Chez Benz is a cute place to stay. Everything is clean and the scenery could not be better. The owners are super nice and accommodating. The place is the best place to get away. They have all you need. Would definitely stay again.
Eric and Lora are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They were so gracious during my stay. The cabin was exactly as listed - clean, comfortable, easy to find, private, secure, and surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. Thank you!
The cabin is just outside the entrance to Harding Lake rec area. This was extremely convenient for me to access Harding Lake for the week-end I was there. The cabin is well kept and comfortable. It has that nature quietness that gives you the get-away feeling. The hosts are great, ready to ensure everything is good while maintaining your privacy. Overall, a great stay.
The owners are terrific people.
Very nice to work with and stay to themselves even though they live close by. Lora does laundry, very nice to have!
I stayed here twice for a month each time. It takes a bit to getting used to
living off the grid but once you master it all is just fine.
Not for the faint of heart, but for folks that want to do something a little different and have fun doing it. The microwave works very well and the heater does also. The walls are eight inches thick so Arctic air is not a problem.
The owners will do anything you ask of them.
I was a construction superintendent on a nearby site.
I stayed at the cabin five weeks from May 8 to June 12, 2022.
Eric and Lora were very kind hosts. Their house is 100 feet from the cabin but screened by foliage. They left you alone but were responsive to your needs. Lora provided laundry service which was great. I used the outdoor shower daily and it served the purpose.
The privy was clean.
I had my two springer spaniels with me and they got along well on the propertyâŠ.no fences just the wilds of Alaska.
The cabin is very quiet. The oil heater works very well. The refrigerator and microwave served there purpose quite satisfactorily.
I ate in the cabin every night for five weeks so it is manageable with a good bbq.
You could not shower in the winter and the privy would be a challenge below zero but doable. When I arrived it was below freezing each morning.
Given the potential environment in Alaska the Benzâs have done everything possible to make the small cabin comfortable.
I would definitely stay again.

Absolutely loved our experience at the cabin! The owners are very nice and accommodating and the cabin was very clean and stocked with almost everything you could think of needing. Highly recommend.
Chez (French word meaning âAtâ) Benz comes from the needle point frame inside the cabin . The parents of Eric Benz, Claude and Jeanine immigrated from France in 1958 to settle in New Jersey thousands of miles from their families. The needle point picture "Chez Benz" inside the cabin is the home Eric grew up in. Just like Claude and Jeanine, Eric and Lora changed their lives by selling everything North Carolina and settling in Salcha, Alaska in April 2019.
