The home is fantastic!! It was absolutely beautiful!! Great location as well. It would be nice if it had air conditioning. I did not realize it didn’t have air conditioning before my arrival. I worry that some people physically/medically would be affected when sleeping in a hotter environment. Other than that, it was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Thank you!! We really enjoyed it!!

James, our host, was very welcoming and helpful.The home is delightful, it is open and spacious.We loved being able to open all the patio doors and windows and have the cooling sea breeze.The bedrooms and beds are very comfortable.The location is perfect for being able to walk to several local beaches.We would definitely return.

Being close to the beach was awesome. We really enjoyed being able to go to the beach in the evening and morning to see the turtles when they come onto the beach to sleep at night. The house was great for 5 people the have their space and to just relax. I give it 2 thumbs up. Great place.

A large and nicely furnished house

Nice home

The house was very comfortable for three couples. Three Large bedrooms with private baths. A large eating and living area to gather together. And a very short walk to the beach.

Perfect location and well equipped home.

Quite neighborhood within seconds to the beach. The crashing waves will put you to sleep and the roosters will greet you in the morning. So much better than a resort environment if you’re looking to detach and relax on a beautiful island.

Amazing home; great location

We loved the house and property and it was so close to Brennecke & Poipu beaches. The lanai was our favorite part of every night where we’d relax after dinner with drinks and music. The owner sent recommendations for the area which were very helpful. If you’re staying in Poipu, we’d highly recommend this property!

Great house

The house was plenty large for the six of us. The ground and the lanai were awesome. The house was super close to the ocean, great beaches, restaurants and shopping were close also. The kitchen was well stocked, and plenty of towels and linens. We will definitely return.

I know what you mean, but we like the house the way it is and here is why. When we built the house, there was no AC like today. So we gave every room 3-sided ventilation, insulated the exterior walls, built a mountain-style "cold roof" and put ceiling fans in every room. In April this year, the high temps in Poipu were only in the upper 70's and night-time temps fell to the high 60's. We think installing AC now would add at least $100/night to the rent, would grow the musty, moldy tropical odor over time, and be environmentally energy wasteful. It would also encourage guests to spend more time indoors instead of being outdoors experiencing Hawaii.

The Maluhia Ma Ka Honua home is a lovely location with amazing proximity to the Poipu Beach and Brennecke’s Beach areas! The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious, and the great room area a perfect spot for entertaining and gathering. However, when we arrived for check-in , the cleaning crew had not finished preparing the house for our arrival and we weren’t able to enter the home for another 1.5 hours. The home was still not properly cleaned, but we understood that with the oncoming threat of the hurricane , management and crew were preparing for a potential disaster. The water heater failed to heat up the hot water on Saturday PM to do dishes for a family dinner but the Parrish Crew arrived on Sunday to adjust the temperature. Tuesday the dishwasher leaked onto the kitchen floor, but the crew arrived promptly to fix it! Our main issue with the home was the inside temperature ; at times this past week it was a bit unbearable. The home needs several more large standing fans to make it comfortable since it does not provide air-conditioning. Just a few suggestions from our perspective . Also, the garage remote only opens up the secondary garage door and not the one the guest car accommodates. The home location is truly spectacular but the indoor temperature without additional relief made it difficult to stay indoors and sleep comfortably. Some minor updates would make the home much more appealing. We were still very grateful to enjoy the beauty of Poipu Beach in your home!

Our property manager tells us we can raise the rent $100/night by adding AC, but we prefer to keep the rent low and be a little more environmentally friendly by not adding to the electrical. We are always upfront that the house does not have AC.

California family

The house was perfect for our family. The set up is perfect with a bathroom for every bedroom, well supplied kitchen, great family/dining room. The lanai was perfect for morning breakfast and evening wine, and the kids loved the yard. We explored the island, but our favorite spot was poipu snorkeling with the beautiful fish, turtles and monk seals and this beautiful house. We were so sad to leave, but are looking forward to our next trip. I highly recommend this property.

Awesome family vacation

We stayed 7 nights here June 2nd through the 9th and it was way too short. The house was so well equipped with everything you could imagine. So much space and we really enjoyed the big grassy back yard with the BBQ. We would cook out and the kids would run around and play. We walked to Berne keys beach to boogie board in the mornings and it was awesome. The owner was great to work with and though we had a couple of hiccups, the management company was on it right away. I would highly recommend this house and we hope to be back someday.

Perfect House in Poipu

The house was perfect for the four of us. Plenty of room to not feel right on top of each other. The house was very clean. The kitchen was perfect and provided everything you would need to cook a meal. I can't say enough about how great the location is. You are steps away from the ocean/beach. It is a nice area, and you feel safe walking at night. You can hear the ocean waves with the windows open in the house. There are many shops and activities close by.

Incredible home just steps from the ocean

We come to Poipu every year for a week or so. We love Kauai and in particular the south shore. Up until now we've generally stayed at one of the Grand Hyatt Kauai. We were so impressed with Buzz's house. It was maintained beautifully with attractive decor and furnishings. The house comes with almost everything you could need including snorkel supplies, beach chairs and boogie boards. The garden is lovely and allowed us to enjoy many of our meals on the lanai. We will definitely be back as this was a very special house and location.

Christmas in Kauai

Thank you so much for allowing our family to be your guest over Christmas 2011 in this spectacular house. The six of us could not have been more comfortable; the bedrooms were huge and airy, the living/dining/kitchen area is set up perfectly, and the 4 baths was exactly what was needed to get us out of the house in the morning. This was our 4th trip to Hawaii (both our daughters went to school breifly at U of H) and this was by far out best experience. Kauai is a beautiful island, with plenty to see and do without the crowds and associated mayhem associated with Oahu and Maui. We will be back. Thanks again.

Absolute Paradise

My family and I rented this home for 7 days & loved it soo much we extended our stay! The house is beautiful inside and out. The listing mentions there isn't AC and to be honest, we really didn't miss it. Plenty of room for 6 of us to gather together for morning coffee and drinks in the evenings. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of extra blankets and pillows in each room. The house is in a great location, we walked right down to the beach every morning. We were there a week ago and there was construction going on directly across the street. We are all early risers so we didn't make too much of it. The kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked daily! This stay was wonderful and we would definitely stay here again! Communication with the owner was seamless... Thank you Buzz, we had a great stay!

Brutally Hot

This property needs AC! The disclaimers were not true. The entire house was very uncomfortably hot every day and deep into the night. All the bedrooms and especially the main room were very HOT. This house needs to have AC added! the ventilation and the multiple fans did not cool the house to a livable level.

I am sorry you were uncomfortable, but AC adds about $100/night to the rent and the houses stay closed up and often get a mildew smell in the tropics. We prefer to keep the rent affordable and the house fresh smelling. People come to Kauai for the warm weather, but when guests come from 6000’ elevation like you did, it takes time to get used to.

The pros: Very nice big home. Lots of space for a group to have their own privacy. The property is beautiful and I enjoyed lounging outside in the mornings and evenings. You can really hear the ocean from here.So close to the beach. Easily walked to a couple beaches everyday. Had the items to prep/cook a meal and enjoy coffee. Ice maker in the fridge was appreciated. Cons: Even with all the sliding doors it was warm in the living room. Oddly the upstairs was cooler. It seemed the air flowed better up there. We get the no AC though.Washer wasn't working properly. Either not spinning or not draining. Called repair and was so impressed how fast they came out. Said they fixed but did not. I sent a text notifying them for the next folks. Overall a good stay. Was a little confusing at first booking with VRBO but then being contacted with the property management company to deal with from there on out.

We love this house, but something to know...

We've stayed in Buzz's house twice now and we really love it. It's a very well designed house, which is comfortable for 6 people with plenty of room for all. One important note, the property (literally) directly across the street just started a major construction project. Monday through Friday we had noisy earth moving equipment, large loud trucks and many workers. Based off the lot size and equipment, it looks likely to be a large house or small apartment building, but it currently is a flat lot with green construction fencing around it. Knowing a bit about construction I would estimate this project will continue for a minimum of 12 to as much as 24 months. There's a lot of noise and dust, which we would have liked to know in advance. Still it's a great area, but for the price, you kind of expect peace and quiet.

My new home (I wish :-))

I grew up in Hawaii and over the years have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals on various islands. I'm always searching for that perfect balance of vacation luxury in a place that still feels local and 'connected' to the spirit of the islands -- a wonderful, unique and magical place that I still think of as home. This is the place of my dreams! And let me tell you, I usually stay places and say 'this part is great, but I would change this, or knock out that wall and move that'. I was ready to move in here with no changes at all! Buzz, if you ever sell, give me a call :-) A beautiful home with plenty of space for everyone to both gather and also be a bit apart when you need to. Well-laid out, such beautiful and relaxing surroundings, and so close to the incredible beauty and beaches of Poipu (easy to walk to so many things) and everything the south shore has to offer. One tiny wish would be for the 3rd bedrooms to have Twin XL beds rather than regular twins (for those longer teenage bodies), but that is microscopic compared to how amazing everything was. We can't wait to come back!

You are correct about the house, there is something magically Hawaiian about it, perhaps it was the blessings when it was built and the Ti leaves in the doorway cement. Regarding the twin XL beds, you are correct they would be better. But I have never seen twin XL sheets or mattress pads on Kauai so we have to keep the regular twin beds. Please come back often! A Perfect Home for Our Family Vacation

My husband and I travel a lot and have rented many homes and I must say this home was the most well stocked and most comfortable property we have ever rented. For our 10 day stay, we took the downstairs master and let our adult children, spouses and toddler take the two rooms upstairs. The kids stayed up late and although our room was located off the main living area, it was peaceful and quiet in our room. I loved that there were 4 full bathrooms giving us 4 showers to use. The kitchen is well laid out and large enough to enable everyone to help with meal prep - so much fun! And - there are even table linens! We played games every night comfortably nesting in beautiful couches and chairs or sitting around the large glass table and walked to the beach each night to watch the sunset. The grassy yard was a hit too as our sons tossed around the football while we grilled and played with our granddaughter. Because our party included a toddler we didn't want to be right on the water yet we didn't want to be far away either. The location was absolutely perfect and very walk able. Close enough to the beach to come back and forth for lunch, naps, etc. We rented a Pack n Play and backpack which were waiting in the house when we arrived. Everything was just perfect - it was so hard to leave!
