My daughter and I had a lovely weekend break in Longnor. The cottage was perfectly situated, a cafe and a shop on your doorstep. Unfortunately the pub was closed, hopefully not permanently. Itâs an excellent location for walks as well as visiting other villages and Buxton. Cottage was very welcoming, would be nice if there were some wine glasses and more of a selection of knives for cooking but overall we were pleased with everything.
Lovely period homely property with courtyard garden right on the square in Longnor, well located for all the major market towns like Buxton and Bakewell and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Store for milk etc and chip shop very handy. Proprietor was welcoming, informative and provided some nice touches. Looking forward to staying again.
Lovely area but would not stay at this property again
We had a lovely stay at this cottage, the location was great and local people were very friendly. The cottage was basic and a little worn but we had everything we needed for our stay. Whilst we enjoyed our stay it was ruined by a rushed check-out by the owner who was rude and abrupt. We were having breakfast at the cafe next door (highly recommend) when the owner arrived asking us to remove our dogs from the property even though we had another 10 minutes before our check out time. For this reason we would not stay at this specific property again but would stay in another in the local area.
My daughter and I have never had this sort of short break, we packed everything needed to stay in a âhome awayâ..... we need not of bothered. Everything was there to the minute detail, even milk in the fridge. The cottage was perfect, lovely location a short drive from all we needed. I hit my head three times on the low ceiling upstairs and the floorboards we very creaky......Iâd expect nothing less. It really was a home from home, highly recommended...... the only downside, and Iâm being pedantic, was the fish and chip shop, bad customer service and soggy chips with soggier batter on the fish.....still finished them off though! The corner shop had everything you need but I only needed to visit once, for a paper...... I canât thank the owners enough for the obvious thoughtfulness they put in to make us feel welcome. If in doubt, do it.......just like the title says.....you will not be disappointed with this property.
Fabulous property, full of character and the little additional extras on arrival were a lovely touch. Great location to get round the Peak District. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Bank House is right in the middle of Longnor and couldn't be nearer to the great little shop (local bread as well as lots of essentials, papers. etc.). We were there over Christmas and were lovely and warm and cosy, didn't actually need the log-burner. It's a very practical place with lots of space for boots and coats (over a radiator so they dry out!) and the kitchen has everything you need for straightforward cooking - we did bring some things as we wanted to make sure our Christmas dinner was easy to cook, but didn't need most of them. The bedrooms are large and have comfy beds and plenty of space for clothes. There is very hot water, making washing-up a pleasure! We did lots of short walks, some direct from Longnor, e.g., to Chrome and Parkhouse Hills, or to Pilsbury Castle, and also drove a few miles to walk in Dovedale - level, dry walking - but busier. Buxton is totally worth a visit, with great architecture and lots of good shops (but do use Longnor's General Store and Post Office - which also has bread, veg., etc.). We felt really at home and will definitely think about coming again in a year or two.
We stayed at the cottage in August and would recommend staying there. We had two days of lovely walks and after a long day it was lovely calling into 'The Grapes' for a pint and sitting in the sun.
The cottage had everything we needed, the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans etc and the beds were very comfortable. Recommend the village Fish and Chip shop.
The cottage is small but has everything you'd need for a short or longer stay. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The kitchen has everything you'd need and the living room has comfy sofas. The village is very pleasant and the fish and chip shop was excellent. An ideal location for us for our visit to Chatsworth and to see around the area.
Great position with small shop one side and nice cafe on tbe other. Two pubs in village. Central for tourist hot spots and beautiful countryside.
Excellent walks directly from cottage.
Comfortable cottage excellent for our requirements.
You donât have to venture far for wonderful days out. Whether it be walking on the local footpaths or driving just a few miles for other attractions.
The cottage itself was clean, well equipped and some lovely touches, milk and a ready laid fire should it be required.
The cafe next door very welcoming and a well stocked village shop.
I would stay here again
Dog friendly accomodation Ideally located for local amenities and walks
A comfortable accomodation ideally located for exploring the Derbyshire dales. Shops and pubs on your doorstep and dog friendly.
Good communication with owner and friendly locals. Would suit people looking for practical rather than luxury accomodation.
A lovely cottage in the heart of the Peak District
This is a fantastic cottage - really good value. Cosy, well equipped. We had a lovely stay. Longnor is a small, picturesque village right in the heart of the Peak District - with a choice of pubs, a village shop and a Post Office. I'd definitely stay here again.
We loved staying in longnor. It had just what we wanted- wonderful countryside to explore, Buxton was just twenty mins drive and the cottage was warm and cosy.
My wife and I had a wonderful break in this lovely cottage. It really does have everything you need, with some lovely touches like a pint of milk and some chocolate snacks!
The cottage has so much character and the village has great facilities, as well as being a gateway to some lovely walks. We couldn't have been happier with our stay!
We arrived on a dreary day in October, the heating was on and the fire already laid, lovely!
The house was so warm with the central heating we didn't even need to light the fire, despite the temperature outside dropping.
Really well equipped, comfy bed, massive master bedroom, lovely and quiet even though it's right on the market square.
Location was fabulous, shop right next door open from 7am - 6pm every day.
Free parking was a bonus and now the cottage has wi-fi, what more can you ask for?
Thank you!
Lovely cottage with all necessary facilities to enjoy your stay
Had a great time the surrounding countryside is beautiful, there are plenty of cafe tea rooms and pubs in close proximity. A short drive away there are several small towns if you enjoy shopping. Would highly recommend.
This cottage is a little gem in one of the friendliest villages in a stunning location. It's full of charm and character and felt like home from home. It's very dog friendly with tiled/wooden floors that are easy to clean, especially after a long walk when boots and paws have got a bit muddy. We particularly loved the stable backdoor (can open top half only if you want) and so did the dog!
The shop and cafe next door are lovely and really handy. We had the best fish and chips we've had in a long time from the fish shop in the village. The pub serves some nice ales and everywhere is dog friendly. We have a big dog and she was welcomed everywhere. There are some great walks from the village and within a short drive away. Morrisons supermarket is in Buxton if you want to do a larger shop, although the village shop was very well stocked with everything you might need.
We had the pleasure of meeting Karen when she needed to adjust the new boiler that had been installed the day before. The cottage is very clean and very warm, the welcome arrival package of tea, coffee, biscuits and milk was much appreciated after a long drive. As the October weather was sunny and very warm we did lots of walking. We did find some time to visit Leek, Buxton and Bakewell. All very nice towns although we found Bakewell to be a busy tourist place with prices to match.
Wifi has been added which was a nice bonus - we didn't have any phone signal despite being with O2, for us it wasn't a problem as it's nice to get away from it all. Phone signal just outside of the village is good.
It was a pleasure to meet Karen and to stay in Longnor. We are looking forward to returning sometime next year as it was really peaceful and relaxing. Thank you Karen for a wonderful stay.
A great place to bring your pets. Walks straight from the front door. Pubs also on the doorstep for relaxing in the evening without the worry of driving. Some of the best cycling areas in the Peak District. Wood burning stove (and central heating) for those cosy evenings. Longnor is a thriving small village with 2 pubs, 2 cafes (one right next door) and a fish and chip shop.
