This is a single building rental of a Kyomachiya that has been in existence since the Meiji Era (1868-1912). The window overlooks the Kamo River and the town of Gion, making it a prime location to enjoy the typical Kyoto scenery.

Property was, as advertised, close to the train station and well located for visiting sites. Excellent set menu restaurant just steps away at the end of the street. Home was super clean and comfortable. If we were to go back to Kyoto we would look to stay here again.
By far the nicest accomodation we stayed at. Place was clean and tidy. Bath was a godsend for tired bodies from all the walking and location was great.
We enjoyed our stay at this location in Kyoto. It was centrally located with plenty of things to walk to and very close to gojo station as well. The place as clean, convenient, and quiet. Staff clearly communicated and made the stay easy. Thank you so much!
I had an absolutely fantastic stay at this property! The family that runs it was incredibly communicative, providing clear and easy directions for arrival and check-in. It seems like it may have been a B&B-style inn at some point, and the space reflects thatâplenty of room, comfortable beds, and a well-equipped kitchen and dining area. For the price, it's truly amazing.I would go out of my way to stay here again when visiting Kyoto. The location is a huge plusâright near Gojo Station, just one stop north of Kyoto Station, making it super convenient for getting around. Higashi Hongan-ji Temple is within easy walking distance, and there's a coffee shop right across the street. A short walk brings you to several restaurants; I tried the Indian restaurant for a change of pace, and it was excellent. The tempura spot next door was good, though a bit overpriced in my opinion.I highly recommend this place and will absolutely be back!
We enjoyed our stay and were comfortable as a group of 8. We would stay here again. It was clean, had everything we needed, and convenient location. The Japanese dessert bar across the street is delicious too.
Weâre a family group travelling with our 20yo children and two of their partners. This home was perfect for our group of 7 adults- and go with ease. Bikes were a hit too. Location excellent with many wonderful walking distance options. Our best accomm and we all just loved Kyoto- stay longer- itâs awesome!two bathrooms, separate toilets, a fun kitchen/dining area made this work well fo us. It was also great to have the code door lock so all can come
Excellent central location. Walkable distance to train station
Cozy little place with all the necessary amenities. Felt very safe (which was the same for all areas of Japan. Quiet neighborhood but close to everything
The house is well located close to Kyoto station and lots of other public transport options to get out an about and explore Kyoto. The house is well appointed, so we could prepare our own meals on some nights. The provision of bikes was also nice. The house doesnt have a TV, but has a tatami room - so it is more of an authentic living experience, which we liked.
Located on a quiet side street, just 10-15 minute walk to the train station and close to a major shrine. Plenty of nearby neighborhood shops and restaurants.
Spotlessly clean and well equipped with kitchen amenities as well as bathroom supplies. Comfortable beds and good air conditioning.
Host was easy to work with and quick to respond to inquiries. One traditional Japanese tatami room in addition to ânormalâ bedrooms.
Great place to stay, safe neighborhood and would recommend.
Property was in excellent condition and had everthing needed for a relaxing stay. Bicycles were a plus! Close to the main street and easy to flag down taxi's as- needed. Convienience stores a close walk. The dryer was inopearable during our stay, however we located a laundrymat within a 2 minute walk. Able to wash/dry a load within 50 minutes. Placed it into a Dryer only machine for an additional 6 minutes and it was fully dry. Excellent accomodations. Highly recommended. There is a sweet shop within 20 feet of the apartments front door, just across the alleyway, for some custom coffee and small treats. Some of the taxi drivers had difficulty finding the apartment, so we ended up taking a photograph of the street sign of a close main road intersection about 2-3 short blocks away. Worked like a charm.
After some minor customization of the rooms with bedding and whatnot, this place suited the needs of three middle-aged travelling colleagues nicely. Great to have two bathrooms and plenty of space to stretch out, and the neo-traditional layout was a nice introduction to the culture. 10 minute walk from the train station, which wasn't an issue as we pack light. Great access to transit and close to cafes and restaurants, and most importantly, Kyoto Beer Lab! Would definitely stay here again.
We had a delightful 3 night stay in this authentic Japanese machiya in January 2024. Communication and check in and out was seamless and the property itself spacious and comfortable. It was located in an excellent position close to shops, cafes and the train station. There were even 3 push bikes provided for our use! It was lovely living for a short time in a true Japanese neighbourhood.
The home was everything that it said it would be. Clean and comfortable. But it is tucked away on a small street. We arrived the first time by taxi from Itami. He was able to take us to the home and made sure we were inside. No need to reserve a taxi as the instructions say, we picked one up at the airport. Great time!
We had a great stay here. There were 6 adults, plenty of space. We rode the free bikes most afternoons around the neighbourhood that was very quiet. Close to supermarket. Easy walk from station with suitcases . Two bathrooms and toilets, adequate bedding. Nice kitchen and dining. Washing machine. Overall very enjoyable.
7 of us stayed comfortably at this property. It is clean, well managed and conveniently located. About a 15 min walk to the train station and a few minute walk to several convince stores, bus stops and Gojo subway station. Communication with the property manager was very good. We would stay here again.
Loved this place. Loved everything about it. Centrally located. Gojo subway entrance minutes away. Close to shopping, street food at the Nishiki Market. 15 minute train ride to the Bamboo Forest, Gion a nice 15 to 20 minute walk.
house was fully equipped. didn't forget anything. Plenty of dishes, cups, glasses. Bathrooms and showers great. Will recommend this place to all my friends that plan on going to Kyoto. Will come back in a couple years for sure. 5 star.
Great location for authentic and wonderful machiya with many comforts of home (washer/dryer, iron, microwave, portable wifi, umbrellas, etc). Great ongoing communication with property manager. A couple differences from online listing (no TV, additional Kyoto daily tax required) but overall great experience and would definitely love to stay again!!
Overall, we were very happy with the house. There was plenty of space for all 5 of us. The location of the house was ideally located to get around Kyoto and subways. The only comment was that the upstairs bathroom sink was leaking and really could not be used although the owner tried to fix it by using tape. It was fun getting hot can coffee from the vending machine across the house.
