Extremely relaxing and convenient to everything
David met the us and was very informative and gracious. The home has everything you would want. We went to Boothbay Harbor and went whale watching one day and took the ferry to Monhegan island on another. Both great. Went to the botanical gardens in Boothbay on David’s suggestion. Fantastic! Ate at Primos, Van Loyds Cafe, Dramariscotti’s River Cafe, Ports of Italy, and Shaw’s. All great. Public
House not so much. Overall great area, house, and host.
So pleased these folks experienced many of the great diversified "adventures" of our mid coast area of Maine! It was a pleasure having them enjoy Beckoning Bay Cottage too.
Clean cottage with beautiful views of Great Salt Bay
Peaceful setting with great views. Close to restaurants and activities. David was a great host!
Pleased to agree with first two points of this review and happy to accept the third!
Great house and view
Mid-Coast Maine Beauty!
We recently stayed at Beckoning Bay Cottage to celebrate our 40th anniversary. What initially attracted us was the picture of the sunroom at the back of the house which almost looked too good to be true! Well, the truth be known, it's actually even better than the pictures show and an amazing place to relax and refresh before and after a day of exploring the Mid-Coast area. The cottage was immaculately clean and provided anything and everything we could have wanted or needed.
The location of the cottage was also great - enabling us to easily travel from Freeport to Camden and visit all the quaint, little towns like Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Boothbay, and New Harbor in between. (Don't let the line at Red's Eats discourage you - just do it for the best lobster rolls in the world!) Mostly, though, when we think of location, we think of just enjoying the sunroom and back yard, complete with an outside patio (where we ate breakfast each morning), fire pit, and boat dock on the lake.
David was a wonderful host, meeting us at the cottage when we arrived to show us around and making himself available for any questions we might have. When we realized that we had left a bag at the front door, he even graciously mailed it to us right away - and followed up!
Don't hesitate to stay at this "hidden gem" of a home. We hope it will "beckon" us back many times in the future!
Wow!!! It is certainly appreciated when guests are so enthusiastic about their stay at our Cottage and visit to our mid-coast region of Maine... thanks and do come back!
Ideal Spot for a Fall Family Getaway
We had a great trip to Beckoning Bay over the Columbus Day weekend. Thank you for your hospitality and thoughtful gift basket David!
The cottage's enclosed porch and boat access were our favorite features. We enjoyed the view of the moon on the lake at night while playing board games and reading, and we watched the beautiful sunrise from the breakfast table each morning. With 3 kayaks and a canoe at the dock, we could all explore the lake together.
The cottage had all of the modern conveniences. The kitchen was well-equipped and two bathrooms were a luxury for an aunt traveling with her sister's family of 4.
Though it rained for 1/2 of the weekend, there was plenty to see and do in the nearby towns of coastal ME. Newcastle was an ideal location for day tripping to Portland, Freeport, Boothbay and Rockland...and the pumpkin festival in Damariscotta was a hit with the kids.
Thanks again David!
Most pleased you enjoyed the Cottage, our towns, and this region of Maine and you used the Kayaks on Great Salt Bay. Sorry about the rain!
Perfect house on the Salt Bay.
The house was absolutely immaculate. Layout was perfect and David greeted us when we arrived. Thank you. It was a pleasure and it worked perfectly for our needs. We will be back.
Thanks! Always pleased to read such comments, especially when the Cottage met needs and expectations. We look forward to your return...
