À propos de cet hébergement
THE TOLL BAR, romantic, with a garden in Castleton, Peak District
The Toll Bar in Castleton, Derbyshire sleeps 2 in 1 bedroom.
The Toll Bar is a characterful, terraced Grade II listed stone-built cottage set in the heart of Castleton in Derbyshire, offering a unique stay steeped in history. Once used to collect tolls for the nearby church and cemetery, and later serving as a shop, the property has been carefully converted into a welcoming retreat for couples or solo travellers seeking a base within the Peak District.
Step inside to discover an inviting open-plan living space, where exposed stone features nod to the building’s past while the layout provides everything needed for a relaxed stay. Prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen, gather around the dining area, and unwind in the sitting space beside the electric fire after a day spent exploring the surrounding countryside. A conservatory-style courtyard at the rear offers an outdoor spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening drink.
Upstairs, the property hosts a king-size bedroom with a zip/link feature for flexible sleeping arrangements, complete with a sleek en-suite shower room. Throughout the cottage, thoughtful touches blend the building’s heritage with practical comforts, including the preserved original toll booth, now displayed within a glass cabinet as a distinctive feature of historical interest.
With shops, pubs, and a river just 0.1 miles away, guests are perfectly positioned to enjoy Castleton’s amenities. Visit Hope Valley for scenic walks and panoramic views, explore Edale, known for its access to Kinder Scout and walking routes, or head to Bakewell to sample local produce and browse independent shops. Attractions nearby include Peveril Castle, Speedwell Cavern, and Mam Tor, each offering unique experiences within the Peak District National Park.
The Toll Bar in Castleton provides a memorable base for discovering Derbyshire’s rich landscapes and heritage. Note: There is a GHB of 300 GBP
Amenities: Bicycles can be left in the courtyard not in the house please
Region: The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Town: The picturesque village of Castleton nestles in the beautiful Esk Valley, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this bustling village offers superb amenities including two pubs, both serving great food, a convenience store, deli & tea rooms. There is a railway station serving the Esk Valley and Whitby, which also links with the steam line to the attractive market town of Pickering. The Camphill Village Trust community of Botton is nearby, with its craft workshops and shops selling home produced food, craft items and books. The historic city of York is just over an hour away, and the coastal towns and villages of Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hood's Bay and Sandsend with its lovely beach, are within easy driving distance, and well worth a visit.
