Serenity, Waterfront Mountain Retreat

Enjoy Serenity on Craig, a private waterfront mountain retreat surrounded by views of the Alleghany Mountains. You cannot beat these views! The clear water of Craig's Creek beckons guests to kayak, tube, fish and swim in its waters. Bring your dog to enjoy it all! This new cottage (sister to popular Cottage on Craig - VRBO 335245) is outfitted with everything you need for your getaway into nature. It is the perfect place to be active and explore (includes a canoe, kayaks, tubes but bring your own fishing pole) or thoroughly relax. Firewood is provided for your primitive outdoor firepit which is ready for s'mores and more. View the night sky free of light pollution. The large patio overlooks the natural beauty of the water and mountains around you. It's the perfect spot for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Serenity on Craig is peaceful and your place to recharge. Soon see why we have so many return guests to Craig's Creek from the local area and beyond. Visitors love exploring the hiking trails in the forests and take in the natural beauty surrounding this mountain retreat.
The open, fully furnished kitchen, spacious dining room table(seats 10) and comfortable great room have stunning floor to ceiling views, as well as a large stone fireplace with gas logs.
The master bedroom, with its perfect view of Craig's Creek, features a king bed with a full bathroom. The queen bedroom also offers beautiful views and shares a full bath with the bunkbeds bedroom. Books, games and puzzles are available.
Satellite tv, landline phone and free wifi are provided but no cell service.
Enjoy hiking on the property or venture further to the nearby State and National Forest trails. Roaring Run(4 1/2 miles away), Hoop Hole Trail (about 2 miles away) and the Greenbrier River Trail (rated in the top ten hiking trails by Backpacking Magazine) are nearby. Vineyards (Blue Ridge and Virginia Mountain Vineyard), breweries (Jack Mason's Pub), and a great little diner (Maw and Paws) are nearby.
Cook a meal in the beautiful kitchen, on the charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal), gas grill (propane is provided) or over the open pit with the oak provided. Bring your water shoes due to the rocky creek bed. We provide paper products and detergents.
Whether you are here for a romantic getaway or a family get-together, you will want to stay at Serenity on Craig and return often.

Beautiful location. Very clean and comfortable. Hosts were very quick to respond to questions and needs before and during our stay. Kitchen is well equipped for most cooking needs. We used the gas and charcoal grills, both are well maintained. Perfect for a quiet getaway away from it all.

Wonderful getaway

The place was excellent for staying on Craig creek right in the middle of being able to drive 20-30 minutes to put in at 4 tributaries to the James. Would definitely recommend this for anglers coming to fish around the area or couples looking for a peaceful getaway for a weekend.

Just As Serene As You'd Expect

Our second family vacation at Serenity was as wonderful, relaxing and fun as the first. Mitch and Bobbie's place is superbly appointed and extra comfy. Views of the creek from the large sliding doors facing south benefit from mature forests and sunny exposure. We did a lot of cooking, reading, visiting and fishing, and good hiking is just a few minutes away. We love this spot!

The BEST Mountain Getaway!

We spent a long weekend at the property for a bird hunt with Wes Hodges and to enjoy all the area has to offer. The hosts were extremely helpful and communicative, but even more, the house was amazing! The property is nestled in the mountains and right alongside Craig’s Creek. The house and property looked brand new - super clean and stocked with anything you could need. The property, amenities, location, and hosts make this the perfect getaway! We’ll definitely be back!

Family vacation

We had the best time at Serenity. The house and property are gorgeous. We used the tubes, kayaks and canoe and we hiked some of the local spots. We had a fire every night. The house was stocked with everything we needed. Mitch and Bobbie were gracious hosts. We had a power outage our second night there and they called it in for us and had provided candles at the house for those just in case moments. It was a relaxing get away. We would definitely stay again.

better than expected

house is well-built and has every amenity you could think of. location on the creek is perfect. the water is wade-able but also easy in-out for canoe and kayaks. fishing is excellent, especially downstream and around the bend from the house. the only drawback is that we only had four days to stay. next time we will arrange a longer stay. thank you, mitch & bobbie.

AWESOME river getaway! Can't wait to go back!

This is our first time at this specific cabin but our second time on the property as we stayed in the other cabin in October. We had such an awesome time and couldn't wait to see the new cabin. We brought a much bigger crew of people and used both cabins (cottage and cabin). We can't say enough good things about Bobbie and Mitch and the property they have. Being right on the river makes it so easy to float and kayak, hike down the road at the National Forest, set up hammocks, and simply relax without any outside world distractions. This is the best place to turn off and turn up! We can't wait to come back every year. Thanks Bobbie and Mitch!

Wonderful stay!

Mitch and Bobbie thought of everything from s'mores supplies to paper products to cooking supplies to a cute wood wagon so we could bring more wood to the fire pit! We did everything at this cabin. We spent everyday in the creek. The water is crystal clear. If you're kayaking and fishing you can literally see the fish chasing your bait! We used the inner tubes, kayaks, canoe, and fire pit. We grilled more meals over the open fire even though they provided a gas and charcoal grill. Even though we were in the woods we hardly used bug spray. We made one run to the grocery store the first day and cooked our meals the rest of our stay. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay and were truly able to unplug!

True Serenity on the creek

Thank you Mitch and Bobbie for sharing your beautiful home with us! The house was spatious, clean and full of extra amenities that were so thoughtful (creek towels, extra blankets, water guns for the kids, smores, firewood, games, puzzles, tubes, kayaks, canoes!) The creek is a gem - so private and secluded - exactly what we were looking for. We found several deep swimming holes down the creek where we could float and paddle comfortably. We spent most of our time enjoying the crystal clear water from the pebble beach across the creek and our older boys caught lots of fish in the canoe. The hot tub was very nice and clean - one of the nicer hot tubs we have used at a VRBO. The outdoor shower was also really cool! Tons of patio seating and amazing fire pit We went to Roaring Run Falls and it did not disappoint-! This is only 10 minutes away and worth it. We went in July and the kids swam and played on the rock water slides for hours. Tip for the creek - bring water shoes with a good sole!

The Best

Mitch and Bobby are the best. We stay here a few times a year because it us the oerfect place to get away with a small grouo of friends. Beautiful, private, and very well equipped. The creek is so peaceful, and the house is very comfortable! We love it.

Fantastic property, beautiful views

We loved our winter getaway here! We had 6 adults and did a lot of cooking and found the kitchen to be well stocked. The property was very clean and organized, and communication with the hosts was excellent. We loved the hot tub overlooking the creek with a view of the mountains. We can't wait to go back in warmer weather!

Such a BEAUTIFUL Place

We absolutely LOVED the home and the view! There were 8 of us in the family spending Thanksgiving together and we had an amazing time and plenty of dpace along with everything we needed. The hot tub was a huge favorite! We even got to see some otters playinhplaying in the stream!

Mitch and Bobbie are retired educators that have been enjoying Craig's Creek all of their lives. They believe it is more important than ever to have a place and time for relaxation and the joy that nature gives us.
They have been renting Cottage on Craig (the sister property) for more than a decade and decided to build Serenity on Craig to accommodate their growing family as well as the needs and desires of their guests.
