Great secluded property. Comes with everything you need. Yes, there are a lot of stairs to get to the beach. But the beach is practically private and the extra exercise is well worth it.
We were very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful and accommodating the house was. Plenty of linens, towels and household accessories. We were a little shocked at how far it was to the water. The climb up the steps until you hit the gazebo was quite a hike and then another hike down steps to the water. It got easier and easier each day. That was the only drawback to the house. We wished it were closer to the water or at least that we were able to see the water from the house. The house is gorgeous. Plenty of room for everyone and very comfortable. It is very close to Silver Lake and the Dunes so going into town was not a problem at all. It is settled amongst many trees and is very beautiful and peaceful. We overall had an amazing trip and would definitely recommend.
This house is tucked away in a secluded area, surrounded by trees and over the bluff from
Lake Michigan. The house was very clean when we arrived, the only drawback was that the hot tub had remaining sand in it from the previous renter. Sandra was wonderful to work with; we had an issue with a ceiling fan in a bedroom and she worked diligently to get it fixed during our stay, and communicated well with us. The only thing I would caution other potential renters is that there are 64 steps up to the gazebo and then another 93 steps down to the beach, so if you are under the Impression the beach is right outside the door you will be disappointed. This worked ok for us and wasnât an issue - just want others to be aware. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the area and the house.
Upon arrival we observed filthy carpets, garbage still in the cans, dog hair and dog pee throughout. Open food in the fridge (hot dogs, cheese etc...). Sand on the floor and inside the freezer, mouse feces on the mattresses and around the bedrooms. Dirty bathrooms and showers. Squirrel or chipmunk nest under the bed in the upstairs bedroom. Wet rugs scattered around the deck outside.
We spent first four days cleaning and buying mattress covers, cleaning supplies, etc... only because we had 11 of us depending on this for their summer vacation. Manager said they had trouble getting someone out to clean. I would include pictures if we could.... we have plenty. When we talked to the property manager (a day and a half later) she refunded one nights rental fee.
We enjoyed this private, quiet property on Lake Michigan. It was nice having a garage to use and we brought our Jeep to experience the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Sandra was great to work with and was very responsive. Climbing the steps to the gazebo and down to the beach gave us an excuse to try several ice cream shops in town! We spent a lot of time on the deck and the hot tub was great too. Thanks!!
The house was lovely and completely hidden in the woods for privacy. We had a large party of 10 and it was easy to spread out in the house and not be on top of each other. The house is behind a large hill that obscures the beach, and older adults who struggle with stairs will not want to book here as there are a LOT of stairs to get to the beach. But the beach is gorgeous once you get there. No working AC. We had a great time and the rental house is in a region with a lot of activities for families.
Should have read the description a bit closer. Thought the home had a view of the beach. In reality, it is in a "bowl" in the woods. Must walk up 75+ stairs to get to the top of the dune and the gazebo, and then down another 75+ steroids to get to the beach. Granted, the beach is very large, nice, and private. The gazebo use really not usable, not does it have any nice furniture in it. Needs a lot of work. House was not very clean (we swept up an enture dustpan of sand upon arrival, huge spiderwebs and cobwebs everywhere). Air conditioning did not work. Feel like we were overcharged. Most times we actually go look at the home before renting and we did not do this for this property. Learned our lesson. We had a great time as a family, but really desired to be able to spend time on the deck, eating meals etc. In view of the beautiful Lakeshore.
We greatly enjoyed the house and property! The owner gave great directions and easy instructions for everything. The house was very clean upon arrival and had everything we needed. Wonderful house for a family trip!
This house is a wonderful option for groups looking to enjoy the outdoors and the beach without having to interact with many other people. It's secluded but close enough to town that stores and activities are accessible. The private beach is fantastic! The one downside was the many, many caterpillars on the porch. They made it difficult, but certainly not impossible, to sit out there, especially in the dark. For people planning to work remotely from this house, just be warned that the internet, while great for light browsing, as in the description, can't really sustain more than one person working at once. Overall though, this house was a fantastic, spacious place for our big "vacation" of the year!
This property is absolutely gorgeous. The house is comfortable. The outside surroundings are stunning. We had no problem with the steps to the beach and provided us with some of our daily exercise. We enjoyed the hot tub often which was very relaxing. A few issues were the towels were old and dingy, we had to change a couple smoke alarm batteries that started chirping, many outside lights were not working, ceiling fans are very dirty, and WiFi is spotty with limited range. These issues were minimal compared to the overall quality of our vacation.
First time renting from Vrbo. The home/property had some positives and some negatives. It was ok, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. But overall we made the best of everything and had a enjoyable family trip.
We spent a week in this great location on the shores of Lake Michigan. The large house is behind a bluff, nested in a wooded area with a mix of mature leaf- and cone-bearing trees. A flight of stairs leads up to a Gazebo on top of the bluff and another flight of stairs down to a very private, sandy beach on Lake Michigan. We enjoyed swimming, beach walks, and spectacular sunsets. The house is spacious, with big windows opening toward the forest, a nice terrace and a hot tub. Lots of cherry orchards in the larger area around Shelby, so fresh cherries and various kinds of cherry pastry were part of our vacation. Because of COVID-19, we did not veer out much, other than for a "must-have" burger at the Brown Bear in Shelby and a fantastic afternoon of kayaking on the Pere Marquette River.
Overall a beautiful home...but behind a large bluff which makes the home rather dark inside. The stairs to the beach are intense even for an athletic person. When we arrived we were a bit disappointed at the cleanliness in particular the refrigerator and the carpeting. Quite a few things not working well and the master shower clogged and had standing water.
Kitchen fairly well equipped but had moldy odor from behind the sink. No TV in main area and the internet was not adequate going in and out. Overall a nice place but not really worth the high rates.
Very nice property with everything you could want. Not too far from Shelby and silver lake. A bit farther from Ludington than I thought though, about a 35 minute drive each way
The house was beautiful and very comfortable. There was everything we needed; kitchen with any utensil you could need, towels, lots of room, great deck, great stereo system, and beautiful wooded setting.
The stairs to the beach intimidated me the first day but they weren't a problem. I'm 65, have asthma, and had double knee replacement surgery ten months ago and once I got over my fear of the stairs, I negotiated them easily. The beach is perfect! Quiet, few people, and beautiful sunsets.
There is a LOT to do in the area. I highly recommend the fish boil at Cherry Point Market, the dunes were fun, and we really enjoyed wine tasting and live music at Fox Barn.
This is a great place to stay. We hope to return many years to come.
The property was an adventure. You will definitely keep fit climbing the very nice stair case to and from the great beach. A beach fire was a terrific experience. The lake was so clean, clear and beautiful. The house was spacious and enjoyed the hot tub and CD speaker in every room music system. The area is so much fun - we enjoyed the Sand Dune Ride, Lewis Petting Farm and the Country Dairy. We certainly left this area with many fond memories!
We spent a week in this lovely home with our 3 kids and their spouses. It was wonderful. The home was spotless and plenty of linens were provided. There are 4 private bedrooms and a huge great room that allowed plenty of space for everyone to relax, visit and read or play games after golfing and beaching. Each couple was assigned a night to prepare dinner and the kitchen was stocked with every pot, pan and utensil that was needed! The deck provided a beautiful, secluded place for morning coffee and both the jacuzzi and gas grilled worked great. There are quite a few steps up and down stairs to the beach, which was not a problem for us, but could be an issue for young children or the elderly. The beach was lovely and secluded and we rarely even saw another person! This was the perfect place for our week at Lake Michigan.
We rented this property in mid August and it did not disappoint. Sandra the hostess met us at the house and let us in 2 hours early! Yea Sandra! She was very nice and gave a thorough explanation of all the amenities. I've read lots of the reviews on here, yes there were a lot of steps but not so many that it took away from the experience. Actually because the house sits on the other side a dune you will find no wind coming through. Each night we were able to barbaque and sit in the hot tub, the wifi was acceptable, not lighting fast but not super slow either. What I liked about this property is you really don't need to bring linens or towels or any cooking utensils at all, they have absolutely everything. There is even a grab bag of beach toys in the box up by the gazebo for the kids to use. I would recommend buying campfire wood before you come and taking a few pieces with you each time you go to the beach, by night fall you should have enough wood down there to make a fire. I guess the only thing negative would be that our guests our stayed upstairs said it was hot and I think might needs to be addressed. Great experience overall! Highly recommended!
Our hostess Sandra, was delightful. She met us at check in and had information on everything we needed to know for our stay at this lovely beach house. We were a family of 8 adults and 2 children (5 & 2). There was so much to do, between the beach, hot tub and area attractions, we were never at a loss for activities or just relaxing. Hopefully, if our schedules permit we will be back next summer! Only one observation to pass along and this has nothing to do with the owner: if you are renting this lovely home please be respectful of the beach. I spent several hours filling a trash bag with popped balloons, ribbons, juice boxes, straws, cigarette butts, firework debris and other various pieces of trash that do not belong on our beautiful shoreline.
We just celebrated our 9th annual High School BFF Girls reunion at this house. It was the perfect get away for this picky group of women. We bought all of our provisons in Ludington which was a quick 30 minutes away, any store you would need is at this exit.
We did not leave the house again for 3 days! We enjoyed the kitchen for all of our gourmet meals, deck for chatting and games. Gazebo for Sunsets and Beach for our daily Yoga sessions. We had a great walk to the Little Sable Lighthouse, the beach is very private as is the house. The surround sound was wonderful and the selection of CD's already there were very versatile.
Did I mention the Cherry Market 5 minutes away with great Cherry products and a labyrinth amongst a field of lavender...Very Cool!
The steps were very manageable and well worth the view. It was a fabulous weekend and we all agreed we finally found a home after looking for 9 years!!!
