We stayed here to do the wine trails for my momâs 60th birthday. The host is available for any questions or concerns and very nice. The pictures of this house do not do it justice. It is spacious and beautiful. We will stay here again in the future if we ever need to. This is a great place for honeymoons, gatherings, and getaways of any kind.
Our family had a wonderful time and the house was even betret than expected! We would love to stay again for a longer time to see other things in the area! The host is top notch
The property is clean and quiet, the owner is very communicative, easy to talk to, and responds quickly to any concerns. We have stayed multiple times and will stay again. The price is good for the area and we donât like hotels.
We are planning on coming back! The location and charm of the home is fabulous. It had everything we needed to host a small graduation celebration. Randy has done a masterful job with the renovations and has everything stocked down to the toothpaste (in case you forget).
The outside space was perfect. From the grill on the patio to the swings to the fire pit, we used it all. Of course the weather cooperating was a big bonus.
Planning a wine tour and some hiking in the future - will definitely try to book "Mary & Snooks" first. Great host and super clean house.

This was a nice place for all of us, but it was not as clean as I was expecting. The mattress pad on the pull out couch was dirty, the tub had dirt and ants crawling on it, and the floors were dirty as well. Overall though that stuff didn't affect our trip that much, we still had a great time and enjoyed our stay.
A beautifully cared for classic farm house that is a perfect getaway. We took advantage of internet connectivity and great hiking locations for a 'working vacation'. The house has everything you need as well as great outdoor spaces. Highly recommend choosing this home and make it yours for as much time as you need! Owner was fantastic.
Much bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. Excellent place to stay. Clean. Comfortable beds. Plenty of room in the kitchen. I would definitely recommend this place as an option for people coming to the area.
We really enjoyed staying in this lovely home. Beds are very comfortable and rooms are cozy. Patio is very nice. Highly recommend staying for southern Illinois adventures.
we enjoyed ourselves hiking at the nearby parks, especially little grand canyon. We visited 6 wineries and enjoyed cooking on the grill as well as a nice bonfire one evening. Very homy!
Hi! We stayed here while moving our kid back to school. Our dates had changed a couple times and Randy was always available. He was in touch on an almost daily basis while we were there, just to see how things were going. It was very quiet and the deer were cool to look at. We loved it and hopefully weâll be back.
We had a nice stay! Be prepared to drive 20+ minutes to get just about anywhere in the area. Randy was great with communication. My only feedback would be that for 4 adults, although very cute, the sliding barn doors in conjunction with the layout didnât provide a ton of privacy.
We loved the house. There was 4 of us who stayed the weekend we had more than enough room and was easily accessible for our friend who is slightly handicapped. It was easy to find, close to town which was nice but still country. We enjoyed the family photos, everything was comfortable and clean. For us it was the perfect fit. We missed enjoying the firepit more because our handicapped friend couldn't handle the walk. The patio took the place of that, so no problem. We recommend this to anyone who has similar interests in the type of house they would like to rent. It is also close to main roads for access to some of wineries if you want to avoid some of the winding country roads. Overall just can't say enough about the house, we are definitely hoping to return soon. Thank you, Karen Raby and friends!
We loved our long weekend at this lovely property! It was close to town but quiet and serene and Randy was a great host! He checked in several times to make sure we had everything we needed! We just loved the place and we will be back:)
Had a good stay, nice house and a great 2 bed with hideabed couch layout! Good place to use grill. Randy was great to check on us and communicate to us.
We really enjoyed staying at this quaint country home. Nice location to our Reunion and family cabins. Randy was a great communicator and in all my travels- I have never been to a better stocked home. The bottle of wine and chocolates was very thoughtful and we couldn't believe the quality of shampoo/ body wash/ soaps and Randy even thought of things like a fancy hotel which eliminated us from having to go to store.
A couple of suggestions- Would encourage switching out the traditional key for a digital door lock...didn't feel fully secure knowing others could easily copy key and have easy access.
And the only thing the owners MUST DO---is put up shutters/ blinds in Master bedroom and bathroom- we were all "on display " and it forced us to change normal behavior- also way too light in room. We wanted to sleep in but could not.
My daughter's really enjoyed the back to nature experience and saw cows, a skunk, deer and an eastern box Turtle and a lot of spiders! đ
I highly recommend Snook and Mary's house-
The pictures of the farm house doesnât do it justice. It is a lovely home in a very private setting. It was well stocked with everything we needed. Close to wineries and the Little Grand Canyon. We loved our stay here and will definitely stay here again.

Great Family comfort!
We had a great time while staying here loved the old farm house charm, even the kids loved the home. They had plenty of space to run around, the loved the swing in the back yard. There were 5-6 dear in the backyard each morning. The only little issue we had was it would of been nice to have curtains on the master bedroom window. We would definitely stay here over and over again!
Very welcoming and amazing. We will be back for sure.
This home was very relaxing and came with everything you needed. The wood work in this home was amazing along with the original wood flooring. The master bed was so
amazing that we wanted to take it home with us. We have already decided to bring the kids when we come back next time. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your amazing home.
Quaint country house on a beautiful rolling hill in Southern Illinois close to the wineries and Carbondale. We stayed here for my nieces graduation from SIU. It was great being away from the crowds in a nice quiet setting. Although we did not take advantage of all this place has to offer- a fire pit, an outdoor picnic area with a grill, and a nice sitting area which would be very relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine, I definitely will when I come back. There are really good restaurants just minutes away in Murphysboro if you choose to eat out. The kitchen is well stocked and the house is tastefully decorated with family pictures of a home well-loved. We will definitely be back!
We had an awesome stay at this wonderful house. The wine and chocolate was a nice touch. Randy was the greatest host. The house was very clean and had everything you could need. Loved everything about it. We wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed more of it. The Wing Family from Lake Charles, Louisiana
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cozy little country home. Beautiful area and the host has stocked the house with just about anything you could need inside and out.
I was born and raised in Murphysboro, Illinois and grew up on the family farm where the weekend rental home is located. I left the area and lived in Alaska for many years while my parents Mary and Raymond (Snooks) remained on the farm. Over the years I joined the Peace Corps and spent time in Honduras 87 to 89 and Ecuador in 01 and 02 working in agriculture programs. While in Alaska I worked as an Assistant Hunting Guide and in the Environmental Cleanup work for both government and private sector engineering firms. Approximately 8 years ago I moved to the Chicago area and 4 years ago I moved back to Murphysboro to help my Mom. I now spend time in both places.
This property was my parents home since the early 40s. A couple of years ago I decided that I wanted to restore and remodel the home. It was partly a labor of love for my parents and I wanted to preserve the home they used to raise me and my 8 other Brothers and Sisters. The home contains many memories and I wanted to share it's peacefulness with others. My Mom and Dad were very welcoming people. Always welcoming visitors, they enjoyed meeting people and hearing about there lives.
I love the home for its history, built in 1870 and the memories of my families time here. This was an active farm for nearly 50 years and my Mom lived here for over 70 years. In the summer there is almost always a breeze, there is almost always a deer walking in the distance, a neighbors cow mooing or a coyote howling.
