Doté plafonds voûtés partout, il vous entoure avec des thèmes à la fois marins et hawaïennes pour améliorer votre sens d'une expérience de paradis tropical.

The Mermaid House est situé sur une route tranquille juste sept minutes de marche de la célèbre destination de plongée en apnée, Tunnels Beach. Dans le salon, les banques de fenêtres coulissantes ouvrent dans des combinaisons multiples pour profiter des alizés et les brises tropicales. Un court 90 secondes promenade vous emmène à la plage de Naue Point et que vous tournez à l'ouest vous affichez spectaculaire Makana (Bali Hai) et la côte Na'Pali.

Vous trouve un miles et demi plus loin à la plage Kee ", réputé pour son couchers de soleil spectaculaires. Ceci est la fin de la route sur la rive nord. Revenez sur votre chemin à travers sept ponts d'une des voies à Hanalei ville pittoresque et un repas gastronomique, de se raser la glace, ou un aperçu de la couleur locale au marché de producteurs, avec des fruits et des fleurs de toutes les descriptions tropicales.

A true Hawaiian Experience

A great find! A house that defines “Charachter” and a true Hawaiian experience. We found our stay very comfortable and loved being so far North in this jungle oasis.

Perfect!!!

This home is in a beautiful place. It is just steps away from a secluded beach that we mostly had to ourselves. The house is a very authentic beach house with original wood features throughout. Very well done. We will be back.

Lovely beach side house

The Mermaid House was perfect for our group. We appreciated the older and unique styling of the house. Also, it had a fully applianced equipped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. The location is great - very private and a short walk down an inviting path to a beautiful beach.

Wonderful week at Mermaid House

We really liked the setup of the Mermaid House. Very comfortable, wanting for nothing. Having three bedrooms was nice. Beach chairs and towels were especially nice. Maybe the quietest Bosch dishwasher ever.

Beautiful spot!

We loved the location of this house, and its rustic/authentic Hawaiian feel. It is perfect for a family group, away from the crowds and touristy areas, and close to quiet beaches. The house has a spacious, open living area, a well-equipped kitchen, and plenty of sleeping areas. My only disappointment was prior to our stay: we had researched well, and settled on this property based on its description and the price that VRBO quoted us for the selected dates. Apparently, however,VRBO did not update the site to reflect "prices over the Holidays period" , so we received an unexpected extra cost request after we had already made our decision to stay here. At that point, it was too late to change, so we agreed to pay the extra. We were not at all disappointed with our stay at the Mermaid House, but wish that VRBO had been clearer with its original quote.

Great house close to beaches

Great house, nice beaches close by. Great communication with owner. Only downside, was it was a little farther than most of our activities. I knew this going in. Wanted to be closer to Tunnels and Kee beaches, but waves didn’t cooperate for snorkeling. Would stay here again even though it’s a little farther from activities.

Beautifully Secluded Home

We are a more introverted family and this place was incredible for our needs. We enjoyed the quick walk to the beach and the overall feel of the house. So glad there are still a few of these more traditional feeling homes on the island. The stroll up the coastline each morning was magical and this side of the island gave us a whole different experience than the rest of it. When we come back again we'll be sure to stay here.

MH was such an experience! The house itself is unique. Lots of treasures to notice gathered over the years, I presume. The beach is just a couple of minutes to walk to and explore for shells. The historic town of Hanelei is a short distance away. Besides shopping and eating there are 2 markets to enjoy. Jane, answered all our questions VERY quickly. A joy to be here and experience MH. J & J

Comfortable Hawaiian Home In A Quiet Neighborhood

My sister and I stayed at the Mermaid House for four nights. The home is located in a quiet beach house neighborhood. Neighboring homes are close by, but the vegetation surrounding the house provides ample privacy. We found the home and grounds tidy and clean and supplied with everything you need for cooking and dining at home and going to the beach. You can walk to the beach in about 1-2 minutes! And, Tunnels Beach is just down the road! We are looking forward to staying at Mermaid House again and again.

Pristine Location, incredible Hawaiian home

Such a wonderful place to stay, proximity of the ocean is literally steps away, house is perfectly laid out, comfortable and has anything you could ask for. We enjoyed everything this property had to offer including contact with the Owner. Such a delightful place, why would you want to stay in a condo when you have this incredible Hawaiian home? We are a little picky when it comes to places to stay and we had absolutely no complaints... a dream! I can't stress enough how perfect the location was. We will be back... again and again and again!

Comfort and character, next to perfect beaches

The Mermaid House was beautiful, with traditional Hawaiian-inspired architecture and wonderful details from its original owner. Jane was easy to communicate with and determined to address any issue, however minor. The home is a 3 minute walk from a beautiful stretch of beach. At a time of year when Hanalei and the rest of the island were crowded, we felt alone in paradise :) .

Hidden Gem

Having never been to Kauai (or Hawaii at all) we happened upon this hidden gem. Jane, the owner, was lovely to interact with before and after booking. This home is perfect for a family. It is exactly as described. We visited in March and with the easterly winds, AC was unnecessary. We realized after arriving how lucky we were to be so far north. The beaches were virtually empty all times of day. I watched the sunrise on the beach without another soul. Sunset was shared with 7 total people on the whole beach as far as I could see. It's one of the most private-feeling public beaches I've ever been to. The home isn't too far from good coffee shops, shopping and shaved ice in Hanelei if that's your scene. The daybeds in the living room are larger than they appear in the pictures. One bathroom is off of the main living space and the other is a jack-and-jill between one of the king bedrooms and the full size bed. We chose to keep the door locked to the full size bedroom for privacy. The other king size bedroom is very specacious but is open along the ceiling to the main living area, and is therefore slighly less private. You can't beat this for a larger family vacation. We had 3 adults, 1 pre teen and 2 adolescents. Could easy have been 2 couples the kids and would have been very comfortable. Laundry machine was clean, kitchen was spacious and well equipped. We will absolutely stay here again when we return to Kauai. Thank you Jane!

North shore experience

The beaches in the area are beautiful. We have stayed in Kauai several times in the past. We very much wanted to stay in Hanalei and this property was misrepresented as in Hanalai until we received the final information which in light of driving times, etc., Haena is a ways away. I understand the enthusiasm in the reviews about the location We very much enjoyed ourselves, but the place is rustic and I think people need to understand that. It’s also in need of a deep cleaning. The sills, the floors, the grout, etc. We had the opportunity to renew our wedding vows together as couples on the beach next to where we were staying. That was a wonderful blessing, and we so appreciated that.

Treasure House

What a treasure this house is, full of history and authenticity. If you are looking for a resort style house, this is not it, thankfully! There are a few of these local style houses left that owners like Jane keep as they were in layout and design, but with up to date amenities of today like a fantastic kitchen. I was here with my adult daughter but could see coming back with a larger group and having plenty of space to lounge and feast on mahi after a day with the sea turtles. I haven’t even mentioned the beach yet-show stopper, the water with more visibility than a pool. If you are a sailor or and kind of water person, you must read about Peggy Slater, yachtswoman extraordinaire, who built this house after one of her many transpacific journeys from Cal-one of them single handed! Thank you Jane for keeping her spirit alive in the home as I imagined her putting that first Mai Tai umbrella up the mainmast! THis place is not to be missed and I will certainly be back. Mahalo nui loa…

Amazing- just what we needed.

After working in the pandemic for over 2 years, this getaway was priceless. The house is old school Hawaii, away from crowds, away from all.. BUT so close to beautiful beaches. They are stunning. We (me and my three boys 5,7,8 walked to a calm part of the beach everyday and played..) the views are truly beautiful, the beach not crowded at all, the waters crystal clear. It’s a 15 minute drive to hanalei, a one minute walk to the beach and about a 10 minute walk to calmer waters for our kids. There was a cooler and some beach chairs to bring along. The house is plenty roomy with a well appointed kitchen, fans to keep house cool, lots of chickens and even some internet (spotty at times but we didn’t care). This is not a fancy house if you are looking for that, try something different but exactly what we love. Jane was so great to communicate with. . We came to get away from it all and this was truly perfect. My boys want to stay a month, me too:) we will be back!

Retro-tropics feel and character

We found the Mermaid House to be full of character, unique furnishings and art, and a sense of what visiting the tropics must have once been like before condo-world. Happily, it has modern appliances, plenty of hot water, etc. My husband and I stayed for a week in August. At first, we were dismayed by the heat & humidity. We knew there was no AC, but weren't prepared for the mid-day heat. Ceiling fans move the air around, but the floor fan helped more. Breezes were erratic, so privacy was sacrificed, as keeping the window blinds open was imperative to catch whatever air came through. That was a good thing, as several of the blinds don't work. Luckily, the house is mostly surrounded by hedges, so that wasn't a big problem for us. We ended up very glad we stayed there. A few minor tweaks would make a great place even better: A new lockbox by the door - the current one is pretty old, and the cover fell off a few times. Some new window blinds. Better directions to the house and to Tunnels Beach - the street sign is hidden by foliage, and we had to ask around to find the way to Tunnels. All in all, we're very happy to have had the Mermaid House experience. It felt "real," and adding AC would somehow lessen its island atmosphere. We enjoyed the many interesting books and appreciated the snorkeling equipment.We even loved the chickens! Mahalo to Jane for keeping this rare place intact.

Walk to the Beach; Enjoy Local Charm

We were looking for a home that had an authentic feel and local charm on the north side of the island near Hanalei - and the Mermaid House was beyond perfect. We could walk to the Beach to enjoy some time on the sand. The walk to Tunnels Beach is a bit longer, but since there is almost no street parking for this snorkeling area, it was nice to be close enough to walk if we wanted (too bad the one day we set aside for snorkeling, the water was too rough.) The house decor is rustic and charming - and really captures the spirit of the islands. It's an older property, but the appliances have been updated and everything we needed was on hand. The property was clean and comfortable. It's not fancy, but that's not what we wanted. There was plenty of bed space, towels and linens, paper products, etc. The house was also equipped with beach gear - a cooler, beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkels, fins, beach towels, etc. The island breeze coming in through the screened windows was all we needed with the ceiling fans. The street was fairly quiet (except the roosters, but they are an issue everywhere in Kauai). The drive to Hanalei was not too far. Jane was pleasant in all our dealings. We still think about the Mermaid House, and we hope we can return one day.

Difficulty in Paradise

This property is located in the beautiful area of Hanalei Bay at the end of road for most of my visit I enjoyed my stay although I found the owner Jane difficult and intolerant. She was unable to electronically send house instructions and I needed to have them faxed to local copy shop upon receipt some of the instructions were difficult to read particularly the address. The house is listed as accommodating 8 people although I stayed the majority of the trip 12 days by myself i had my daughter join me at Thanksgiving for 5 days. I was going to have a second daughter join and Jane wanted to charge me more than the advertised rate for the total of 3 guests. The property is a bit primitive which can add to the experience although some of the drawbacks experienced both my and my daughters laptop computers were ruined on the trip I am not sure if this was a power surge electrical issue or the dampness of the house and setting. Although the house is located in a somewhat secluded area the neighbors closely border the back of the property where 2 of the bedrooms are located and this can become noisy. Upon departure Jane was rather rude and intolerant of some of the difficulties we endured and made unjust accusations after we took on the challenge of traveling during Covid and under the belief I was helping an individual suffering the downturn by renting a much larger house than needed I certainly believe she could have been more accommodating towards guests.
