À propos de cet hébergement
Le Moulin Vert
The Moulin Vert is located below the granite ramparts and towers of the fairy tale like town Semur en Auxois, on the banks of the Armancon River. The center of town is on top of a cliff and the river makes a hairpin turn around it. This has been a natural fortress since the beginning of times…... This former water mill from the 16 th or 17 th century has been lovingly restored by its owners, Jean Jacques and Mary. They have used art deco furnishings and light fixtures, family heirlooms, stain glass windows, oak beams, local stone and handmade tile and original art making the house full of character and charm. Relax on the terrace or on the private island and soak up the gorgeous views of the river. The island, just a few steps across a bridge has many weeping willows and a waterfall; a perfect spot for reading. If you are a nature lover you will enjoy the daily visits from the mother duck and her ducklings and if you are up at daybreak you may see the large grey heron fishing in front of the mill. King fishers dart up and down the river and one year we had a water chicken (poule d’eau) build its nest right in front of our terrace. The luxuriant garden and island are nestled among many weeping willow trees and makes a lovely setting for a romantic river retreat.

A precious captain’s mahogany trunk from the 17 th century doubles as a bed side table. The living room has one wall of glass doors and windows that look out onto the river. You feel like you are in a greenhouse. The view is spectacular! The second floor above it is supported by oak beams and stone sculptures figuring a medieval mermaid and a dragon. The floor is local stone and the light fixtures art deco. The bathroom downstairs overlooks the river and the hillside. The bathtub is raised so that you may enjoy the lovely views while soaking in the relaxing tub! All the tile in the bathroom are hand made.

(this is where women used to hand wash laundry). The dining room has a unique art deco table, chairs and armoire. The tile was designed for the room and a flower motive winds around the furniture. The terrace is a wonderful place for dining. The views are magnificent! There is also a deck on the island and a small terrace with a bench next to the waterfall. This is a lovely spot to read. The garden wraps around the house creating many lovely places to relax and dream. The views of the river are everywhere and breathtaking!
