À propos de cet hébergement
The Gabin. Part garage, part cabin. All good.
The whole group will be comfy in this spacious and unique spot in the pines. The overhead door is the only “garage” thing about it! There are plenty of activities in the area, or stay right on our nearly 15 acres of forested land to relax and walk or ride our trails through the trees. We’ve added a screen for the garage door opening. Now you can roll up the garage door to feel like you’re outside! Our year-round Gabin is not a fancy place, but is a very comfortable space, with nearly 15 acres of roaming area, trees and trails. Much of the interior of the cabin was constructed by our family with wood harvested right from our forest. The king bed is hand crafted from 6x6 timbers from trees that were also harvested from our property.
The second bedroom has a bit of a whimsical feel to it, with each wall having a different wood theme, all wood taken from our property and hand crafted to finish the space.
There is a third, unfinished bedroom, that we use as storage for now. We kindly ask that you keep that room off limits.
The bathroom is spacious and is also finished with our own timber, with the exception of a small unfinished utility area that the bathroom shares space with. The water is very “hard” in this geographic area, which can cause a slight rust color tint to the water and at times have a slight sulfur odor, but we have found the water softener does a great job treating that down to a minimum, even unnoticeable most of the time.
Most of the interior space is a large central room, shared in an open format between the living room, dining area and small kitchen space with a top freezer fridge, kitchen cabinet sink we built ourselves, complete with a hand-built concrete countertop, gas range and stove, and a cedar island flanked by bar stools on one side. Nearly one entire wall is an overhead door that can be raised to enjoy a warm summer morning or a cool, sunny fall afternoon with the football game playing in the background. There is a full length screen in place. It will not roll up, as it was damaged, but it works great down. The side zippers can be used to exit and enter.
We also have an RV spot on the property for rent. If you are interested in that, just let us know. It is an extra $50/night and has a 30 amp RV electrical outlet, a regular 110 outlet and a water spigot. We only offer it for rent to those renting the cabin, so there is no worry about having other visitors on the property with you. We just ask that the RV have a bathroom, as we don't want to risk too many people on our septic system at one time.
Most of your time will probably be spent outside roaming the property, riding your ATVs or snowmobiles on our trails, or sitting by a fire at the fire pit, grilling on the BBQ pit, or the propane grill, playing on the playground equipment, or at a nearby lake, state park, or riding the miles of biking, ATV and snowmobile trails nearby. Our spot is a great destination, or home base for a day trip to Duluth, or to Millle Lacs Lake, both about 45 minutes away. But when you do hang out inside the Gabin, you can enjoy comfortable leather furniture and a 60” HD TV, DIRECTV, and wireless Internet suitable for light surfing, social media and email, some streaming, but in our area there is no 'wired' internet service available, so internet is over-the-air cellular. Speeds and the data allowance of 150 gig don’t always hold up for heavy HD streaming for the entire month, but hey, you don't come here to watch TV right!.
There is a propane heating stove for the winter months and mobile window unit A/C for the summer. Here are the House Rules we ask your to follow: Note the all-caps are not meant to be rude but to emphasize based on past experience *** Please read the House Manual and understand how to operating the security system, and ask questions prior to arrival if you have any. Guests have set the alarm off by accident, which immediately alerts law enforcement to respond, which has also happened. The county is within their rights to charge for false alarms***If you set off the smoke alarm, the monitoring service will call in for a fire response, so please be ready to ANSWER THE PHONE LISTED AS YOUR CONTACT PHONE IMMEDIATELY, or the fire response can not be canceled, and again there could be a false alarm charge. If you close the bathroom door and turn on the bathroom wall heater, do not turn it on high or, as we’ve recently learned it can get above 95 degrees in there, which will set off a temperature monitoring alarm installed to warn of freezing or excessively high temps. Note that if using the retractable full garage door screen, the two side zippers MUST BE UNZIPPED BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO ROLL THE SCREEN UP. Failure to do this has resulted in damage to the screen in the past. *** Thank you for following our policy of No smoking/vaping of any kind or substance is allowed anywhere on/in the property. *** Dogs are welcome, but if your pup sheds at all please bring a sheet to cover our bedspread and other furnishings and a lint roller so as not to leave any dog hair behind***Please leave any slept-in beds unmade, so the house cleaner will know what bedding to wash *Please do not move the furniture around, but if you feel you need to, please put it back the way you found it when you arrived. *No firearms shooting or *hunting, please *keep fires small and in the fire pit, *no fireworks (you’re in a pine forest 😊). *Please keep out of the third bedroom, as it is currently unfinished. *the wood stove in the master bedroom does not have a stove pipe, and is for decorative purposes ONLY. The stove is also heavy, so if there are children in your party please do not let them play on or with it. *If you have kiddos in your party please keep them clear of the deer stand in the far SE Corner of the property. *Our place uses a septic sewer system, so please do not flush anything other than what is supposed to be in a toilet. There is a strainer in the kitchen sink as we do not have a garbage disposal, and please be conscious of not letting faucets or the shower run unnecessarily. *Please do your dishes and if you use the charcoal or propane grills please clean them after using, and put the grill cover back on the propane grill when done. Thank you and enjoy your stay!
