À propos de cet hébergement
Sorry, no longer available for rental.
This charming 1907 historic Victorian cottage on a quiet street has ample street parking in the heart of Pacific Grove. We completely remodeled and updated this cozy home with comfortable, fresh décor and everything you need. Only one block from the town’s central street Lighthouse, which abounds with cute shops and excellent restaurants. A three-block walk takes you to the ocean and a wonderful shoreline walking/biking trail, which runs from Lover’s Point to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, the Monterey Pier, and beyond. It is close to beautiful beaches, hiking, and the 17 Mile Drive that connects Pacific Grove to Carmel. One month minimum rental.
There is a keyless touch-pad front door lock. We will provide the code prior to your arrival. You may arrive at any time after 4 pm. There is no need to coordinate with us.
The monthly charge includes cleaning, utilities, and taxes; there are no other charges. Our housekeeper cleans the house every two weeks, typically on Monday afternoons, including during your stay.
More info:
The house was constructed in 1907 and then expanded in 1928. The front door opens into a living room/dining room. The living room includes a comfortable sofa and side chair, a coffee table, a credenza, TV, and high-speed wireless WiFi modem. The dining room contains a table, two dining chairs, a china chest, and small storage chest. Heating and cooling are provided by a mini-split unit that operates with a remote. All six of the windows have wood shutters. These rooms have 9-foot ceilings. The flooring is wire-brushed oak, with a small carpet in the living room. From the dining room, you then enter the kitchen.
Everything in the house is new. The kitchen includes a stacked, large-capacity washing machine and dryer, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee maker, blender, toaster, and lots of glasses, dishes, bowls, pans, pots, and utensils. The counters are quartz and the flooring is tile. The ceiling is nine feet high. The three windows have shades. A side door opens outside to a tiny deck area and a staircase. From the kitchen, you enter a short hallway.
The bathroom is off the hallway. Like the rest of the house, everything is new. There is a sink, toilet, and combination shower and tub. Also, there is a linen cabinet with shelves. The floor is tile. There is a light over the mirror and a combination fan, heater, and light on the ceiling. The fan turns on automatically when the bathroom gets humid, per the building code. All of the electrical and plumbing in the house is new and inspected and permitted by the City Building Inspector. All of the faucets and appliances in the house, and toilet and shower head are compliant with the very strict low flow requirements in Monterey County. (Unfortunately, this is a fact of life in the County; a limited supply of water and strict conservation requirements.) The ceiling is eight feet high in this part of the house. The floor is tile.
.
The bedroom is also off the hallway, in the back of the house. Back here, you will notice that the house is built on a hill that slopes down from Laurel Avenue toward the NE. The bedroom is essentially on the second floor, above the garage. It receives lots of light through five windows, morning and afternoon sun. And, the largest window has a pretty, partial view of the ocean and the coastline. This part of the house was originally two bedrooms, but now is one room that has two parts. The flooring is wire brushed oak, with a small carpet. There is a sleeping space for a queen bed, two night stands, and two reading lamps. And, there is a sitting space with a small sofa, small table, two dining chairs, and a floor lamp. Heating and cooling is provided by a mini-split unit with a remote. This is a cozy place for a card game, to do something on a laptop, chat, or read. The small sofa pulls out into a single bed. The house is suitable for two people; the extra pull-out provides the option to sleep in separate beds.
There is not a huge amount of space outside of the house. In front, we have a small patio with a round table and two matching chairs. This part of the property, on Laurel Avenue, has a southern exposure and gets a lot of sun all day. There is also a tiny deck outside of the kitchen door, and another tiny deck at the bottom of the same stairs. These tiny decks have a really nice view of the ocean and Monterey Bay coastline.
Out the front door and to the right, you can go up 9th Street a half block and look at the famous Butterfly House. If you go down 9th Street, you will reach the ocean and the bike/walking trail in three blocks. From this point, you can walk to the left toward Lovers' Point, or to the right to the Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row.
You can walk or drive to some really good nearby restaurants. We especially like La Mia Cuchina, a very homey old World Italian restaurant, and Taste Cafe and Bistro, also with an old World vibe, friendly owners and excellent food. For grocery shopping we like Andronico's at David Street and Central. For a smaller store with an old fashioned meat market, we like Grove Market on Forest.
We will be sending you more information before your visit on the house, neighborhood, shopping, restaurants, and things to do. Nearby Carmel has so many things to do, and Monterey, Moss Landing, Salinas, etc.

Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous êtes reçu par Roy McDonald

Elaine Russell and Roy McDonald are your hosts. We grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and now live in Sacramento.
We vacationed in the Monterey/Carmel/Pacific Grove area many times as children and adults, returning for the fresh ocean air, beautiful scenery, cute shops, excellent restaurants, beaches, and fun things to do.
We bought this cute 1907/1928 house in 2022 as a monthly vacation rental and a possible place to retire in the future.
We are long-time VRBO hosts. We owned and self-rented a short-term vacation rental in Hawaii for many years. We always had fantastic reviews for the condo and for guest support.
In addition, we are frequent VRBO travelers, so we have had lots of different rental experiences. This helps us anticipate what guests will need for a comfortable, convenient stay. We want our guests to experience the peaceful and beautiful environment of this special part of California.
Our Pacific Grove house is available for a minimum stay of one month to comply with the City of Pacific Grove rules and regulations regarding vacation rentals. Shorter stays are only allowed in a few neighborhoods, in our case just one block away.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
Our house is close to everything, but far enough away to avoid the negative things that come with tourism. We are surrounded by historic houses, many retaining their original character, and just around the corner from the famous Butterfly House. Families of tame deer amble down the street each morning, challenging everyone's gardens by munching on even the so-called "deer resistant" plants. It's very quiet; seagulls and distant cries of sea lions are what typically break the silence. Laurel Avenue is a walking neighborhood, especially during the early morning and evening. Young children are marched by to and from pre-school (two blocks away). People are friendly and welcoming.
Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
For us, 348 Laurel Avenue is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the history of the California central coast and to help maintain this unique locale. The air is fresh, views of the ocean are almost everywhere, shopping is small and local, and walking is a preferred mode of travel. The original house was built of local, old-growth redwood and the foundation sits on weathered granite bedrock. The postage stamp-sized lot is a legacy of the tiny parcels that were originally sold as summertime tent-camping sites in the 1800's. The current low density population reminds us of what California was like when we were young.
