We enjoyed our stay here with a party of seven, including our daughters and grandkids as we visited in family in nearby Clifton Forge. We all were comfortable in this space. Thank you for a great visit!
Very clean and tidy. Property was just as presented in photos. I used this stay for overflow for family visiting from out of town for the Holidays and it was perfect.
The farmhouse was perfect for our mini vaca. Richard and Robin were so friendly and accommodating. Loved hearing stories about the history of the farmhouse and surrounding land. The river/rock slides and safari were so much fun. Definitely will be back
Perfect location for a getaway in beautiful countryside
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Gala Farmhouse. While the house is old, the renovations done have made it an inviting and comfortable place to stay for a larger group. With the easy river access and and many things to do in the surrounding area, we would love to come back for a longer stay. My two year old son even got a tractor ride from Mr. Thompson and I loved hearing the history of their farm and the area. What a wonderful time!
Our family had a wonderful time at the farm house! We were looking for a place to stay together, as a family, so we could go to the Va Tech football game in Blacksburg on Saturday. We chose wisely! The farmhouse was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our time around the big kitchen table together, as well as time down by the creek and river. What an absolutely beautiful setting! Had a very nice encounter with Mr. Thompson, in passing. He was very kind and hospitable.
Thereâs a nearby gas station and convenience store for last minute items, and we were not too far away from town for groceries or a nice meal at Jack Masonâs Tavern.
We would definitely recommend this home to anyone, and we hope to return sometime in the future.
This was the perfect escape for a getaway with family. We hiked, explored the river, had a bonfire with sâmores, and got to unplug with family and friends. Thank you!
Stayed for a long weekend with friends, the house had everything we needed and was not too far of a drive from Roanoke. The house was clean, tidy, and was true to how it was described. Overall we had a great time! I wish, though, that there was more information about it being an active, working farm, as we heard machines running early in the morning, but it did not cause any issues whatsoever!
Gala Farmhouse is a gem. Perfect for a family and friends getaway. Modern amenities in a charmingly preserved farmhouse. Great kitchen for cooking! Comfortable beds. Very clean. Good spot for hiking, fishing, river activities. Hope to visit again!
My friends and i enjoyed a weekend of beauty and quiet. We chatted and enjoyed being in the 1880's farmhouse. The area is very rural, so we had to drive a bit to buy a couple of groceries, but we enjoyed the solitude. Thanks Robin and Richard!
Really enjoyed our stay here. First off the house is old and that shows. Probably could use a few updates to the furnishings and accessories. But, with that said its hard to say anything bad because that brings the charm out in the place. Loved the covered porch and the river. Sadly fishing was terrible this weekend. It happens. Took a visit to Devil's Backbone and also visited local fair and some waterfalls. Everyone enjoyed.
House is good but old and slanted. Feels like you are on a boat sometimes especially in the kitchen. But location makes up for it all. No dishwasher is bummer. River is very nice.
Wonder place for hiking and kayaking. Family time to slow down and enjoy the little things. Farmhouse had a lot of cool history. Owner have fun savanger hut, was fun for the family.
The property was very clean and well equipped. There is a convenience store and gas station a 2 minute walk from the house, For take-out and groceries. Due to the holiday weekend there was a lot of activity with campers and kayakers. We normally prefer a more secluded location, but overall it was an enjoyable stay.
We had a wonderful and relaxing vacation at this location. Lots of history! A short walk to the James River for fishing and rock finding. Richard and Robin are amazing and go out of their way to make you at home! We will definitely plan to come back.
Very cute property with plenty of room to spread out for a family. Land is beautiful and the walk to the river was so peaceful. We would definitely like to visit again when the weather is warmer.
The Gala Farmhouse was inviting and comfortable. Very clean and filled with everything we needed. Thanks to Robin and Richard for their kind hospitality.
Great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city

Richard was born and raised on this farm. I moved to the farm when we married in 1985. We have raised three children and are now enjoying our first grandchild. This farm has transitioned from raising beef cattle to growing seed corn to becoming a dairy farm. Three generations have been supported by the farm and now it's time to travel a different road in our life journey. We have recently partnered to open a campground on our property and have renovated the original farmhouse for a vacation rental. Our family has enjoyed vacation rentals in the past and have always enjoyed the convenience of "almost like home" vacation stays, so we have decided to open our property to share likewise. We are very blessed to own a sliver of God's Country and hope to have the opportunity to share that blessing with you.
We have been told that a stay at our farmhouse is like stepping back in time and taking a few conveniences with you. We have tried to maintain the original woodwork whenever possible, including the original doorbell on the front of the house. The flooring in the upstairs bedrooms were stripped of layers of vinyl flooring to leave the original wood, which we have painted. Kitchen appliances have been updated as well as the AC/heat pump. We have added televisions in every bedroom, but please do not let the TVs keep you from enjoying the beautiful outside. Screened porches allow you to enjoy the nighttime sounds and clean air late into the night. Listen for the owls, whip-o-wills, and yes, the occasional coyote. And of course the train, which passes through the farm. You just can't help but relax, sip slowly, and drink in the countryside.
