This is a single building rental of a Kyomachiya that has been in existence since the Meiji Era (1868-1912). The window overlooks the Kamo River and the town of Gion, making it a prime location to enjoy the typical Kyoto scenery.

Thoroughly enjoyed this little machiya. Easy taxi ride from the train station, although the road gets too narrow for the cab to provide front door service. Not a big deal to walk the final 100 yds. Accessing the lock box was complicated by the fact that it was hiding in the utility meter enclosure to the left. It wasnât apparent in the moment that opening it was an option. We figured it out eventually. The house is great, with three separate sleeping zones that are all unique. We found the location to be a little bit far away from the closest train station, but we soon figured out that Uber cabs are very cheap and way more convenient than trains or buses anyway.
