Great location and perfect for families with small kids!
We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the property and location. It was nice that there chairs and beach toys! The owner was great and very responsive! We hope to return next year!
We loved our stay at the cottage! It was clean, and had everything you would possibly want for a week at the beach! The patio, picnic tables and grill were appreciated. It was a 20 min drive to Montague Foods, restaurants and our marina which was very easy. We loved the private beach most of all! Five stars!
We loved our week on the beach! The house was very comfortable, plenty of room for our family. The beach was fantastic. The weather was great and we were able to kayak most days. Would definitely recommend this property!
My family & I stayed here & everyone loved it. On the rainy days we did puzzles, watched movies, went to cherry point farm, fox barn & watched the waves. The sunny days we spent on the beach.
You won't regret staying here.
Stairs to wonderful beach, not terribly difficult. Nearby good attractions. Basic cottage with classic cottage feel, but had what you need. Attentive property manager.
We had a wonderful family vacation at this property. The beach was definitely the highlight and we spent a lot of time there. Laura was very communicative and great to work with. 10/10!
The location of the house in relation to the beach is the best thing! The back porch is a nice place to hang out all day. You can see the Lake and hear the waves. Laura is quick to respond to everything.
Cabin was immaculate on check in. Very spacious, more like a home. Short stairs (Lake MI standards) down to a nice private beach. During weekdays, we had a mile stretch or more to ourselves.
Stony Lake Inn (great local Dive) is open as well as the other local fun spots, without the typical Summer crowds.
Had a great time!
This place is an excellent value for what you get. You essentially have your own private beach very close to the house. I found the house to be in very good shape inside with a very nice master bedroom, and well appointed throughout. While the house is not so great on the outside, that really doesn't matter with everything else you get. I recommend.
Stayed here late July with family. Cottage was very clean on arrival. The best part, without a doubt, is that they have a beach which is rare these days with the lake being so high. There are about 50 stairs down to a nice flat beach area with plenty of room to setup the kids. We spent a ton of time down there and the kids had a blast playing on the beach and in the water.
Laura the property manager was great and very responsive. There were a couple minor issues with the dishwasher and freezer that she helped fix promptly.
Make sure to check out the Silver Lake area and Cherry Point while you're in the area
We had a nice week on the lake; it was fun to get away from the hustle and bustle. The house is nestled in the woods overlooking lake Michigan, with steps down to the beach. The private beach area was amazing, and we had a blast. The weather this week was humid, which made the discovery of a window AC in the master bedroom a delight to behold. The house is very well appointed, and in hindsight we could have brought fewer chairs, toys, and gear for the kids. Laura was a great communicator and helped resolve a few issues quickly! Thanks again.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Murphy Cottage! We especially enjoyed having the walk-down to Lake Michigan and being able to walk on the beach and enjoy access to the water. The privacy was lovely. Lots of trees and shade. The house is a 1950s cottage and is cute with original formica countertops. The house gets a little warm at night and I'd recommend leaving the windows open and having fans running. Nice shower and water pressure. We did purchase drinking water as we are not used to well water.---recommend bringing your own water. The washer and dryer were great and having a clothesline was a perk to hang up towels and bathing suits. Overall a great week at the beach! :)
The first thing you hear when you arrive at this cottage are the waves. The view and sound were definitely highlights of our stay. We booked this cottage for a total of 7 people. There was plenty of space for all of us. There was plenty of bath towels as well. Having a washer and dryer was a bonus. We used the WiFi with computers and that was fine. We had several people working at the same time. There are great views of Lake Michigan from the living room, master bedroom and back porch. Access to the beach was convenient. We brought kayaks and were able to use them a few days on Lake Michigan. Overall a great place for a beach vacation and we will try to return. Laura was super helpful and responsive.
We booked this house for two small families. The house has all the required amenities. Clean on arrival. Easy access to key. Has a direct access to a private beach on Lake Michigan. Beach toys , towels and chairs were provided.
One of the issues were cell phone service does not reach the house. We used the House WiFi to make calls. We did loose electricity briefly one day, where you will loose access to WiFi and well water. We took it a chance to leave and check the nearby petting farm. We could not also have a bonfire due to I guess town restrictions. Laura ( property manager) was very helpful and reachable.
Overall a great place for a beach family vacation. Will definitely try to visit again next year.
The location right on Lake Michigan was the biggest selling point. We had our own private area of the beach to enjoy, with stairs leading down to it. The house was very nice. The master suite was huge, with a king sized bed. There were toys for my grandson to play with. I walked along the beach several times. Stony Lake Inn, only a mile up the street, was a great place to eat. The Hart-Montague Trail is only a few miles away. Lewis Farm is a great place to take kids. The store has lots of treat available for adults (pie, jam, etc.)
We had an amazing time with young children. If you're looking for relaxing and tranquil times this is your spot.
The internet capacity was very helpful for FaceTiming with other family members and running kids shows on the one tv.
The singular bathroom is the only challenge with a housefuls of kids and the need to keep everyone sand-free post beach play.
For us, it was great!
This property is absolutely wonderful for a family unit to escape from reality for a focus on the family. It is quiet yet the waves provide a deafening silence which can be heard as you pull up and throughout the night. Its close to some state parks to allow hiking, sand boarding, Jeep driving on dunes, nature trails and a local Dairy for sweet treats and meats. We were able to gain new experiences while still practicing social distancing.
We really enjoyed our stay at this clean and spacious home. It had all we needed and it was easy to follow owner's instructions. We enjoyed some walks on the beach when the lake was calm; and spent hours watching the waves when the lake was more active. The many shade trees kept the home pleasant and made for a great outdoor place to enjoy the sights and sounds of the lake. Also did some kayaking on the lake and took bike rides on the nearby trails - our favorite trail heading south-east from the Whitehall trail head. This is our 3rd home to rent on Lake Michigan - and is our favorite so far! :o)
