Historic Barn With Breathtaking Views Over Derbys/Staffs Border. Pet friendly.
Ridgehead Farm Cottages were created in 2008 by converting a 200 year old historic barn into 2 luxury cottages, Snipe and Curlew, they are both rated at the top end of 4 star by the tourist board. Set at 1500ft on a 80 acre equine farm within a site of Special Scientific Interest, they offer stunning views and year round peace and tranquillity yet are conveniently located for local amenities and exploring the Peak District. Each cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and sleeps 4 so are perfect for families or couples, the 2 cottages can be booked together (10% discount) to sleep 8. With underfloor heating downstairs and in all bathrooms they provide a warm, cosy retreat at the end of the day. EV charger now available for use of guests, has type 2 cable fitting most modern electric vehicles. Charging costs at domestic rates.
Beautiful location overlooking the moors. Cottage has everything you need. Quick access into Buxton despite being so beautifully rural location. Great walks nearby.
Eerste indruk was prima.
This is a really beautiful cottage conversion that was originally done a while back but has been updated over the years. It's extremely quiet, very comfortable, very well-equipped (particularly the kitchen - we cooked a full recipe box meal with no problems) and a lovely place to spend time. A basket with some chocolate biscuits and wine was extremely welcome!
The location is very rural - this is a farm on the ridge of the hills in the Peak District and so it's always windy and often a bit misty in the mornings as it's so high up. But when it clears, the views are wonderful and it's so peaceful!
It was very helpful to be able to charge our EV (electric vehicle) here too and at a very fair cost.
There were only a couple of things which could have been a bit better - a bit of time with a feather duster would go a long way, as there was a lot of dust on windowsills, cobwebs in the ceilings, dust collected in the corners of the floor and so on (even by barn conversion standards) but all the important bits were really clean. Also be aware - despite Vrbo saying that Wifi is free throughout, the owners ask people not to stream video because of it being limited each month on a satellite contract, and they even simply turn it off some evenings completely! I do have some sympathy but for a high-end luxury getaway, I don't really feel this is good enough. Mobile reception is excellent, so the owners could look at cellular broadband for wifi. But maybe a digital detox is good anyway!
Thank you again for providing such a fantastic base for our holiday. Curlew Cottage was equipped with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the en-suite was a bonus. The location was stunning with a wonderful view to enjoy from the lovely garden. Betty the Cockapoo had a great time, getting to know the other animals, though I think she might have been disappointed that Jack, the sheep, wouldn't chase her. She enjoyed meeting them all. We definitely plan to return hopefully for a longer stay next time.
I loved it here. Jo is very friendly and welcoming, she ensures you have everything required and nothing is too much for her. The cottage is well equipped with a WC, main bathroom, and an en-suite shower room. WiFi, and a fully functional kitchen with a full size fridge/freezer, and a skinny dishwasher. There is also an electric car charger, but we didnât use it and not sure if it is part of the package. The beds were a bit too hard for us, but thatâs a personal preference because we have back problems, thereâs nothing actually wrong with them. The place needs a bit of updating here and there as expected from a cottage thatâs 35 years old, but it is clean, and to me thatâs the most important. I would definitely stay here again because it is such a peaceful place to stay that is still close to amenities.
A very comfortable little cottage with everything you need for exploring the Peak District. Horses, chicken's and friendly sheep on your doorstep. Jo is a very laid back host and her communication was fantastic.. we had a lovely stay. Thank you
My 7yo and I stayed at the property, there was plenty of room for us and could easily accommodate a family of 4. Iâll definitely be taking my wife back there for a weekend just the 2 of us. The location is stunning. Thank you Jo.
It was a beautiful home from home cottage with everything you need. Comfy beds, lovely setting and great facilities. Jo was a fantastic host, really friendly and welcoming along with her animals who the children adored. Itâs a beautiful peaceful location with stunning views all around. Thank you we will be sure to visit again
Stayed here to visit family in both Stoke on Trent and Bolton and this was roughly in between. Had a wonderful peaceful time here and wished we could have stayed longer. Hope to go back again sometime.
Lovely place to stay in a rural setting. The cottage was cosy and warm, and had everything we needed. The only downside was no wifi, but we had a good phone connection so managed with our hotspot. Jo & Clive were great hosts alwsys available and helpful. It is ideally situated for walk, Buxton, Leek and other peak park towns. Would definitely book it again.
Fantastic warm and cosy retreat in an out of the way location. Good access to walks and tourist attractions alike. Had a great 3 days and dog friendly too.
Wonderful location and very friendly hosts. Perfect for visiting Buxton, Bakewell, Longnor and Matlock and others. The cottage was warm and comfortable and had everything I needed. The sheep were very friendly! I would certainly return
The property has everything one needs, quite a lot of basic products such as milk, tea, coffee, sugar were provided.
The heating was on as temperatures were low for June!
The cottage is gorgeous with amazing views. The host is lovely and communication was really good. The cottage has everything we needed and we enjoyed sitting outside taking in the views and inside when it got chilly where it was cosy and warm.
This is an excellent cottage, located very conveniently to Buxton and Leek and Jo is a wonderful host - cozy and comfortable rooms, warm and a very friendly host.
We loved our stay and highly recommend it - on top of all this, the view is to die for!
The cottage is cosy, comfortable and easy to live in. The location is beautiful and secluded with a lovely little village only a few minutes drive away. Plenty of things to do within a few miles drive and lots of walking. Jo, the host, is welcoming and very helpful. We were 3 friends catching up and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay although the weather was very windy and we had rain and snow showers so couldnât make the most of the outdoor space. We would definitely recommend the cottage and the area and we hope to go back again for more fun times.
We've been here before and enjoyed it so much we have returned and we're about to make our next booking.
It is so peaceful here, the views are lovely (even with the fog!)
The cottage is warm, cosy and comfortable. There is everything we needed and many things we didn't think about but appreciated having such as washing powder to use after our muddy walks.
We'd definitely recommend Lud's Church as a walk, but get there early as the carpark is small and it is VERY popular.
A big bonus for us is that it is dog and child friendly with and ENCLOSED garden and a lovely pond walk straight out the front door.
