NEWLY LISTED as of June 2024. This home offers complete privacy in a tranquil forest setting, surrounded by second-growth redwoods, ferns, and Japanese Maples from the west, east, and south. The lush grounds back into the Sonoma Land Trust's Freezeout Redwoods Watershed Preserve, nestled within the picturesque Sonoma Beach State Park. The architect-designed house boasts solid craftsmanship, picturesque views, and includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms over two levels. A new 2024 hot tub is adjacent to the downstairs bedroom, while a heated patio with BBQ on the upper deck overlooks the Russian River ravine and surrounding hillsides. This section of the Russian River is uniquely wild and undeveloped, frequently visited by foxes, deer, river otters, and seals swimming upstream from Jenner. The area is also an open aviary, home to egrets, herons, ducks, mallards, shorebirds, songbirds, and raptors like ospreys and occasionally bald eagles.

Beyond the property, guests can enjoy walking-distance river access and the popular Islands in the Sky trails for horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking. The historic town of Duncans Mills is a scenic one-mile walk away, offering various local events and activities (https://duncansmillsvillage.com/events/). Nearby attractions include renowned wineries crafting Russian River Pinot Noirs, such as Fort Ross, Hartford Family Winery, Korbel, and Iron Horse. A few miles east leads guests to the Northwood Golf Course, designed by famous golf course designer Dr. Alister MacKenzie (known for Augusta National, Pasatiempo, and Cypress Point). Golf.com ranks it as the 30th best 9-hole course globally, and TravelAwaits.com places it as the 8th best public course in California. The majestic Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Preserve is a few miles further east, in Guerneville, which boasts massive first-growth Redwood stands. From the property, a seven-mile drive west leads to the mouth of the Russian River at Jenner and the dramatic beaches of West Sonoma County, featuring hiking trails and tidepools. Close to Jenner, the Kortum hiking trail leads to the famous Sunset Boulders, a blueschist rock formation believed to have been used by mammoths as a scratching post 40,000 years ago. A great place to read and relax…and more

A really fun hide a way. Tucked away in the woods, the home is warm, great garden, and the management could not have been more attentive. Close to good restaurants and fun shopping locations. Also, close to the coast. We are looking forward to returning. John and Sue

Perfect Zen Escape

This home is amazing. The layout so perfect if you have kids, a space downstairs for them while there’s also a space upstairs for the adults so everyone can enjoy easy conversation. The grounds are amazing! We saw birds, a chipmunk (we named it Nutmeg), foxes, and approximate a million banana slugs. There are many levels to the yard with a hammock, fire pit, hot tub, and paths to walk. We walked into town - an easy, beautiful 1 mile walk that everyone could complete (5-70 years old). We can’t wait to return!!! Favorite rental ever.

Great house in the redwoods!

We had a blast staying here for a quiet writing retreat! It was very peaceful to wake up in the misty redwoods in the morning and we loved being just a 25min walk from Duncan Mills (incredible pastries at the cafe). The kitchen is really nice and open and we enjoyed working in the living room and at the upstairs desk. The hot tub was a nice break and the stars were amazing when the sky was clear. Would definitely stay again!

Charming Duncan Mills

Fantastic spot. Very clean and nicely decorated with excellent beds, well laid out kitchen, great hang out areas inside and out. Town of Duncan Mills is a true West County gem.

This property was one of the most peaceful properties I've stayed. Not only is the house in an interesting layout that is spacious yet cozy, but the landscaping and gardens were an absolute DREAM to spend the long afternoon in. I would absolutely stay here agin!

Weekend Getaway

My friends and I had a fantastic time at this VRBO. Beautiful scenery, relaxing hot tub, close to a great coffee shop and the Russian River, etc. Overall, the place was great. Screens on the windows might have been helpful, but the views would not have been so clear and lovely.

Peaceful and Relaxing Russian River Getaway

Enjoyed our stay near the Russian River, with lots to do nearby and in surrounding areas. Location is private. We enjoyed seeing the fox, deer, and bluejays, as well as just sitting by the fire, looking at the night sky. We also took advantage of relaxing in the hot tub. Clean, kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook a meal, the shower was great, and beds were very comfortable. More than expected

This was such a great oasis getaway! The property felt secluded, even though it is only a mile (and within walking distance) of places to eat and coffee. Two floors connected by a spiral staircase (there is a gravel driveway that extends to the upper floor where the kitchen, living area, outdoor patio, and a second bedroom are located in case there are any accessibility issues) and the bedrolms are on both floors which make it very quiet. Everything I could want in a getaway/ hot tub, fire pit, indoor fireplace, beautiful deck with outside seating to catch the sun. Even a hammock for relaxing a reading a book! Host was VERY responsive, and reached out to me several times, which I appreciated. I would suggest if you don’t know the area to try to come in daylight as the roads are curvy and the actual road that the house is on is one lane. Host gave clear directions, but my phone app also directed me accurately. Would love to come back again!

Relax after exploring

This house provides access to beautiful Sonoma County coast and Redwoods. Returned home to a comfortable place to relax and visit with friends. The garden has several spots to sit and enjoy the amphitheater like opening in the redwood forest. A small fox visited the yard in the evening. Sort of magical.

Secluded gem of a property

This house is in a stunning location, close to the river and engulfed by trees. The exterior of this property has been wonderfully set up so you can enjoy the serene surroundings and the house was well appointed and comfortable. You can make a .5 mile walk along the private road to a cute coffee shop/bakery in the morning and it's an easy 10 minute drive out to the coast in Jenner. We would definitely stay here again, and could bring another couple with us as there was plenty of room for another pair or family to join and still feel like you each had your own space. Thank you to Matt, Kirsten, and Kimberly (who tended to us even though she was busy with her own daughter's wedding!)

Wonderful stay

The house is ideal! We planned to stay for 3 nights but loved it so much that we stayed an extra night. The outside space was beautiful with a wonderful path up the hill. The bunk bed was a hit with the kids and the other two beds were very comfortable. The house was well appointed with everything we needed. We woke up early and walked into town for coffee. The house is in close proximity to the beach, wonderful towns, and great hiking. Matt was so kind, helpful and responsive. We hope to go back!

Fabulous understated luxury in the redwoods

My husband and I visited this amazing cabin/home for a kid-free getaway. Everything from the location to the views was perfect. We were able to see lots of wildlife from the kitchen window (a sweet fox, a doe and her fawns, hummingbirds, jays, a little raccoon, and more). The kitchen is well appointed, the bathrooms are wonderful, the beds are very comfortable, and there was plenty of space while still feeling cozy. The heated porch and hot tub were HUGE bonuses, and we used them frequently. We both cooked gourmet meals at the house and ventured into Duncan’s Mills and Guerneville for food and fun. Quick drives to gorgeous beaches (Jenner and Bodega), and we loved being right near the river. We can’t wait to visit again! *while we visited without our kiddos, I know that they would’ve loved the cabin/home just as much as my husband and I did.

A Magical Retreat in the Forest with a Tree House and Charming Town Nearby!

We had an incredible stay at this enchanting forest retreat! The house is nestled in lush greenery, providing a serene and peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxing getaway. One of the highlights was the whimsical tree house—an absolute dream! It’s the perfect spot to unwind, read a book, or simply enjoy the view of the surrounding forest. The property itself is beautifully maintained and offers a cozy yet spacious feel. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into making the space comfortable and inviting. The lush foliage around the house makes it feel like you’re in your own private paradise, with plenty of space to explore and enjoy nature. A delightful bonus is the charming little town just a few minutes away. It’s filled with adorable shops and cafes that add a lovely touch to the whole experience. And the best part? The ocean is only a short drive away, making it easy to enjoy both the tranquility of the forest and the refreshing sea breeze. Overall, this house is a perfect blend of forest seclusion, quaint town charm, and coastal convenience. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to escape and recharge. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a unique and memorable vacation!

Absolutely a MUST visit!

Our family (w/ granny, 3 adults/3 kids) thoroughly enjoyed the property and surrounding area. Before setting foot in we spotted our first of many deer on the road near the house. Getting into the house is a breeze and the hosts are on top of any questions you may have. Once settled in after walking the property enjoying the views we saw welcome booklets (1 each floor) in the living rooms that detail answers to most if not all minor questions you may have as well as some local eatery and site recommendations that we took full advantage of (don't skip the Blue Heron Restaurant / Tavern)! The hot tub was great to relax in with a nice breeze blowing through the trees and views of the hillside and well landscaped yard and trails. My 10 year old son was constantly searching the trails and leaves for banana slugs and showing off each find. We took several hikes up the trail that leads up the hill/mountain side behind the house that starts by the well placed hammock enjoying the views down below and to the river as well as the Redwood tree tops grown down where we started the ascent. Plenty of bird watching to do at the bird feeder/bath area in the mornings and afternoons. We saw several finch, Steller's jays (beautiful), doves and a pair of quail one morning. My wife and 10 year old also were lucky enough to spot a fox taking a quick drink from the bird bath. A+ on cleanliness and fully stocked wares. Only wish we booked longer for more time to enjoy this magical retreat.....

Hillside Sanctuary

Tucked against Sonoma Coast State Park, this rental afforded a true escape from city life. The garden felt like decades of work, lush with Japanese Maples and visited by all kinds of birds and the occasional chipmunks.Beds were comfy, kitchen was well equipped, hot tub was clean and awesome. Heaters really pump the heat when the nights get cold. Tons of natural light.Don't be afraid of the one-lane road to the property; it's low trafficked and the neighbors do not speed. Just preview on Google maps so you'll recognize the steep driveway on your left.Kimberly the manager was very helpful.Recommended!
