This house was Custom Designed and is a living tribute to Architect and father, Richard Burke Schnedl, a well known NC architect from 1950's to 1990's. This Mountain House is located on 6 acres, with a cave and boulders. It has a beautiful view of Mount Mitchell and its eastern valley. We have radiant floor heat and a whole house generator. The Kitchen is set up for gourmet chefs, and has an incredible view as well. Plenty of Tv's, DVD's and internet fast enough to stream your Netflix or Prime videos. Cell reception is ok, but not exceptional. Centrally located to Asheville, Boone, Grandfather Mtn and Linville Gorge. The Blue Ridge parkway is 3 miles away. And there are dozens of hiking trails within 40 minutes of our house.
Our stay was absolutely a wonderful experience. The home was impeccable, very comfortable and exceeded our expectations. We were celebrating 11 graduates of high school and we had a wonderful and memorable time. Looking forward to coming back again and enjoying this home. The Host was also very accessible and very kind with us. Thank you again. Anna
We return for Thanksgiving because the home and location fits the whole family. There's plenty of room, a great kitchen (and all the appliances we could wish for), and that VIEW!
Family gathered for a holiday. There is plenty of open space for activities and quiet spaces for getting away. FULLY stocked kitchen, including appliances. Lots of nearby activities. Great host. We will return.
This home was simply extraordinary in every possible way, as was the host, from the view and cool July temps compared to those at home to the peaceful atmosphere and proximity to many interesting things to do. Unlike most VRBO rentals, I felt as though I knew the family well by the departure date thanks to the personal items and extra touches in the home.
Thanks for such a wonderful vacation!
Beautiful home, amazing views, but driveway is tough without 4WD or AWD.
The house was really nice, everything was very clean and well stocked, beds were comfortable, and the views were spectacular. But be aware that the driveway isn't paved, and even though the owner shared videos on how to get up the hill without 4WD or AWD, we had quite a bit of trouble with a FWD vehicle. Our other AWD vehicle handled it fine. I drove both so I know it was the vehicle and not the driver.
Our group of four friends stayed here for three nights. The welcoming atmosphere and beauty took our breath away. Some cabins say secluded, but this one really is. We sat on the deck taking in the amazing Mountain View (is that Mount Mitchell in the distance?), heard only the stream at the end of the lane, and felt like we had the world to ourselves. We enjoyed cooking in the open kitchen, found all the things we needed, all while watching the sky turn pink over the mountains. Our rooms were comfortable and clean. We felt like guests at a friendâs home with thoughtful touches (fresh flowers on the counter!). I appreciated the video sent before our check-in to preview the driveway. I was in an AWD vehicle that handled it fine, but it was helpful to see it and know what to look for as we approached. We chose it for its proximity to Little Switzerland and the Blue Ridge Parkway (15 minutes), but we also took drives to Black Mountain and Asheville (about a hour each). Weâd love to stay here again.
My sister and I cohost this house that was built by us in 2015. My sister works in Charlotte, NC for an environmental management company. I am an instructor pilot for Delta Airlines on the Airbus A220 aircraft, and live in Atlanta, GA.
This is not your typical property. It was inspired and designed based on my fathers Architectural desires. There is a slight Frank Lloyd Wright feel to this with cantilevered roofs and overhangs, shallow roof and open spaces. It is also filled with lamps and lighting that my father designed and built. And, there are lots of display areas of his art and Architectural work. This is a living museum, so rambunctious kids don't fit well with this house.
This house has miles of trails starting at the bottom of our driveway, with caves, boulders and serenity. We even have a cave on our property. The night sky can be so dark that you can lay outside with the lights off and see satellites crossing the sky. Our neighborhood has several waterfalls that are hidden, and is located 40 minutes from Grandfather Mountain or Linville Gorge. And, an hour from Boone or Asheville.
