We loved our stay at the Avondale House! This house was so homey. Our favorite parts were backyard river access for fishing, the screened in porch, and the fire pit. There was plenty of space for our family and beautiful views!
Stay was nice and peaceful. Little difficult to get to but when you want quiet thatâs what it takes đ. Could have been a little cleaner-trash cans in house, dust, and outdoor porches. No cleaning supplies or trash can liners. Washer and dryer worked great! We were there two weeks. Plenty of kitchen dishes, pans and utensils!
Hidden gem along the White River. Sip your coffee while viewing the rolling river and beautiful cliffs. The house is well maintained, plenty of amenities, and perfectly set up for an escape from everyday life! Spotty cell phone coverage, but that is a minimal issue when you are trying to relax and enjoy time away.
My family enjoyed this opportunity to get away from everything. The location is secluded and peaceful. The river is beautiful but not terribly accessible as the bank is steep and muddy and the current is swift but we did wade a bit in the morning when the water was low. We enjoyed watching a brilliant meteor shower from the front yard with very little light pollution.
We really enjoyed our time here! Everything was super clean and beautifully decorated -- exactly how it was pictured. We had three kids with us (8, 5 and 2) and they loved hanging out in the front and back yard. The train (across the river) went by three different times and my 2 year old loved it! It was not loud and only happened during the day. The owners were super responsive to any questions we may have had. Definitely recommend.
Firewood wasn't provided until the last day of our 4-day stay. River was not accessible (very steep, unterraced, and muddy descent to get to the water and the "dock" has 3 inches of mud on it. The back porch/patio area was filthy and the grill was rusted out and had a rodent family living in it. The beds were good, very comfortable, and the kitchen was well-appointed. The overall living space was fine but it obviously hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival. Definitely not a location or property I would recommend to anyone.
My wife and I stayed at the Avondale House in early April when the total solar eclipse occurred. It was the perfect place to stay for that event. During the entire week, we saw no one other than a few boaters on the river. If peace and solitude matter to you, then this is the place.
Outside the house, large trees surround the yard leading down to the river. The river, only a short walk away from the back porch, can be enjoyed from the deck on the high bank, or it can be seen from the comfort of the porch or living room.
The house is comfortable with two full baths and a large, well equipped kitchen. It is tastefully decorated with antique furniture and art.
The area surrounding Mountain View is quite scenic, with lightly traveled roads leading to small towns and local amenities.
For us, this vacation spot was the perfect choice.
We had a wonderful stay! The cabin is very well suited for a family of 4 or 6 if rooms are shared. There are 4 of us.
I do suggest to the owner to provide hand towels instead of paper towels in the bathrooms and towel racks for hanging bath towels.
Also, for a family of 4, more towels are needed as there aren't hooks to hang and reuse towels after one use.
At least 2-4 more rolls of toilet paper would have prevented a purchase even though the listing mentions about a start of tissue paper. This is a very nice rental, and none of these things should keep someone from renting though.
We truly enjoyed our stay, and plan to return. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful homes we have rented in Arkansas.
The directions to the house were spot on. Shara pinged the directions to me, as well. Perfect. The house is about 25 minutes away from the Ozark Folk Center. The drive in is beautiful. We happened to be there for the best leaf peeping/fall colors. Saw deer in the surrounding fields. I am a sucker for great decor and Avondale was above and beyond my expectations. The kitchen is spacious. Nice linens, bedding, comfortable pillows to choose from. There IS wifi.
It just took unplugging and plugging in the router to get a connection. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. So many things have been considered when putting this rental together. Thank you! My favorite spot in the house was the sofa. I loved sitting there, watching the river float by. Just beautiful! I look forward to more stays in the future!
Overall, a pleasant, quiet, relaxing stay with excellent view of cliffs and the White River. The last few miles of road getting to the property are gravel but are very well maintained. The property itself is starting to age on the exterior; it could use some sprucing up, but is overall in fair condition. The interior is nicely furnished and accommodating. Antique furnishings gave it a very homely feel for us. A few downsides, one of toilets had not been cleaned and both the shower and tub could have been cleaned better and the shower liners definitely cleaned/replaced. Television remotes were grungy feeling and cleaned. The large rug downstairs had a few dark stains. The bath towels were sparingly provided and small. Plenty of Upsides though: Pets are welcome! The master bed upstairs was very comfortable. Hot water was plentiful for the 2 of us, the AC worked great (Almost too well for me) but the wife loves it cold so she was happy. Appliances used: washer/dryer, stove, microwave, coffee pot, and dishwasher all worked. Kitchen essentials are all there, select few spices so bring your own, & be sure to bring own coffee/sugar for coffee pot. No major issues encountered during our stay. We had to bring our little mini dachshund dog last minute. I informed the host who responded very quickly confirming that was ok and no extra fees incurred. Host responded quickly to any questions. Getting to the property was straight-forward. I feel it was a fair value for the money.
We arrived on Thursday and found that there was no firewood provided like the description on the property said so I contacted the property management and Brant replied that there should be a stack there, he said he would contact the maintenance crew to get some delivered. Friday I contacted Brant again because we still had no firewood and he said he was trying to get some delivered that day and he would keep me posted and never heard from him again. Saturday morning we had to start searching to see if we could buy some firewood from someone. We left Monday morning and still never received the firewood.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cabin. Kayaking in the river. We visited the cavern, waterfall and the springs in the park. We had a wonderful time. Planning another trip there soon
Great private and quiet location on the white river.
My son and I made this our base camp while exploring the area. The house was great. More than enough room for the two of us. I wish I knew how to cook because the kitchen was very nice. Instead we went out to eat either in Mountain View or at Angler's in Allison. The pictures don't do justice to the view. If you go here, make sure to go out in the front yard at night to watch for shooting stars.
We loved staying here! The cabin was beautifully decorated. The view is impeccable. Waking up in the master to a gorgeous view of the lake, only to walk down the stairs and have the same gorgeous view across the back of the house. The deck was peaceful. We could not have enjoyed our stay anymore than we did. Communication with the owner was fast. We will
Most definitely be back!
Beautiful secluded property with everything you may need. My husband and I stayed for three days and had zero issues with the property. The fishing was tough just because of all the beautiful trees and steep bank, but the view was gorgeous. The screened in porch was nice on the rainy days, and the grill has propane hooked up already so no need to bring your charcoal. We had a lovely time.
