Delightful to have our own pool and we got better at the uphill walk to the town by the end of our stay, enjoying dinners outside and bargaining at the Tuesday clothes market.
Lovely, characterful, and well equipped old house. Lots of comfortable and beautiful places to relax, inside and outside the house. We enjoyed the pool, the garden, the walk into Vence, and the wine left for our arrival! Really charming! Local tips: had a very special dinner at La Table du Cantemerle, which is very nearby, and a lovely lunch at Cote Jardin in Vence. We also walked up to the Source of the Riou, which was a hairy drive to get to the parking, but a beautiful spot. We came to Vence to see the Chapelle Matisse, which we were able to walk to, and was worth the trek across the valley.
The location was very good and allowed walking into the town quite easily and also to access other villages was straight forward and in easy reach.
The setting of the property was ideal for a family, with the play area and pools for the children and adults alike and lots of space for family barbeques and eating.
We had a relaxing stay at the Old Stone Bastide. The house is large and had plenty of rooms for us and our two kids. We were even able to use the pool a little in late Oct. The house is located on a grounds of a large condo complex, but we never noticed it. The furnishings are quaint and as the owner describes. Their property manager was very helpful too. Beautiful garden and patio to sip coffee or wine on.
Lou Paradou-fulfilled all our dreams, aspirations, and plans during our 3 - week stay in August 2024.
This is a special and spacious place for family and friends to gather and enjoy the beauty of the Villa and the privacy the surrounding grounds afford,. It is very well equipped with everything you need and has a beautiful full size pool that adults and children relished.
This is our third visit to Vence over the years and has become a real favourite with family and friends-particularly Lou Paradou! There is much to do and see and is such an inspirational place to live, eat out and relax in the beauty of the whole area.
Many thanks to Elizabeth and David for being excellent hosts both before and during our stay.
With best wishes from Macfarlane family.
The property is wonderful - very comfortable, interesting, and spacious, and very French (ie chic, lovely pictures of the cote d'azur, outside tables). It also has lovely additions including a decent sized private pool, a table tennis table, plenty of parking.
Two other points: the location is superb, within easy reach of Vence, St Paul de Vence, Nice and the cote d'azur; and the contact with owners David and Elisabeth, and their housekeeper Francoise, was easy and welcoming. Thank you so much!
We had a fabulous time exploring this part of France, and that was definitely helped by having this wonderful home to base ourselves from. The region is just glorious with lots to do including gully bashing/rock caving, visiting medieval villages, history and of course lots of opportunities to swim. The house itself is very comfortable, is obviously well loved and has a lovely French charm to it. The pool was excellent and we spent hours in there. Its a great size and perfect for larger groups too. We walked into Vence every day for breakfast and dinner (don't miss the almond craqalin - its incredible!) and although it is up a slight hill, its a super easy walk - absolutely no issue for younger kids too. The hosts were so kind, attentive and really helpful. They went out of their way to provide us with information about local bus routes and things to do, and were just all round lovely - thank you for helping make our stay really easy and that extra bit special. Le Clerc Supermarket was a 4 min drive away, and had everything you needed for self catering purposes. There is also a petrol station 1 min away. We would absolutely recommend this place, and would love to come back ourselves one day when we next visit this amazing part of France.
We had a simply fantastic time in this utterly charming villa! The property is maintained to a very high standard, with a fully equipped kitchen and extensive swimming pool. It's close proximity ( easy and pleasant walk) to Vence and other surrounding areas make this house a real gem! Clearly a property much loved by it's owners, whom we found almost as charming as their villa! We really do hope to return. Thank you again.
We absolutely loved our stay in Vence. The house was spacious and cool, even in the summer heat. The pool especially was a highlight of our trip for my teenage kids. The town of Vence was a short walk away for morning coffee and croissants, exploring the food markets and eating great meals at any of the restaurants. We hope we can visit again someday.
Beautiful home with a wonderful pool and great living spaces. A very nice walk into Vence from the property. It was a great place for us to spend a short week.

Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous ĂȘtes reçu par David and Elisabeth Hulme
David, now retired, was in project management in the oil and gas industry designing and building refineries and gas plants all over the world. Elisabeth is a secondary school maths teacher having originally working in the oil and gas industry which is where we met. Elisabeth quit working in engineering in 1981to bring up our son who is now a solicitor in Oxford. We live in Buckland Commom, one of the hilltops villages in the Chilterns. Elisabeth is a keen horse rider and keeps her horse in stables within 2 minutes walk from the house which we moved into 3 years ago after 33 years in our last house. Our son and his family live 10 minute away so we often get see them. They also love France and have had several holidays with us in Lou Paradou where our grandsons loves playing in the pool.
We bought our first property in Vence in January 2001. This was a 600 year house in the centre of the old town (Cite Historique) which was on 6 floors! It was wonderful living the old town but we wanted a house with a garden and swimming pool. The most important feature however was that it had to be in easy walking distance (5 to 10 minutes) of the old town which we love. In 2004 we found the ideal property which met all our criteria and we moved into Lou Paradou in August 2005. Vence is a beautiful Provencal town with bars, bistros and restaurants weekly markets and festivals. We also love this area because you are in close proximity to the sea. Monaco, Nice and Cannes are all an easy drive away and you can drive to Cagnes sur Mer (our closest beach) in 15 minutes.
