Located just 3 km from the historic hilltop town of Cortona and 17 km from Tuscany's largest lake, Lago di Trasimeno, Casa Dardano is a traditional, character-filled country home. Its prime location makes it perfect for both relaxation and exploring the best of Tuscany and Umbria.

Unlike most rural Tuscan villas, you can comfortably stay here without needing a car.

Within a short walk of the house you will find:

• Two excellent local restaurants
• A well stocked mini market selling fresh bread, local produce, wine and everyday essentials
• Quiet village surroundings with safe walking routes

For guests arriving by train, or those who prefer not to drive, Camucia is just a 30 minute walk or 7 minute drive away. Camucia offers supermarkets, cafés, shops and a mainline train station with direct connections to Florence, Rome and beyond.

Very few countryside homes offer this balance of rural charm and accessibility. Casa Dardano does.

The House

Casa Dardano seamlessly blends rustic charm with modern comforts. The property is accessed via a set of stone steps, where you’ll also find a charming wisteria-covered terrace with a table and chairs — the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee.

First Floor: A farmhouse kitchen and dining-living space with stone floors, huge fireplace and a medieval "spy hole."

Second Floor:

This level includes a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, and a bathroom with a shower. Moving through the house you will reach a charming two-level tower, featuring a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and an upper-level double bedroom accessed via open stairs (mezzanine style).

Outdoor Living

The property features a lush garden with a vine-covered pergola for shaded dining, a neatly mowed meadow with stunning countryside views, and a fully fenced private pool (3’9” deep) for peace of mind. Additional amenities include a barbecue, outdoor kitchen, table football, and parking.

Cortona: Just a 5-10 minute drive (or a scenic 40-minute walk), Cortona is famed for its role in Under the Tuscan Sun. Beautiful, serene and private surroundings with a lovely big pool. The house was rustic in style and a little dark inside but had everything we needed. As others have stated, Carla and Paolo were very attentive and relaxed hosts who looked after us very well - good advice on restaurants and responsive with questions.

Ideal starting point for discovery of Tuscany

Wonderful location (view, quietness, garden & pool, geographically) with extremely friendly management. Thank you Carla and Paolo. It was very hot; would suggest ceiling fans.

Cortona villa

Casa Dardano was wonderful…while the house is super old (and has lots of history), it was very comfortable. While the house was fine, it was the owners, Paulo and Carla, that made our stay very special and memorable! Both were so warm and welcoming it felt like we had two new and special friends. Between providing restaurant recommendations (and helping with reservations), giving directions, introducing us to the local folks at the market, setting up wine tastings, etc. They are very special people and hope to stay in touch. The only potential negative was the lack of a TV (the ad specifies one) not a problem for my wife and I but could be an issue if you bring kids.

Lovely location . Quiet valley which was joy to look out over every day. Proximity to Cortona matvellous- 5 minute drive got you there and the town is beautiful Lots of good food to be had and the museums and churches etc great to explore. The local town of Camucia had decent supermarket and bars and the village a shop and resturant the latter a brief stroll away .Pool really good for a daily set of lengths Down sides- it does not sleep 8 and it does not have 4 bedrooms as one would interpret that as seperate rooms in that the master bedroom has a mezzanine floor above with a double bed. Fine for children and parents in the same room but not suitable for 2 adult couples. Bathroom en suite to this good but the facilities on the lower floor serving two bedrooms so up to 4 people were a bit basic- rather cramped shower and toilet and the washing machine all together. All got a bit wet underfootWe used the lower floor bedroom and saved the master bedroom asa guest room for friends who visited in the month we were there and it was fine but two families there might struggle a bit with thisUtterly charming hosts who brought us home made dishes which were really good. The photos are a bit misleading as the wooden doors look like the doors to rooms on the ground floor. They don't and only access to the villa is via stone steps We had a lovely month but we did have the luxury of never needing more than two occupied bedrooms at any time

We’re so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the peaceful location, the beautiful views, and the easy access to Cortona and the surrounding area. It’s also lovely to know you appreciated the pool and the warm hospitality from the owners. We’d just like to clarify for future guests that the villa is advertised as accommodating 6 adults and 2 children, not 8 adults, due to the bedroom layout. There are 4 bedrooms in total but one is a sort of mezzanine. The mezzanine bedroom is clearly described in the listing and is ideal for families, as the mezzanine area is high and spacious but open to the main bedroom below. As noted, the two lower-floor bedrooms share one bathroom, while the master bedroom and mezzanine area share another. Many families and groups have found this setup very comfortable. We’re delighted you had a lovely month overall.

Peaceful Villa

This beautiful villa was perfect for the two couples who stayed there for a week. There is a market and restaurant within walking distance which are both lovely. Cortona is a short drive away as well as many other destinations within an hour. The owners are very nice and accommodating. We did not use the pool since it was October, but it looked well kept as did most of the outside as well as the inside. There are stairs to get in the villa and to get to two of the bedrooms. We experienced great weather so we could be outside. Might be a little cramped if there were more than 4 people and you had to be inside.

Perfect Tuscan Retreat

This property, just outside the beautiful hill town of Cortona, is just what we imagined what Tuscany would be like. The house is set at the end of a small lane just a 5 minute drive outside the town walls, in the lovely green lands of the surrounding countryside. The view from the house is peaceful and beautiful; the house is charming and has been thoughtfully remodeled to keep both it’s ancient allure (it was most likely established in the 1100s!) and provides everything a modern house requires. The owners, Carla and Paolo, could not be more helpful or gracious. We simply loved it there. Walk 5 minutes to a wonderful restaurant, a little farther to a great store for wine and cheese and staples. It is just a few minutes away from the train station and a short drive to many other celebrated hill towns. At the end of the day, relax under the 200 year old vine, in the sun drenched courtyard, sip your favorite local Brunello or Nobile, and munch on bruschetta and truffle cheese. Live the dream of “Under the Tuscan Sun” set just a mile away. Its all here. We can’t wait to return.

Lovely villa

Lovely villa and pool, lots of outside space . Well equipped kitchen. Owners very helpful and kind . A very generous 3km to Cortona, too far and hilly to walk to. Beautiful area. We had a lovely time .

Indeed one of the benefits of this house are the owners, who are very generous and always on hand to help, I have passed on your compliments. Another benefit of the house is that it sits on it's own and feels very private whilst also being nearby Cortona which is 3KM away. There is a bus that takes you from near the house into Cortona which only takes 30 minutes, or instead it takes 45 minutes to walk or 5-10 minutes to drive into the centre. The house is excellently situated to enjoy the countryside whilst also being near major attractions such as Cortona and Lago di Trasimeno 15-20 minutes away. The Real Tuscany

The historic villa is in the classic Tuscany. We had such a great time that we extended our holiday. Paolo was a friendly and attentive host who gave us excellent information about Cortona and its surroundings, with the great value restaurants and shops, and quirky historic places to visit. The house is very comfortable and interesting. The late summer weather was superb. We have already decided to return in 2020!
