Beautiful rural idyll
What a beautiful property in a stunning, peaceful corner of the French countryside. The property is so homely, a very sympathetically converted old stone barn full of fascinating original features. A lovely, relaxing and comfortable environment with all home comforts you could think of. We had a great time playing Spot The Pig in the house (not real ones!), a really nice touch.
All three bedrooms very spacious, well equipped and furnished with beautiful period furniture. Very good bathrooms, good quality fittings, both look recently refurbished. The lounge is VAST with lovely high ceilings and beautiful, enormous fireplace with wood burner. Also the biggest and most comfortable lounging sofa I have ever seen!
The thick stone walls keep the house really cool in the heat. The outside space is superb. A lovely spacious private terrace with big table and chairs plus good brick built barbecue, plus the extensive communal garden with lovely big pool with loungers and umbrellas, lots of games areas, big shady trees on the wide lawns to sleep under - absolute bliss! You could easily spend your whole break just relaxing in the grounds and not get bored.
The area is very beautiful and great for walks, lake swimming etc. Don’t miss the Wednesday morning market in Pigeut - it is the biggest and best I have seen in rural France, it takes over the whole town with lots of local produce, crafts etc. We spent a lot!
Gill and Pat were great hosts, very friendly and helpful and just across the lane in their home if we needed them. Thanks to you both, we will be back.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. We're really flattered and pleased that you enjoyed yourselves.
Beautiful gites in a lovely part of France!
The gites and pool are just lovely, Gill and Pat were fantastic hosts and the holiday was just perfect. The gardens are large and very pretty, the pool was the perfect temperature and the location was great with plenty to do when we didn't just want to relax in the gardens and by pool. Thank you for a great holiday!!
Thank you! We're really pleased that you all enjoyed your holiday. Gill and Pat
Welcoming, comfortable gite with friendly owners
The gite was lovely and very well looked after. Gill and Pat were extremely helpful and told us about things to do in the area that were appropriate for us and our young children. The area itself is beautiful with no shortage of things to do!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We hope to see you again one day. Gill and Pat
A gem of a gite!
We had a wonderful week in La Chataigne. It was certainly one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Clean, spacious, well equipped and in a lovely area of France. Pat and Gill were always on hand for help( finding us some charcoal!), but were never too obtrusive. A walkers paradise, and Brantomme and Oradour sur Glane are well with a visit. I will certainly be telling friends and family about Les Abres!
Thank you for your kind review, and thank you for leaving La Chataigne so clean and tidy. We're really pleased that you all enjoyed yourselves. Gill and Pat.
Fantastic holiday retreat.
My wife, daughter, her friend and I had a fantastic, relaxing break at Les Arbres. My wife and I have full on jobs. We were seeking a holiday venue that would provide us with peace and relaxation, with the opportunity to experience and appreciate the French culture and tourist facilities that are on offer. Firstly, the accomodation is excellent, with every home comfort that you need whilst on holiday and is accurately described in the listing. It was spotless and well maintained. Pat and Gill are excellent hosts. They leave you in peace to get on with your holiday, but are always at hand to provide assistance. Nothing is any bother to them. They also provide excellent recommendations for eating out and attended to any minor issues that arise. A welcome pack is in each of the gites and they provide you with a weekly update of local activities, which is a great help if you wish to go out in the evening. This is the 3rd time we have had a three week break in the Dordoyne area of France over the last 12 years and was without doubt the best vacation of the three, considering the location, facilities and the excellent customer service provided by Pat and Gill. I would highly recommend Les Arbres and would like to thank our hosts for their friendly hospitality.
Thank you so much for your kind review. It was great to meet you all and we are both really pleased that you enjoyed your holiday. Hope to see you again one day!
