BOOKING NOTES: The price listed is the nightly rate for the minimum six night stay, less standard discounts for longer stays. Lower discounted rates are available for multi-week or monthly stays. A fully appointed and tastefully decorated two bedroom apartment just steps from the Piazza della Republica in the central historic district (Centro Storico) of Cortona. The apartment, also known as Palazzo Leone for the owner's Italian heritage, is located in a fully renovated historic building about 150 meters from the main square. Access is at street level where you enter a foyer through a magnificent and grand wooden door. On the left side of the foyer is a small area with an elliptical trainer overlooking the terrace. From the foyer there is one step up to the living and dining area where you are greeted by Murano glass chandeliers, an arched wall of glass that looks onto the terrace, and a large mural painted by a local artist depicting iconic buildings around the main square. The living room is comfortably appointed with a sectional sleep sofa, a reclining lounge chair, and a working fireplace.
The dining area has an antique table with upholstered seating for six. Adjacent to the dining area is a modern open kitchen with high-end appliances, European cabinetry, and stainless steel countertops. The kitchen has a stylish u-shaped peninsula featuring a six burner gas stove and under-counter appliances including an oven, double refrigerator, separate freezer, dishwasher, plus a washer and dryer. The cabinets are fully stocked with dishware, flatware, glassware, pots and pans plus countertop appliances and coffee makers. The kitchen is ideal for those that want to prepare gourmet meals, entertain friends, or those that want to bring in a local chef for an evening of cooking.
In addition to the open concept living, dining and kitchen area the first floor also has the master bedroom with a spacious en suite bathroom. The master bedroom is appointed with a closet, two dressers, a queen bed, nightstands and a wall-mounted flat screen TV. The bathroom has a porcelain sink surrounded by European style cabinets, a bidet, a commode, and a walk-in tiled shower.
The second bedroom is located above the living room and kitchen in a spacious loft overlooking the first floor with two full sized beds, a closet, a dresser, and a sitting area with a TV. For privacy there is a large curtain that can be closed across the entire space along with a door at the entrance below. The loft is accessed by a small stairwell to the right of the kitchen adjacent to the second bath. The stairs are on the steep side so the wall is lined with handrails for assistance. The loft space also has a low ceiling with large wood beams that require taller people to duck when entering and exiting. Although the loft space is well suited for one or two adults it is also ideal for children. The second bath by the loft staircase is smaller than the master bath but has similar amenities including a tiled shower, sink, bidet and commode.
While the combination of modern and classic indoor space and the artistry throughout are trademarks of this renovated historic apartment, the outdoor space is truly the most unique element of Palazzo Leone. When you exit the living room through the large sliding glass door you will find yourself on the spacious terrace or "giardino" that is surrounded by manicured hedges and the neighboring historic buildings. With almost 100 square meters of outdoor space in the Centro Storico, the terrace is appointed with outdoor lighting, cushioned patio seating sheltered by a large umbrella, and an outdoor dining table for six. There is also a small stone fireplace/grill that can be fired by coal or wood. Whether you are sitting in the shade of the umbrella "Under The Tuscan Sun" or enjoying the starlit sky on a cool evening, the Palazzo Leone terrace is the ideal place to relax and recharge during your stay in Cortona.
