The house was clean, roomy, and comfortable. Close to the beach. Nice grill and deck area. Parking was great for 4 cars. We would definitively stay here again.

Family vacation 25.

House was listed well. Kitchen well stocked with appliances and pot and pans. Cleaning is an issue. Sand everywhere! Bathrooms have piles of it all over the floor. I did message the owner about this and was told that the house was sprayed prior to arrival. I’m unsure what this had to do with how the house inside was cleaned.. The living room is dusty and when sitting with the couch and chairs extended under them had a lot of food and hair. Also, communication on the first day of a vacation lacked. I called 5 times, texted, messaged in the app, and messaged housekeeping without response until the last call to the homeowner.

Enjoyed the location and house. Communication was good. Only thing that could improve is that only one room had a true dresser. There are closets but they did not have any hangars. Basically lived out of suitcase or had to put clothes on the floor. Price was reasonable but VRBO fees are more than a Realtor's, which we always have used for our other vacations. Also, the cleaning expense was always part of the initial price. I understand it was the end of the summer and cleaning has to be done after one family leaves in a couple of hours before the next shows up but it wasn't as clean as most places we walked into considering the cleaning price. Also, a golf cart is a necessity but not included in the price so another 500 dollars was needed. Several comparable places include a golf cart with a comparable price. The campground and beach are great and the location is great for beach access. We will probably come again, but look into other options for housing.

CANCEL YOUR STAY IF YOU CAN

Do not stay at The Salty Mermaid. If you’re reading this and still within your cancellation window, CANCEL immediately. This place was an absolute disaster from start to finish, and it’s shocking that it’s even listed as a vacation rental.When we arrived, we were greeted by a broken front glass door and an outdoor light with exposed wiring-a major safety issue. The inside of the house was filthy, with visible dirt, dust, and grime on surfaces and in corners. There was mold in multiple areas, and worse, we saw cockroaches crawling through the kitchen and bathroom. It was unsanitary and disgusting.We contacted the host right away to report the condition of the home, but they were completely unhelpful and dismissive. No refund. There was no true apology. He made a minor effort to fix a couple things, but took no accountability whatsoever. It was clear they had no intention of maintaining this property or caring about guests’ experiences.The listing photos were incredibly misleading — they do not reflect the current condition of the property. What we walked into was not just disappointing; it was downright unacceptable.This was the worst rental experience we’ve ever had. I’m writing this to save someone else from wasting their money, risking their health, or ruining their trip. There are plenty of great places to stay in Myrtle Beach — this is not one of them. We left early from the vacation we worked so hard to be on-we couldn’t handle it anymore. CANCEL IF YOU CAN!

Family vacation

The house is really nice. Large kitchen stocked well for a large group. However the refrigerator doesn’t work well and it leaks. It will freeze items in the back. The parking is also a problem. We had 3 mini vans and you can’t pull into the parking spaces. Very hard to park. The house is newly renovated and is very nice.

The house has potential but we won't return

I'll start with the positives . This house is great for groups , we had 3 families with 16 people . Each family had their own bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen being open to the livingroom makes for a great space to gather . The owner offered a 5% military discount which we greatly appreciated. The cons:I read previously about the cleanliness issue but it showed a new company was hired and didnt see any bad reviews at the time of booking earlier this year so thought we would be in the clear. Sadly the issues we had had clearly been noted in the reviews in the last 2 months and have yet to be fixed. I did reach out to the owner the morning after check in , while he didnt try to address any issues or apologize he said he would let the cleaning company know. I chalked our 5% discount up to the cleaning fee that we should have rightfully asked for back. The house was dirty. All the sheets and blankets needed to be washed as they were dirty and sandy. There was beer cans, shot glasses and trash under the beds . There were blunts on the table downstairs in a candle -we are grateful our house full of children didnt find this before we did on night 2. The bedroom remotes didnt have batteries , which we had to purchase and many lights have blown bulbs/broken .It's sad the house has alot of potential. Had I checked the reviews the month before I would have reached out to confirm that the cleaning and maintenance had been fixed.

Its was ok

Great property location. We couldn't use the outside furniture its was dirty and we couldn't get the tv to work. All the bathrooms were dirty we had to clean them. We had problems with all the tv's in the house. I did contact the property owner and he did respond. The beds are very uncomfortable lumpy. This is a beautiful property and the house is beautiful. Its needs a very good deep cleaning and new furniture.

Great Location and owner was very responsive! Kitchen was stock with pots and pans!! My only complaint is the parking! Very tight squeeze for 4 vehicles but when booking it said we had 5 spaces!! So close to the beach and beds were comfortable !

Annual family vacation

Unfortunately we were hit with the tropical storm Debby but our family motto is "We'll make it work." The location is perfect for walking to the beach and the neighbors are friendly. Because of the rain, we played games downstairs with them in the carport. Parking is tight so we parked one of our cars in the overflow lot. We had an issue with the toilet downstairs, but my son (pipefitter) gave it a temporary fix to get us through the week. I notified Kevin who replied immediately and offered to send someone to fix it. Because of the storm, I let him know that my son took care of it. The one disappointment was the cleanliness. Maybe it's my OCD. The coffeemaker had grounds with mold so we cleaned it out but bought a new one to use and just bring home. We washed all of the cookware before using and used paper plates and plastic utensils. We swept, mopped and vacuumed the floors, and washed the bathmats because they were dirty. I should mention that this is our first time using VRBO to rent a beach house at Ocean Lakes. All of our previous stays were through the property. Overall, I absolutely recommend this house for the location and amenities.

July 4th Trip

The house was super adorable and for being in the middle of the travel season was holding up! Unfortunately the vacuum had no suction so the same was hard to keep down. All issues we had were fixed in a timely manner. Nice short walk to the beach and where it is at its tucked into the back corner which made it a little more quiet which was nice for a busy week! I enjoyed our time and would go back.

Great house but....

The house itself and location were great. However, the house was dirty, trash under the bed, molded mattress cover, broken toilet seat. The beds had been slept in. We spent the first day cleaning and washing sheets. I requested a refund of our cleaning and linen fee and to be paid back for the toilet seat we bought. I have yet to receive anything. Owner has not been helpful.

Giving Thanks

We celebrated my mom beating breast cancer over Thanksgiving. The house was terrific, clean and everything we needed to prepare meals. Thanks, Kevin, for everything.

Great stay

We enjoyed our stay. The house had more than enough room to accommodate our group (4 adults, 2 babies, 3 toddlers, 2 kids, and 3 teenagers). Everything was as described and pictured. Love the fact the the pots and pans were large to accommodate large groups that was a nice surprise! Over all 10/10 would stay again! The host was very accommodating to letting us check in really early and very responsive to messages. We had 0 issues that have been previously mentioned in other reviews.
