Very friendly village , lovely house with wonderful views, helpful owners who live next door.
The house is very spacious and well equipped even with towels and parasols for the beach.
A week is not enough to experience all the area has to offer., you would need at least a year!, I hope we are able to return at some time in the future.
A memorable and happy holiday was enjoyed by all our multi generational family..
We had a great time at the location provided by Hazel. The accomodation is elegant, spacious enough without losing any of it's coziness.
There was a nice booklet made by Hazel to recommend various activities that are abundant in this region.
I would not hesitate a single moment of booking this house again for our vacation. We really enjoyed every single minute.
The children had room to get some of their own privacy and the internet was good enough for them to watch netflix or youtube. But with the weather in the region that was hardly ever needed.
Hazel thank you once more for contributing to our great vacation!
This was our first holiday after the pandemic. We love France and have visited this area before. Our hopes were really high and even with the exceptional temperatures nothing disappointed. Hazel was helpful and on hand when needed. The property was perfect and the views stunning. The village had everything you needed including a small museum, a great bar and a fine dining restaurant. Our son aged 15 had a great time and thatâs probably the best review you can have! We have great memories and hope to come back sometime.x
My Family of 8 and I have chosen Maureillas-Las-Illas for the second time in 3 years for a longer stay - 3 weeks. We find the location ideal to the hiking trails in the mountains, we like the amenities of the village and easy access to larger cities in the area. The owner is very attentive and easy to work with. We could not be happier with our choice.
We absolutely loved Hazel and Ade's house. There was everything we could think of, the large and cosy kitchen even better equipped than our own, the ancient house, being perfecly renovated. We loved the coloful tiles on the floors. A beautiful private garden comes with the house. Parking is no problem close by. There is a grocery store in walking distance that provides everything. Also, a very delicious local restauant is at the end of the street. We loved dining there and being the only tourists. At the house, bedding was very comfortable. Our teenager did not want to leave his huge bed in the top room with the roof terrace. We stayed at 6 vacation homes during our stay and loved this one the most. Hazel and Ade were great hosts. Everything was perfect. We would love to come back! Thank you, Hazel and Ade!
This village home was a perfect place for our family of 8 to spend in the weeks following Christmas. When we arrived, we found the home completely clean and even decorated for the season. We enjoy cooking, and the kitchen had everything we needed to make large family dinners. There was plenty of space to be together and separate spaces to be alone. In winter, we found the porches still usable as it wasn't very cold, and we appreciated the cozy wood burner. And we never tired of the view of the mountains.
The village is quiet in winter, but there was still activity and people about. Our favorite feature of the location was that in only a couple of minutes walking from the house, you could be up a mountain with stunning views or immersed in a cork forest. Maureillas is also an excellent location between the sea and further into the mountains and a short drive to Perpignan.
And finally, Hazel is very thoughtful and attentive. We hope to return!
Had such a wonderful relaxing time in this big village, which has all you need. The house is amazing with views from the two ensuite bedrooms, which canât help but make you feel great! The house is a tardis and exceeded expectations and we spent a lot of time relaxing in the lovely big garden. Quite a few steps- some steep. Hazel makes you very welcome and is on hand if needed and has added lots of lovely touches. The two restaurants in town are good - especially 66.
Lovely house with lots of space inside and out. Spectacular gardens, views with the mountains in the backdrop.
Location close to many places Ceret (10 minute drive) Collioure, Mediterranean coast, plus easy access to Spain (Figueres, Girona and the seaside towns with beautiful beaches).
Cork forest walk and museum in Maureillas-las-Illas.
Our hosts Hazel and Ade were available when needed and responsive.
The home with 4-bedrooms / 3 1/2=bathrooms spread over four floors provides lots of space for groups / families travelling together.
The two terraces are perfect ... one on top floor off the 1st master bedroom suite provided a perfect location for our apero evenings watching the sunset.
Thank you Hazel & Ade.
A lovely old village house with great character, beautifully renovated and decorated by owners Hazel and Ade. Spread out over several floors, all the rooms are spacious, bright and comfortably furnished. It was the perfect place for a family holiday with our two sons, their partners and our 6-month old grandson, as there was lots of separate space and privacy for everyone, along with a well-equipped kitchen, a large living room (with wood-burner that would be lovely in the cooler months) and good places for meals both inside and out. Spectacular views of the gardens and mountains beyond from the two terraces, and a lovely garden that we especially enjoyed with our grandson, who was entranced by the flowers, insects and birds after his first 6 months in wintery western Canada. The owners have thought of many details that are often not found in a gite, such as excellent lighting throughout, good quality appliances, a generous supply of towels for home and beach, an extensive library, beautiful artwork, ample storage space for outdoor clothing and equipment in the downstairs entryway, and a separate laundry area with a very efficient washer. Even the binder full of information for guests is especially well done â we loved the map of the garden showing the location of herbs for picking, and Hazelâs detailed instructions for a walk through the cork forest, which we recommend. Finally, Maureillas is a charming village, located in our favourite part of France. Many thanks to Hazel and Ade for making us feel at home.
Spacious townhouse in a quiet, friendly town.
Our family loved this townhouse. There was room for everyone to spread out. The balancing on the top floor had a great view. The back garden was great and the flowers were in full bloom.
We did a combination of cooking at home and eating out. The house had the basics of what we needed to cook.
A little market as well as a couple restaurants were a quick walk away. The parking was close as well.
We had a great time! Hazel was very welcoming and shared different events going on while we were there.
This is a great house with lots of space and a beautiful garden! Hazel is a perfect host and is available next door. We used the house as our base for trips to the coast as well as to the mountains. The village has a number of good restarants, a bakery and a very good super market.
Lovely village base in an area where there is masses to do!
The house was exactly as we had imagined from the photos, light & airy rooms, very comfortable and well-equipped, perfect for a really relaxing holiday. Beautiful view of the mountains from the rear of the property, and a lovely garden. The village was surprisingly lively, lots of evening entertainment, and has adequate amenities for day to day needs. Advisable to have a car as so much to do in the immediate area and beyond. We enjoyed the swimming lake (10 mins drive) and the lovely beaches at Argeles and St Cyprien (25 mins drive); we also visited some interesting towns and villages up in the mountains to see some history of the area. We stayed 17 days but feel there is so much more we could do - would be great to go back some time. Highly recommended for a family stay!
Very peaceful location with a well appointed house. It is south facing with lots of sun and a lovely terrace area and garden to sit in and enjoy a glass of wine or cook some food. Everything you need is in the kitchen and bedrooms are large and very nice. Lovely en suite bathrooms and nice showers. Hazel was a great host and made us very welcome. We enjoyed the area and the people were very friendly. We will certainly be returning very soon. Thank you Hazel for making us feel so welcome.
A wonderful, generously proportioned French village house.
We were a party of six - grandparents, parents and two children of 4 and 1. The house and garden pleased everyone. The house was well furnished and equipped with a lovely family kitchen where we started each day with croissants from the local boulangerie - a choice of two with minutes of the gite and both equally good.
The view of the Pyrenees from the upper floors was spectacular. We ( the grandparents) would spend a quiet hour on our balcony mesmerised by the fabulous panorama, after a morning enjoying the myriad of 'must do' activities our host introduced us to.
Hazel was a superb host, who aimed to ensure that we had a memorable holiday with all home comforts into the bargain, which indeed it was.
Our thanks to Hazel . Hope to see you in the near future, if our regular trips to DC to see our gorgeous granddaughters don't soak up our entire holiday budget!
28 Rue des Aires was the perfect headquarters and cozy nest for our family gathering of my wife, two daughters, son, and one significant other. Perfect bed and bath setup. All of the rear-facing rooms have their own versions of sunny backyard and mountain views. An unexpected bonus were the back gardens lovingly developed and maintained by our hosts, Hazel and Aid, who live in the adjoining house. We walked the streets of Maureillais for morning pastries, evening wine, and for the sheer pleasure of it. We enjoyed trails accessible from the house. Our daughter and her boyfriend ran on trails to meet us at the busy diverse Saturday market in Ceret. A day at the beach was 30 minutes away as was another day higher in the mountains. A perfect house in every way. We'd return in a heart beat and hope that we do.
We were a party of seven and the house was surprisingly roomy. The back garden is lovely for lunches in the sunshine. The pictures don't do justice to the views from the back balconies. Watching the sun set behind Mt. Canigou is magical! The location on the border with Spain made it a straightforward drive from Barcelona airport. There is excellent access to shopping, historic Roman and Greek sites, the Mediterranean, hill walks, and, for the train spotters, the narrow gauge Train Jaune. We had a wonderful week!
We loved staying in this Maureillas village house! The owners were both helpful throughout the booking process and welcoming when we arrived. It's perfect for a relaxing stay in the foothills of the French Pyrenees and being so close to Perpignan, Collioure and Spanish Costa Brava, there are no shortage of things to do. Of course, you can always put your feet up and admire the mountain views from the lovely back garden, or try one of the village bars/restaurants for some real Catalan hospitality. Please can we come back again?

Hello, I'm Hazel and I have been living in Maureillas for the past 10 years, making the move from Manchester to a sunnier climate. When the opportunity came up to buy and restore another lovely traditional French village home I jumped at the chance and, after a couple of years hard labour, itâs great to welcome new guests to experience this fantastic place. I have rented lots of houses for my own holidays, learning loads along the way about what makes a good home for both family vacations and group getaways. Iâve kept all this in mind whilst renovating and I'm really happy with the results, come and see for yourself!
Maureillas is a traditional, friendly village with everything we need for day to day living. Ideally situated between the Med and mountains we enjoy an outdoor lifestyle making the most of the reputed 300 days of sunshine a year.
The house is located in the heart of the village, the shops and bars are a two minute stroll away. The south facing terraces provide perfect sun traps for enjoying the winter sunshine while the shady garden provides a cool retreat during the hotter months. The large and airy rooms ensure that everyone will feel comfortable to spread out without getting on top of each other.
