommend it to others. These are things that would only have improved our great time.

Réponse du propriétaire: Glad you enjoyed Gozo and staying at the property. I would like to answer the queries you raised. Unfortunately due to the different soaps/cleaners, I was advised that these should be bought by the rentees due to allergy reactions for different people and it was safer for Rentees to purchase their own products. As to the beds, I am sorry you found them hard, the beds mattresses where bought last year. All cutlery and table wear is washed before arrival of the new tenants. The cleaner ensures that everything is clean before the arrival. So although you cleaned all glasses on arrival due to there being no soap, it was not necessary to do so. Thank you for your review and I hope that my comments have clarified some of the topics.

Lovely farmhouse in great location

We had a lovely stay in Gozo. The house is very centrally located in Zaghra. The rooms are large and there are lots of bathrooms. The pool was lovely.

The only gripes related to how little in the way of provisions were provided e.g. basic things like handsoap in the toilets, pepper, cooking oil, bin bags etc were missing. Also it would have been helpful to be told the check out time for the final day on arrival, rather than having to send a message to request this. The beds were very hard (uncomfortably so) but we got around this by putting the duvets under the base sheets.

Overall a lovely visit though and we enjoyed the climate, character and attractions of Gozo from the base of this lovely farmhouse.

With regard to provisons the property is supplied with all utilities to cook etc but it is expected that people purchase their own products for food as people have different needs and allergies.
