You are really in nature here!
I loved the drive up, especially when we got onto the actual road the property is on, you really are out there. We saw a little deer family from the deck outside who were totally used to people. The creek was nice but definitely right by the neighbors, though they were also nice! The sun through the trees made me feel happy to be alive. There are a lot of wasps near the front door, so it keep it closed up so they don't get in. There was raid laying out that helped us deal with them inside the cabin but generally they were harmless, even indoors. I love the history of the home, there's this cute scrapbook that shows it all which was fun to flip through over dinner.
The kitchen was perfectly stocked, even your basics like olive oil and some seasonings available. There's a water filter in the fridge but the water is somewhat dense, and salty? I'm sensitive and picky though, so unless you are too, totally ignore this statement haha. If you are like me bring your own water.
It was also one of the cleanest places I have had the privilege of staying at. Everything was spotless. The way the home is furnished was so comfortable and warm.
The extra pillows and blankets offered were useful. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer days even with the air on, so doing something outside or even water related is a really good idea.
Denise was extremely helpful, kind and responsive the entire time. I really appreciated the speedy communication and attentiveness.
This was a 100% 5 star rating for me. You can tell the owners care and can feel the thoughtfulness throughout the entire property. Truly lovely!
The house is beautifully done with antique furniture and wood, very comfortable. The stream behind the property is musical and lovely. Wish we could have stayed longer!
This place was utter magic. The sounds of the creek, the attention to detail and care by the hosts to every little thing imaginable, their obvious love and care of animals and the property itself. Hardly wanted to leave! Only ventured out 2 out of the 5 days we were there. It's a drive to get cell phone service or anything for that matter and I came home so well rested and refilled.
Most eligant Barn ever!
Beautiful converted Barn Cabin with all of the amenities, full size stove and refrigerator, so we had our breakfast and dinners at home. Close to Shasta and Lassen NP, where we spent most of our time. The nearby town of Redding had all of the food gas and shopping conveniences of any town, so we felt right at home even though we're from Maryland.
Not what I expected
We may have been the first guests for this year. Grass area around house and to the creek was overgrown. Then there was a propane leak that forced us to sleep on the futon with windows open. We were charged for our night stay. We booked 5 nights but after propane and mice running around all night we left the next morning. Like I said a charge for a not so great night!
We are sorry that there was an unexpected problem with the propane. Unfortunately, the problem did not arise until late in the evening and there was nothing we could do until the following morning. We spoke with them several times and went to the guest house to see if there was a resolution, but there was nothing we could do. We had already called the propane company by 8:30 in the morning and a repairman was on-site by noon.
When the ladies said they wished to check out that morning, we understood and we refunded their entire payment, including the night that they stayed, and apologized as profusely as possible. The gas was repaired by noon, but we totally understood their concern.
As to the grass, these ladies arrived after two weeks of constant on-again, off-again rainfall that had caused a great deal of overgrowth. The meadow had been mowed shortly before their arrival, but we cannot control the weather and grass cannot be mowed when it is wet. It was a situation where the grass dried out, then it rained again. The meadow was mowed again as soon as the grass was dry enough to do so. Unfortunately, that was a couple of days after these ladies departed.
It is a country house and field mice do sometimes find their way inside. We do our best to discourage them. These ladies did not mention "mice running around" until we read this review. It is easier for us to resolve problems that we know exist.
Again, we apologize for the situation and that their stay was not what they had anticipated. We try very hard to make each guest's stay pleasant and when there are problems we do what we can to make it right. We refunded the entire amount paid as quickly as possible, and received a friendly email from the ladies indicating that the settlement was satisfactory. We are saddened to receive such a negative review. We hope that their future travels are pleasant.
Amazing get -away, secluded and peaceful
This was our second visit to the Barn House. We had experienced it last fall & wanted to catch the Spring ambiance. It did not disappoint, with the sounds of the little creek flowing & various birds chirping all day long. We loved sitting on the large deck, grilling dinner, with nature at our back door. At night it was quiet as could be. We came home refreshed and renewed.
We're always delighted to see our returning guests. We've met so many lovely people and you folks are among our favorites!
