Lovingly hand-built by craftsmen from locally sourced solid Douglas Fir logs, and with fittings of English Oak, its spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area with vaulted ceiling and massive timber trusses and access to two balconies. Its relaxing and tranquil atmosphere is enhanced by its large garden and location in the woodlands and lakes of Pentney and the charm of rural West and North Norfolk. The spa area houses a sauna, steam room and treatment room in addition to the hot tub, all exclusively for Fir Lodge guests only.
Amazing, spacious, comfortable & relaxing Lodge.
Bigger than imagined
The story behind the building of the Lodge & the care & attention to the contents conveys personally to guests & our family loved the whole atmosphere.
Plenty of everything you need for everyone & the 2 sofa beds in upstairs area are positioned well so they do not interfeer spacewise into the rest of the room & there are still 4 other sofas in the main lounge area so no need to re-arrange the room each morning or evening .
We would all love to stay at the Lodge again.
A beautiful lodge, not often do you get to stay in a solid log cabin! It's enormous inside, very inviting and lots of space, the hot tub is a great luxury.
It's a little bit of a drive to get anywhere but the seclusion is nice.
Communication with the owner was great and quick.
A few niggly little things that if changed would make it exceptional but did not affect the holiday at all. Would definitely stay again
I have a background in commercial forestry, building and rigging and normally to be found stage building out on a festival or concert site throughout the busy summer months. The 2012 Olympics is keeping me busy too (as a rigger rather than athlete!). I also have a great interest in the building of log cabins and a passion for ensuring locally sourced high quality materials and ensuring that traditional techniques for constructing these beautiful buildings continue to be used. For me building my own log cabin was the perfect way to combine all these things. The cabin is built using the "full scribe technique" where all the logs are peeled and cut by hand using the finest Douglas Fir sourced locally. The cabin was built entirely in a yard off-site and then moved and built at Pentney.
The peace and tranquility experienced everyday at Pentney Lakes makes it a very special place. The changing seasons offer beautiful landscapes at the lakes, and the sheer amount of wildlife on the lakes will appeal to all. In the winter youy will be guaranteed a "flypast" several times daily from the flocks of geese that winter at the lakes.
The relaxed nature at the lakes make it quite unrivalled, and waking up in Fir Lodge is a real joy, especially if you live in a city environment. We are close enough to make use of the facilities of a busy market town (Kings Lynn) and nearby tourist attractions, yet remote enough to feel like you are away from it all.
Fir Lodge cannot be compared to other log cabins. Due to the hand crafted nature of the logs used you find every wall and detail others something beautiful. The burrs on the logs on the wall by the bottom of the stairs, and the swirls in the english oak on the stair ballustrading are simply beautiful, to name a few.
Throughout the changing seasons the logs themselves will slightly expand and contract, often making faint noises. It really makes you feel asthough you are residing in a living breathing home.
