The property was excellent. The swimming pool was perfect for our needs. The gift basked was most welcome. The property had everything we needed. At night it was humid in rooms and air con or a fan would have been nice. Highly recommend this villa.
Fantastic villa in a lovley Portuguese village. We stayed for 13 nights (myself, parnter and two daughters) villa was exceptionally clean and well equipped with everything we needed.
Lovely touch with a welcome pack on arrival.
Great booking process and communication before and throughout our stay.
We visited Luz, Lagos and Burgau during our stay using Ubers to get about. Lagos zoo is well worth the visit and only 10 mins drive.
The only issue was the villa at the back of the property is currently being renovated so was quite noisy at times during the week. Obviouly this cannot be helped and we didnt let it spoil our holiday.
Would highly recommend this property for a relaxing family holiday.

Fantastic holiday! :-)
We recently stayed at the villa in Almadena and had a lovely time. The villa was very clean and well presented. We received a welcome pack upon arrival. A cleaner came half way through the week to clean the villa and the pool was also cleaned during our stay.
Mr and Mrs Ketteringham were very helpful from day one. This was the first time we have been to Portugal and loved Almadena, a very small local friendly town, with a mini market and local amenities.. There is a lovely pub located in the village called Brodies, that we ate at twice.. Burgau is within walking distance, Burgue a local fishing village with a fantastic sandy beach... We travelled to Praia da Luz, which is just a 10 minutes drive.. again great beaches and restaurants.. We traveled by bus.. there is a bus stop in Almadena and only cost 8 euros for all 5 of us to travel on.. The bus's are pretty regular and easy to use..
We are very keen to visit again and stay at Mr and Mrs Ketteringham's villa and have already enquired for a longer stay in 2019!
Highly recommend all! :-)
Firstly I would like to thank Mr Ketteringham to allow us to have a holiday in his villa.I was very disappointed that the bedding was not changed as agreed.I was of the impression that a welcome pack would be there on arrival. If it should have been,it was not there. Our gas ran out on the 3rd day, which was dealt with on the same day. However perhaps that should not have happened,as the system was a two bottle sytem,so that when one bottle is empty it should be changed whilst the other bottle is being used. These comments are purely for the benefit of the owner..Regards,Gordon Kendrick
Hello We have owned this property for over 20 years and it has been the destination of many family holidays over the years. Our children came to regard Portugal as a second home and had many friends there, particularly in Salema where, as teenagers, they enjoyed the bars and restaurants and we, as parents, never had to worry about them out alone in the evening. We enjoyed the beaches at Salema and slightly further afield at Zavial and on the west coast. We loved the restaurants by the sea but the barbecue and garden enabled us to eat at home as a family and we enjoyed the shopping at local markets for those meals. The weather in Portugal is such that we eat almost all our meals outdoors from March to November and now that we are retired we are better able to visit throughout that period.
We bought this house after 10 years of owning an apartment in Salema. After all those years we had come to love the Western Algarve for the weather, beaches, food, and friendliness of the people. We felt at home there. It was easy to get to Faro airport early in the morning, pick up a car and be in Almadena for a late lunch! (Now that the motorway serves the Algarve it is only an hour from the airport). We also love to walk in spring and the autumn (when the weather is still good but a little cooler) and visit the inland areas such as Monchique and Silves. Almadena is quiet and takes us away from crowds. Even in August we can choose whether to go to a vibrant buzzy place or a quiet destination. Sometimes we go for a long week-end sometimes 4 weeks. We always return refreshed.
Almadena is a typical Portuguese village making an ideal spot to base your holiday, it's small with a shop. bars and restaurants for any immediate needs. The garden and pool give you immediate access to enjoyment of the weather. You will need a car to explore the glories of the Algarve coast and the inland areas. Busy Lagos is an attractive destination to shop and eat and is about 15 minutes away by car. It also has lots of attractions suitable for the family, boat trips etc. If you have children, try the water parks such as Slide and Splash, a little further along the coast. There are several attractive golf courses all close by. As the house sleeps 6 people and has three bathrooms we never feel on top of one another; the spacious living areas give us all plenty of space to chill out
