Like some reviewers before me, I also feel compelled to give my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the owners for sharing their beach home with us. I also appreciated the art and artists who made the beautiful artwork here. I spent as much time taking in Nicollette Smith's art as I did the ocean! I took pictures of some of my favorite works by her before I left. The rest of the beach house was 100% wonderful from the location to the views.
We had a wonderful trip to Dillon Beach. We had great weather and spent many hours at the beach each day searching for sea glass and tide pooling. Our family was very comfortable with West Haven and the location and views could not be beat. We are all looking forward to booking again!
Property was very clean however due to the storm, the power went out and we did not get to stay the whole time. It got too cold. Not the owners fault by any means, an act of nature.
We celebrated yet another 70th Birthday. What a beautiful place to be. Relaxing to waves crashing. The views are amazing. Sunsets, awesome. Hard to have a bad time when youâre at the ocean!
This was our second time at this property. The view/ location canât be beat. We were there with 2 young boys and a dog and it worked great for us. The kitchen functions well. The furnishings are funky and comfy and I fussy. We hope to be back again soon.
We absolutely LOVED this home. Everything about it is fabulous (I think the oven temp might be off a bit, but then, I'm not known for my cooking). Anything you need is supplied - towels, TP, etc. The views are amazing, the game room was a blast and the beds are more comfy than one would normally expect in a vacation rental. I'd highly recommend, except I want to be able to go back and I don't want others hogging it! We had a fabulous time.
We had the best time ever. Most awesome views, the ocean being right there to hear the crashing waves. Beautiful sunsets. The deer being all around, especially at sunrise and sunset. The house had so much character. Very special home. Thank you so much for sharing!
We had a wonderful long winter weekend with our family here. The location and views from the house are incredible, as the house is perched right at the ocean with vistas to the north and south. These views are among the most amazing Iâve visited across California over three decades. We also kept our windows cracked at night to hear the breaking surf. Wonderful. The home is really cool; unique and eclectic with bright, colorful walls and all manner of art everywhere you look. Lots of books, homemade beach art, casual furniture in the main room. A casual beach house vibe. The furniture, beds, and kitchen equipment have been lived in for awhile. This wouldnât be a great fit for someone who needs new things and a super crisp and simple aesthetic. It worked wonderfully for our multi generation family. Oh, and the path two doors up from the house goes to Dillon Beach and stops along rock overviews on the way. Such a bonus to have that access! We loved it and are so thankful this house is available for people to visit.
The deck overlooking the ocean is the best feature of this house. You have a clear view of Dillon Beach to the left where you can see the surfers and other beach goers. Straight out and to the right of the house it is open ocean with nothing blocking any of the view. Kids liked the ping pong table, hot tub downstairs and boogie boarding and surfing at the beach. I liked relaxing and exploring the area with my dog. A couple friends came out for part of the week and we especially enjoyed morning coffee and sundown cocktails on the deck. The refrigerator was a bit dirty and had a lot of leftover food from the previous guest. Other than that the house was clean and comfortable. Beds are firm as stated in other reviews but we got used to it.
While the house itself is not one of the new, modern architectural marvels that are scattered throughout the Dillon Beach community, the location, the view, and the orientation of the huge picture windows and views from the wrap around deck are pretty hard to beat. I haven't been in the other beach front homes overlooking the beach and the bay, and I'll concede that some may have roughly the same view, but I cannot imagine how any could have a better view. There is adequate space iin the house for a large group, with multiple bedrooms and three bathrooms available. The decor is eclectic, so prepare yourself for a large dose of Mexican and maybe even some Central and South American art. I was a little overwhelmed at first, but it grew on me, particularly the use of Mexican tiles. There was even a book on Mexican tiles on one of the bookshelves, which I perused, but needed to spend a little more time with. I had a sense that there were many fasciating family treasures and memories if the walls could talk, and I hope we will have the opportunity to return for future family retreats of our own. This house definitely rates 5 stars from me!
We really enjoyed our stay and would book again but have a few minor suggestions. Itâs a little odd to find other peoples belongings - some food items in fridge including prescription eye medications, and personal toiletries in the bathrooms and drawers. Some more comfortable beds would be nice too (they were really hard!). Furnishings adequate but pretty dated. But these minor things can be overlooked given the stunning deck and view! Those were unbeatable! So awesome to prepare meals in the kitchen and see the water and hear the waves while looking out the kitchen window and seeing deer saunter by!
FYI. The trail 2 houses down IS challenging as described but I am 48 and overweight and I was able to handle it with minimal struggle. And it was worth it!
Location is excellent for enjoying the beach and the trail nearby is quite fine for most but the elderly or very small children. There is a lot of space in the house and the large balcony overlooking the ocean is a spectacular spot for breakfast.
Things that could be improved: bedding and linens seem old and very used, and even though there are many beds, none are comfortable. I think this could be an easy upgrade that would elevate the experience by a lot. There are also things that are broken and duct taped together⊠like the rail on the top bunk (scary - kids didnât want to sleep there) and parts of the fridge.
The house is quirky for sure. There is a lot of art, a lot of light, and you can hear the ocean from everywhere. And even with its outdated sleeping accommodations, it was lovely.
Another note on the location. This area is essentially a beach vacation community. There isnât anything else to do nearby. The general store is very overpriced and limited - we regretted not bringing the basic groceries with us. The town of Tomales 10 mins away has a little more to it (good bakery and coffee) but thatâs about it.
Dillions Beach is a family vacation spot and we found this lovely home via serch on VRBO. The home and its views are second to none and the owners are fantastic.
The house was warm and fun with all the decor. The view was incredible! Hard to beat sitting on a deck with unobstructed views of the ocean and beach. Listing and pictures are accurate. Great home! My family had a lot of fun staying here.
This home felt like my long lost family cabin. Art and crafts everywhere. I love the eclectic feeling throughout. Very well thought out and put together. And you can feel the residual love of the owners radiating from the walls. Thank you for letting us share it! What a wonderful memory!
This house is obviously well-loved by the owners and their family, but the house is not well-kept. Thank goodness for the deck, the view, and the waves. which are five star. The house smelled strongly of mold when we arrived. Even though we took over an hour to air it out and left windows open, the smell never completely stopped. I had to use an asthma inhalers all three days we were there. The art and collectibles are wonderful and fun. But the furniture, carpets, and rugs are tattered and dirty. The living room has two futons, a day bed, and a chair. All but the chair face AWAY from the spectacular views and are quite uncomfortable for sitting. The kitchen was very poorly equipped in terms of pots and pans. Some items had to be re-washed before we could use them. The curtains throughout the living room are dirty and stained. The bed in the master bedroom was okay to sleep on. We didn't use the other ones because we were only two people. After we booked, we learned that we had to bring our own sheets and towels because of the drought and covid. Having to bring sheets was not a thrill! Nor the cleanup after we got home. I would have appreciated this information BEFORE we booked. With some tender loving care, a deep cleaning, good living room furniture, and clean rugs, the house could be a winner. But right now, it seems dingy, slightly dirty, and very moldy.
Gorgeous location, access to a fantastic beach, the kitchen is well-appointed. Everyone from the 6 year old to the 73 year old loved it. Relaxed and fun decor. We hope to be back.
We keep coming back to this rental property because of the beach front location, size of the house, & hot tub overlooking the ocean. Dillon Beach is such a sleepy town, & we love feeling safe enough to leave the window open at night to listen to the crashing waves. Saw lots of deer by the house & whales at Bodega Head. Since we went in the spring, the hills were a glorious green peppered with farm animals. Loved walking along the shore to Lawson's Landing, as did the dogs enjoy being off leash & running freely. It's always great to come here to refresh & rejuvenate.
The location of this property is perfect for a northern California beach experience. The views of the ocean and beach are unobstructed and spectacular. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, with easy beach access. This house is interesting, quirky and mostly fun. It also needs a good cleaning, new mattresses, new shower enclosures and some plumbing repairs. Of course, after doing that the rental rate would increase. On balance, a very good experience.
pets allowed with permission. on your reservation request please include description of pet. and when requesting a reservation please include numbers of guests and ages of children. thanks.
chosen as one of the primo settings on the coast--just gazing at the views is an astounding experience. Sitting in the warmth of the hot tub on days or nights when the ocean is roiling is a feeling that's hard to duplicate. the house is surrounded by a deck and overlooks a stretch of beach where endless sand meets rocky Sonoma coast.. and is feet away from the ocean front path used by many a deer. there are indoor and outdoor showers. the area is kid friendly with sand dunes a bit down the beach....and nice dogs are ok(no more than 2)...(this very dog friendly beach doesn't allow pit bulls.)
