A real home away from home in the South of France. Books and artwork -- our home. Not an austere rental property. Comfortable places to read or work. Great for mid-day naps. Room to entertain, and space to be alone. Everything you could need for a week or a month. With WiFi, this house gives remote working new meaning.
The house is 10 minutes from sea beaches with waterfront restaurants; walking distance to the old village with boulangeries, restaurants and a Wednesday market, or perfect for staying at home. Enjoy breakfast with fresh fruits and bakery on the terrace. Take a trip to the local markets or go antiquing. Find a new restaurant (or an old favorite) for lunch and come home for dip in the pool, an outside shower, and a nap. After the nap, enjoy an aperitif and watch the sunset before cooking dinner or going out and end the day with ice cream in the old village and a walk home.
We were visiting friends in Bormes and they recommended this property. The home is unique and filled with many personal items. Feels like you are in your own home. A lovely pool. Three nice size bedrooms. Comfortable kitchen and living space. We wish we could have spent more time at the house. The location is amazing. So close to restaurants and beaches. A very nice time had by all.
In summary, the house was exactly as in the photos, as positive points the location near Bornes Les Mimoses a wonderful village and a pleasant surprise for us, and close to several supermarkets (I recommend a car as the distances are not long but the house is on a hill quite high and the road can be heavy if you return loaded from the supermarket) the area really quiet and very quiet perfect for a summer break.
Wonderful beaches around, maybe the one we liked the least was the local one "Lavandou" but there are countless more around.
As a negative point, the extreme heat in the house, I think it would be essential to solve this issue, in the ad says to have air conditioning, but there are two portable devices in the area of the rooms, being portable you have to evacuate the hot air through the balcony which forces you to sleep with the doors open with many mosquitoes and a tremendous noise of the devices, a shame really.
The dining area was impracticable due to the intense heat that was accumulated in that area.
We also could not use the BBQ as it was forbidden, it would be appreciated to offer an alternative, because with that heat would like to have dinner on the terrace area, perhaps an electric plancha?
We greatly appreciate the help of Brigitte, always ready to help.
I would also like to comment that the couple that takes care of the house lives in the same house on the lower floor.
In brief a wonderful journey.
We are not "vacation rental owners." This is our home away from home -- literally. We want to share it with people who will enjoy and respect it. We live in the United States. in the suburbs of New York City. We are lawyers. The grandparents, parents and probably the grandchild -- all lawyers.
In 1982, at a New Year's day party, we came across an advertisement to rent a fort in Bormes-les-Mimosas. (The Vieux Chateau -- which is now a private home.) But after 10+ years of seasonal renting, we bought this house. It is all about location, location, location. It is a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport at Hyeres/Toulon (TLN). Two hours by car to either the airport in Marseilles (MRS) or Nice (NCE), and four hours from Paris on the TGV into Toulon where it is easy to rent a car. One other thing that is special -- because we do not live year round in the house, there is a permanent gardienne (caretaker) who lives in an apartment on the lower level. She has her own fully equipped apartment with her own doors and terrace. Her job is to maintain the pool and the grounds. She will not enter the house while you are there unless she is welcomed. And she is fluent in French and English.
