We really enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous property over the Thanksgiving holiday. The house is very spacious and the kitchen is well-equipped. The views and natural light are second to none and loved the small town feel of Cobb Island. We hope to come back again soon! Thank you!
This lovely home has given our family a perfect vacation week for the third year in a row. Beautiful sunsets, good weather, and outdoor activities made for wonderful memories. We will surely be returning. Thanks again to our perfect hostess and an excellent cleaning crew.
Good friends coming together to celebrate our dear friend sonâs wedding. The house was clean and accommodating, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The view was spectacular!!
Our second year enjoying this beautiful vacation home was once again memorable. Our host is the best and the house is large and clean and welcoming. We will be scheduling our next vacation, of course, at this perfect location. Thank you Meredith for providing such excellence.
Everything about the property is amazing. The house is huge and has so much space. The bedrooms are great. They have a fully stocked kitchen. Not to mention the amazing views of the Potomac, especially at sunset.
So elegant comfortable spacious & quiet. What a great place to escape and enjoy the water. We rented several houses for a family reunion. Each house hosted dinner one night. This house was by far the most convenient for cooking and serving a large meal. The dinner table easily seats 10 and can squeeze in 14 with a couple folding chairs. Itâs a wonderful house and given the chance we would never leave.
The house was fine, but we cut our stay in half because of extreme noise and discomfort. The Dahlgren Naval Surface Weapons facility is directly across the bay from the house, and it literally was shaken from floor to ceiling by heavy weapons testing that lasted from 8am to 5pm. A local resident said that the noise was much louder than on "his side" of the island and that windows are often replaced on the island due to the extensive concussions and blast waves. We had our dog with us (a 65-pound Goldador), and he was terrified. The noise issues continued after the weapons testing finished, when a homeowner cranked up a leaf blower just outside our bedroom windows each night we were there. The house has minimal window shades--the first floor bedroom is missing a shade on the window that looks directly into the next door patio and bedroom, which makes privacy (and taking a nap in a dark room) impossible. Most of the restaurants/eating establishments in the listing are closed or no longer in business. We were looking forward to using the Foosball table, but the playing surface was broken and sagging. Although the owner's notes included the possibility of an odor in the well water even though the water was safe to drink, the sulphur smell when we showered was really bad--I recommend the use of a charcoal block filter to help with the smell. We had planned our four days to celebrate my wife's birthday, but we decided to leave two days early and celebrate at home.
The good news is that the house itself is beautiful. We had plenty of room for all our guests and the views are gorgeous. Everyone enjoyed their visit and we would highly recommend this home for a nice getaway. The Island is very cute and it was so convenient to the wedding venue.
The bad news: We had multiple communication problems with the owner. He didn't respond to any of my emails which I believe is unacceptable. We had to call him in order to get a response. Also, the house had not been cleaned when we arrived. The previous guests had left the house a mess, sheets and towels were not washed, the bathrooms were dirty along with the floors. We had to call the owner and he offered to clean the home but it would be at least 2 hours. We had the rest of the guests arriving so this was unacceptable. We had to clean the whole house and he refunded me the cleaning deposit. I would think he would have called or emailed me apologizing for this HUGE inconvenience, but I didn't receive one.
I hate to leave a negative response because the home is so beautiful, but I hope the owner is better at communication from this point on.
We recently stayed at this home for a week-long getaway. We had folks come in from all around the country and once we reached the destination... we were so thankful that the house and all the descriptions on HomeAway matched exactly.
The house was perfect for our needs. Views from all over the house out to the water were spectacular. The kitchen and dining area ideally suited our group of 8. We never felt that we were in each other's way.
We appreciated all the extras around the house: Bikes, yard games, deck chairs, movies, gaming systems, etc.
Cobb Island may not be a destination for us in future trips, but if we could clone this house and take it to other waterfront locations, we would do it in a heartbeat.
There were only a few negative things:
The outdoor grill was functional but not easy to use as the valves malfunctioned making it difficult to control temperature. The outdoor picnic table was not safe for more than a couple people to sit on. There were a lot of bugs and cobwebs around all the entrances to the house which did not appear to be taken care of in several weeks. The yard had a lot of weeds, and it bugged a few in our party so much that they went out and pulled them out themselves.
Lastly, we reached out to the owners via email on three occasions to request if our dogs would be welcome (the house is listed as pet-friendly and there are listed prices within the rental contract). Sadly, we never received a response, which unfortunately added expenses for boarding.
This is our 3rd time renting this beautiful house. That should tell ya something . Meredith continuously reigns supreme as the hostess with the mostess. Sheâs attentive to the customers needs before they even step foot onto this property. Everything you will need is there and if notâŠ..the family dollar is up the street and Walmart is across the bridge. We enjoy our trips to Walmart. We celebrated Sep birthdays, a farewell and attended a wedding in Swann Point. We enjoyed the pier. We purchased crabs from Captain Charles and they were delicious!!! We fished. We had a wonderful time. This house is like no other on the island. The architect of this house is brilliant. We LOVE THIS HOUSE!!
Our vacation week was wonderful. The house is comfortable and the sunsets are spectacular. The family spent our evenings playing lawn games and our days kayaking and fishing. The owners provide all the essentials and our host was always available, knowledgeable, and very kind. A wonderful week indeed.
This was such a gem for our family getaway. We went with our family, kids, and their godparents. Perfect place to do a crab boil, walk to the local coffee shop for breakfast, and watch INCREDIBLE fireworks off the dock for the 4th! Meredith was super responsive and great to work with.
Highly recommend.
This is my 2nd time renting this property. It was amazing last time and more amazing this time. It was the best birthday ever with family, food and fun. Canât get enough of this property. Not a cooking cutter home. Space galore. They have leveraged every square foot of this home making it so functional. It has everything that you can think of and will need to make unforgettably memories. Fishing and crabbing on the pier is always a hit. We even enjoyed Cobb Island day. Will be back in September. Thanks again MeridithâŠ.youâre AMAZING!!!. I replaced your chair that blew of the pier my last stay. I bought it from the new dollar general.
What a beautiful home! This property had everything to make our visit relaxing and comfortable. This is clearly a well-loved and cared for home. We would love to return!
They were strategic with every square foot of this property!! Itâs loaded with everything youâll need to create new memories and have a good time. We fished on the pier and caught so many catfish!! We filleted them prepared them for dinner!!! Amazing!!! Meredith was attentive to my fireplace inquiry with a quick resolve. Nice BONUS loft area on 3rd level (bed, sitting area and foosball table). AgainâŠBONUS 2nd level with TV and sitting areas. Now that Iâm thinking about itâŠkinda wished a tv was on 1st level and in all the bedrooms. AnywhoâŠkitchen well stocked with every gadget you can think of. Bikes and chairs in the garage. Donât let one the chairs blow into the River like I did. It can get windy on the pier. BONUSâŠTwo refrigerators in the kitchen. 6 vehicles fit in the driveway. Picnic tables and more items outside for your enjoyment. Rested well, had run and will surely return!!! Worth EVERY PENNY!!! Thanks again Meredith!!! You so ROCK!!!
This is a large property that accommodated our group perfectly. The house is large with modern amenities and has amazing sunsets. We will book this property again.
We had our second fabulous weekend at this home. The kids enjoyed the playground and meeting other children on the island. The kitchen had everything we needed. It is a nice relaxing place to be.
Very nice, beautiful views. Spacious, allowed our immediate family to stay together leading up to and following our son Nicks wedding. Great family time, will never forget it.
The house is spectacular and the views of the water are amazing. We spent a week reading, playing games and resting. The goal was to break up the monotony of covid in DC. However, food choices are super limited and go grocery shopping before you go. If you just want to rest and relax then this is the place. There isnât really anything else to do in the area or on the island.
We enjoyed our relaxing stay on Cobb Island! This spacious home is well appointed with comfort and rustic ambiance. We felt right at home! We have to recommend the crab cakes from Jacks Crab House as well!
This was the perfect family weekend. The children spent hours fishing at the dock. The sunset was spectacular. We enjoyed walking on the island and the kids made friends at the playground. The house was very comfortable, had everything we needed, and Meredith was very helpful and responsive. We look forward to planning another trip. Thank you for the great fall weekend!
You are going to love Cobb Island, I often describe it as Mayberry on the water. A place where the schedule slows down, folks walk around and talk to neighbors, and most importantly it's a place to unwind and relax.
The dock and pier are best places to spend your time. The view is great. You can watch a sunset, throw a line in the water or simply read a book. Bird watching is also fun, Bald Eagles come by early in the year until they get chased off by the Osprey which are fun to watch on the hunt. Purple Marten birds can be found flying around all year.
