Nice apartment in Sarlat

Great location overlooking a square. Good beds, quiet, everything within an easy walk. Good kitchen. Very nice and helpful host.

Magical Stay in Sarlat

How wonderful to stay in the heart of this beautiful medieval town, hearing the splashing fountain outside our window, walking the cobblestone streets, shopping at the Wednesday marché, enjoying our daily afternoon pause in the town center while watching locals and tourists meander by, and being so close to other marvels -- prehistoric art, Rocamadour, and gorgeous countryside. A pleasure from start to finish.

Pleasant Apartment with One (Big) Disappointment

First the positive: the apartment was accurately described, with one exception (see below). It was nicely furnished and decorated, it was conveniently located in a pleasant square, and it was clean inside. The disappointment involved the patio outside the master bedroom. Access to a pleasant outdoor area where one can eat meals and relax is an essential element for us when we look for a place to stay. The patio was unusable. We sat there once to read a little but didn’t stay long. The patio floor—and even table—were covered with bird droppings and bits of moss and other debris from the surrounding roof. The amount increased as our week went on. It even smelled unpleasant and felt unhealthy to spend time there. I occasionally went there to open or shut the shutter in the smaller bedroom and had to pick my way to avoid stepping on debris and tracking it inside the apartment. We mentioned this problem to the manager, who indicated that it is an ongoing issue. The patio gets cleaned, but the birds come back and soil the area again. Some longer-term solution is needed. But because of this, we would not return.

Beautiful spacious apartment in the heart of Sarlat

This spacious and comfortable apartment was our 'home-away-from-home' for 7 days in late September. The apartment is comfortably furnished and nicely decorated, which made it truly feel like home after a busy day in Sarlat or traveling to various attractions in the Dordogne region. We like to cook while on vacation and the amenities in the kitchen were very welcome. The location is wonderful. The apartment is located in a quiet courtyard just steps from the medieval city center. This made it easy to enjoy the old town, visit the large Saturday and Wednesday markets, and quickly get back to the apartment for lunch or rest. The access to the apartment is just inside the restricted-traffic zone so luggage drop off and pickup was very convenient. Free parking just a few blocks away made day trips very easy to do. The owners were extremely helpful and responsive. They quickly answered questions that we had and provided an extensive list of suggested itineraries prior to our trip to help our planning. Truly an excellent experience in a lovely apartment in a lovely city!

September Sarlat

The apartment was very much as depicted in the photos - an interesting old building with quirky features in the historic old town. We enjoyed the upmarket buskers in the Cour des Fontaines on jours de marchė, and the mostly French voices coming from the cafes below the window. For a couple the flat was ideal, it might be a bit squashed for two couples though good for a family too. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen reasonably well-equipped, the decor interesting with good and attractive lighting - important for those of us not in the first flush of youth! The only thing we missed was the red sofa and chairs shown in the photos - I know grey is all the rage of late but it’s not my favourite and perhaps that photo needs updating. Overall we would absolutely recommend Coeur de Sarlat.

Charm in the center of everything

Spent a week here and loved the flat. Beautiful old apartment oozes charm but has all modern amenities. Comfortable beds. Great shower. Fully stocked kitchen. Great location in the center of Sarlat. Only negative would be some noise. With windows open you will hear some street noise. A band played late one night in the courtyard and we watched from the window. If you are early to bed this may not be the best choice. We, however, loved it. Enjoyed eating our meals in the enclosed private patio. Then pop downstairs for a gelato out the front door. Fantastic stay.

OUR STORY
Our story has always been one of travel. Christopher met Sophie one dark distant night at Cairo Airport – Sophie, a relaxed outgoing backpacker from country Australia and Chris a businessman from London. We have always loved France (who doesn't!) and since being in the first language class in her little country high school, Sophie has always kept studying French. We are now settled with three kids in beautiful Kangaroo Valley (yes - truly!) in rural Australia where we own and manage Australian Tourism Award winning self-contained accommodation Crystal Creek Meadows - so we know a little about what makes a really great holiday experience. Chris has just finished his PhD and is a cutting-edge expert in sustainability in hospitality - helping the industry and travelers worldwide reduce their resource use and footprint, whilst still providing guest's with an excellent stay. We are passionate about guests enjoying a well deserved holiday while retaining the culture and heritage of the area.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

We first visited Sarlat in 1995 - just for one magical night while staying in another French department. Sophie had always remembered the incredible evening light and soft whispers that embrace the old city. In 2015, with both a close friend and Chris' brother losing their battle with cancer, we decided life was too short not to embrace our dreams - and so Sophie traveled throughout France on a house hunt. After 3 weeks she drove one cold February night into the town of Sarlat and was lifted back in time to 1995 and engulfed by the absolute beauty of the town, the warmth of the people and the uniqueness of the buildings. This is a beautiful apartment, in a beautiful square in the most beautiful village in the most beautiful part of France. Years later our daughter was looking through old photo albums, and came across a forgotten picture of Sophie standing beside our apartment all those years ago - it was meant to be.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

We adore coming to our apartment as it truly is the Heart of Sarlat - at our front door is the fountain where the monks first found the streams on which to build the town, from our kitchen window you can watch the markets being set up twice a week, a few footsteps away are fabulous cafes, bakeries, restaurants and shops. Winding around all of this are those amazing unchanged medieval lane ways and alleys. We love visiting the incredible natural attractions nearby, and the amazing villages along the Dordogne. The history is intact, the atmosphere is magical, the nature is stunning, the food is gorgeous, the wine is world-famous, the people are welcoming. And all of this is a truly beautiful apartment. We hope you have a wonderful stay in Heart of Sarlat.
