Rachel's property is wonderful! We are just a family of three, but the heated pool was an enticement at the end of long days, so we booked it. The pool was cleaned twice a week and seemed to stay at 85 degrees. The pool area is amazing. Plenty of very nice loungers, sitting areas, a bathroom and shower. We liked it so much that we ended up spending two different days out of our week at home. :) The photos are very accurate and the house is very large. The view is simply amazing from the villa. Check-in and check-out went very smoothly, no problems at all, and no unexpected fees. This was our first trip to Italy, so I sent many emails with questions regarding the villa and the area before we left home. Rachel was quick to answer and always handled every email extremely professionally! We would definitely stay here again!
Casa Matira is beautifully situated near the top of tree-lined rolling hills above the village of Spedalicchio not far from Umbertide. The villa is a thoughtful re-imagined and brilliantly restored old farmhouse that remains true to its origins. In the generous grounds there is a swimming pool with its pool-house and patio that includes a wood-fired pizza oven providing the amenities enjoyed by all ages. If you are so inclined there are many places of interest to visit within one or two hours driving. Our family gathering of three generations thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at the villa and each one of us would return given the opportunity to again sample its special charm.

Fabulous
The perfect holiday house for a large family and little ones. We were a 3 generation party of 8 adults and three children under 3 so finding somewhere to suit us all that was safe for little ones was no mean task. As soon as I found Casa Matira I knew it was the one and after my first communication with Rachel, the owner, I knew that we would be more than happy - she reassured me at every step, answered all my queries with detailed information and made me feel that she really wanted us to be totally satisfied with our holiday week. The house itself is spacious, fabulously appointed, very well equipped, tastefully furnished and very well cared for. Everything has been thought of; from the countless toys, books, dressing up clothes and swings for the children....to the pool table, table tennis table, BBQ, shaded seating areas, comfortable sun loungers, high spec kitchen and bathrooms and a fabulous heated pool which is fenced off with a double bolt and therefore totally safe for wandering children. The house manager Antonella is delightful and available by phone immediately to help with any questions. The day after we arrived a huge basil plant was delivered, the stair gate fitted and a bucket swing assembled for our tiny one....so thoughtful. The new pool house is a great addition providing resting time out of the sun.
The views are spectacular, the area well served with local restaurants and shops less than 5 miles away..... a 20 min drive down a bumpy road but that is no price to pay for the secluded paradise that Casa Matira provides (we sent the men to do the food shopping whilst we ladies had some pool time!)
I cannot fault this beautiful house, we will definitely return.
Beautiful location. Comfortable and thoughtful accommodations and amenities.
We were an extended family of 10, ages 8 to 74. Everyone loved the house, the large pool, the fabulous views. We were greeted with house manager Antonella who was accommodating in every way. The house is ten minutes from paved roads, but only fifteen or twenty from good restaurants, food shops, etc. Expectations created by website and description are met and exceeded. All of our party would highly recommend Casa Matira.
We had a wonderful holiday and the beautiful house and views far exceeded our expectations.
It was the perfect spot for a relaxing family holiday and the safely fenced off pool was great as we had little children with us. The accommodation was spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. Beautiful historic towns like Perugia and Assisi were within easy reach and we loved the whole area.
A real treat of a week with my family! This property is in a very special position on the top of a hill with breathtaking views. The farmhouse has been beautifully and very tastefully restored and offers clean, spacious accommodation with extremely comfortable beds, lovely linen, plenty of bathrooms and elegant dining and lounging areas. The kitchen is a proper "cooks" kitchen with all the culinary equipment you might need and it conveniently opens out onto the terrace where we enjoyed all our meals (and cocktails!) overlooking the view. It was also brilliantly equipped for the children - inside is a great playroom/TV room with loads of DVD's & toys and there is all the usual baby stuff you could need - they had even supplied bath toys & bath seat! Outside the properly fenced large pool was heavenly - very pretty, a nice big ledge where the young ones could paddle, loads of sun loungers and no horrible chlorine!! Garden swings and games too. Locally we enjoyed some really memorable Italian food - both informal (fab family pizza/pasta places) as well as more formal but relaxed Italian dining at its best at the local Wine Bar and Agritourismo. (Antonella the house manager found us a lovely babysitter during our stay). There is also a really good "Coop" supermarket in Umbertide with impressive deli and bakery etc which was invaluable for provisions. I would highly recommend this property for either families or large adult parties.
My wife and I were in the house for 9 nights, two nights overlapping with members of our family and a week with a group of our own friends.
The property is beautifully equipped, was exteremely clean, and is noticeably well maintained. It is spacious and comfortable with a a swimming pool of a perfect size. We would certainly highly recommend Casa Matira to Family and Friends. Indeed all our guests were full of praise.
Casa Matira provided me and my family the best two week vacation of our lives. How much fun to drive a few kilometers straight up a mountain and arrive to a gorgeous stone villa and the breathtaking views of Tuscany. The interior is designed and decorated with a refined eye for quality and detail -- comfortable beds, a spacious, well-appointed kitchen that opens onto a lovely covered dining area, a surfeit of big, comfortable bathrooms that would humble the finest hotel -- Casa Matira offers the perfect combination of personal and elegant. The house also has a large pool with perfect temperature salt water that's always refreshing but never too cold, and a game-room for families that includes a pool table, tv, dvd player, cd's and dvd's. The bedrooms are so comfortable and there's zero sense that the house is a rental (none of the skimping on beds and couches one can find in rental properties). But hands-down the best part of Casa Matira is it's setting in the remote hills of the peaceful countryside. This is a don't-miss property and the owners and caretaker are relaxed and extremely accommodating (wine and food upon our arrival despite specifically not requesting it). The transition back to city living was particularly painful!
