Unfortunately there was garbage piled up outside. There were cigarette butts, lighters and cups of ashes on the basement stairs. The doorknob to the main bedroom fell off when we opened the door. And a man knocked on the door our second day and requested to come in to 'look for something'. Not a pleasant experience.
My oldest daughter got married in Cape Cod this past weekend and the house we stayed at in South Dennis was more than we expected. It was clean, spacious and just all-around felt like a cozy atmosphere, a home away from home. The kids had a great time in the yard and we even made friends with some of the neighbors. Definitely definitely will be staying in this house again if we ever find our way up to Cape Cod!
Adequately equipped but in need of serious updates
This home is located in a convenient part of the cape. The entry lock which required a 10 digit code was very sensitive. It took several times each time we entered for it to work. The home was clean in regards to floors, kitchen and bath. There were plenty of bath towels and toiletries. The electric heat baseboard was all rusty and falling apart. We didn't open any windows for fresh air as it was extremely dirty and laden with bugs in between the glass and screens. We opened the slider in the kitchen and the screen was torn and there were gaps where bugs and outdoor elements could easily enter. This home looks neglected and needs TLC and updates. Other than that it served our purpose for two nights.
Highly recommend "Skylight Tonight" in Dennis, Cape Cod
This little home is deceptive in that it looks pretty small from the outside. The minute you step inside, you will love it! A spacious double height room which is the one in the picture is beautifully decorated with beach vibes reflecting the seaside area. All facilities were as described and everything in tge house was spotlessly clean.
Although our stay was for a family wedding - it was just a lovely house to return to or to spend time in. I would highly recommend this cute little house in Cape Cod without hesitation.
I stayed here recently with my husband, four kids, and our dog. The positives: the main living spaces were clean, it was nice and bright, good hot water pressure in the shower, slept a lot of people with 5 beds upstairs and a queen downstairs, close proximity to restaurants and activities, nice walkable neighborhood with a park at the end of the street (dogs NOT allowed in the park).
The not-so-positives: one of my kids' beds had sand in it that my husband had to wipe off before we could finally sleep after a very long drive, two bedrooms upstairs and one bedroom downstairs meant the kids were very far from ear shot (my mistake for not checking on the layout beforehand), the beds had the bare bones amount of pillows and thin bedding, not a spare throw to be found for our chilly October nights, the baby gate provided was very old and the handle broke off as my husband put it in place, the kitchen cabinets were peeling and pans were scratched, no water to drink since the tap was unfiltered and there was no refrigerator dispenser, no usable ice (ice trays were filled with sink water), no toaster, only a toaster oven, we cooked bacon and it set off the smoke alarm, if you plan to cook you'll need to bring every single ingredient with you including spices, only one spare garbage bag provided so we had to buy our own, no hangers in any of the closets, ceiling fan in the living room was missing a blade, living room lamps (the only light in the evenings) both had awful cool toned LED bulbs, overall most appliances and fixtures were outdated and floors all scratched from pets.
I travel for work and book stays where I can bring my dog. This stay was just fine. Nothing really special or memorable, this is definitely a bare bones rental. Donât expect any condiments in the fridge, spices or pantry items. This is a full DIY. The house was comfortable and functional. I never had any issues with things like heat or hot water. It was clean, though it gave me the impression that it was cleaned after the last tenant leaves, not before the next arrives. The location was great, the park down the street is a big plus for dog owners. It seems like some old issues have been addressed - plenty of pots, pans, and cookware. However, there were some big issues that need to be addressed. The mattress downstairs is awful, truly unsleepable. I opted for the couch and a shared room upstairs to avoid it. It needs to be replaced. Also, I think itâs misleading to say the house has television. It has *a* television, with no streaming services or capability of letting you log into your own streaming accounts (Netflix was eternally unable to connect to the network) and the cable options were news, weather, court tv, and one channel playing crime dramas. So yes, thereâs a TV, but youâll need to BYO streaming device or dvd player. Last, I got a late check out for 2p. My code to the door expired before my check out. Luckily the house keeping staff was on site and let me in or else I wouldnât have been able to access my things and dog to leave.
Smaller issues/inconveniences are that there arenât really extra blankets/towels/linens, you pretty much get what you get. No comfortable seating on the back porch, plastic table and chairs. The miniatures in the bathroom are fineâŠbut really wouldnât last of you had more than one or two people in a pinch. Last, you have to constantly log back into the wifi through a portal. Not a huge deal, but annoying enough when youâre working from the home. I logged in 3-4 times every day.
Overall, the house was fine. I felt safe, dry, and warm, and the on demand virtual helper was nice, if relatively ineffective for the issues this house has. Personally, Iâm unlikely to book again. I prefer somewhere homier with more conveniences. As others have echoed, this house could be really sweet, but lacks all the homey features that make home shares comfortable.
The house was very nice. I saw some reviews that said it was dirty and to bring pots and pansâŠ. But the house was very clean maybe older and some of it dated, but I found this charming. The pots and pans were very clean and newer. Nice comfortable furniture. The queen bed was like a rock but some ppl like that. Clean white sheets which is all I really require, haha. Had soaps and towels and all the amenities we needed. Good location , nice neighborhood. Very happy, would definitely come back. Thanks for an affordable wonderful stay on the cape!
The house is in a good location that provides an easy drive to both beaches on the ocean side and on the Bay side. Chatham was also an easy drive for a stroll in that quaint town.
We absolutely loved the location, and the roomy house. It was close to beaches, shopping, and restaurants. Our dog loved the place too; having a deck and back yard really was awesome.
Our only suggestion is to have local menus handy for quick decision making, and the WiFi information written down somewhere.
The house was spacious. Plenty of room for 5 adults, 2 kids, and one dog. There wasn't anything that we needed and didn't have. Everything we planned on doing or seeing was about 10-15 minutes away.
We were glad to find air conditioning in every bedroom as well as in the living room/ dining room area because it was quite hot, muggy, and rained quite a bit during our stay. The acs worked well and we only needed to run one downstairs and one upstairs. Spacious bathrooms. It was very convenient to have access to washer and dryer, located in the first floor bathroom. Plenty of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, even plastic wrap, and many other little necessities were there to use.
The only negative I can think of is that the floors and living room rug were quite dirty, covered in sand. We didn't notice at first but after removing our shoes it was definitely noticeable. You could feel sand everywhere you walked and the bottoms of socks and bare feet quite quickly became filthy. I saw there was a vacuum so attempted to use it. Not a big deal to me, I'm not too fancy to run a vacuum on vacation. But, the vacuum gave off a terrible odor so I quickly shut it off and put it right back where I found it! We ended thoroughly sweeping both levels and shaking out small rugs near the door to get rid of sand that would otherwise have been tracked back in. I also made use of the two mops located next to the washer and dryer. So we took care of that, no biggie! I'm only mentioning it because maybe the cleaning service could be made aware and double check the floors in the future before guest arrival.
Other than that, we would absolutely recommend to others and would definitely stay again ourselves.
All in all the cottage was exactly as stated. Location was awesome. Only draw backs were: No adequate pans to cook a family breakfast, lacked utensils, bowls. No hairdryer! This was really needed as we rented for a family anniversary party. I asked a neighbor if I could borrow a hairdryer for 5 minutes and he stated, "it was broken". Come on, just say no. Also, the person prior to us did not clean up their dogs yard waste. We cleaned it so that we did not get blamed for leaving. The trash was not gone from the last renter. It could also use more deck chairs and beach chairs. The inside was very clean. Also, check in was at 4 p.m. The cleaners weren't done until 4 p.m. The check out time was 10 a.m. It should be later for the amount of money paid. Very expensive with all the fees for this and that.
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door to this home. It was very clean and well furnished. I have stayed in other BnB's and they were modestly furnished. This typical Cape Cod style house feels like a home. The artwork on the walls were tasteful. The furniture was modern and clean. Having the sheets and towels furnished was a plus. The kitchen has everything that you could need, including a blender for those vacation drinks! The house is situated in a quiet neighborhood that is close to both bay and ocean beaches. I would rebook this home again.
We enjoyed our stay at this property. It was clean and comfortable. Three bedrooms on two floors accommodate seven adults. The kitchen is well equipped. The property is centrally located in the mid cape making it accessible to some of the best beaches, shopping, and historic sites. We will stay again.
This home was very pretty, the neighborhood is quiet and convenient but the interior was extremely unsatisfactory with regards to cleanliness. Multiple beds had actually dirt particles in the sheets, the living room had crumbs and tufts of dog hair on the rug, as well as clumps of dog hair on the couches. The toiletries were all small samples, not effective for more than one or two days stay, same with paper products and garbage bags. This home has SO MUCH potential, but the details just missed the mark and made out stay less than ideal.
We have a small dog so needed a property that would accept pets. I didn't imagine this would mean pee stained and urine soaked carpet. Property managers tried to rectify by sending pro carpet cleaners but once the carpet got wet the smell was worse, although the stains were removed. And we had to request a foam mattress topper as the queen bed was like a slab of
Concrete. Very plain poorly equipped home. Irear deck had two plastic chairs and a small plastic table and a dirty barbecue. Awful.
Great House, Great Location in Dennis, we had ease of travel whenever we went out. We would stay again, had a wonderful time. Thank You!
Maintenance Recommendations for Property Owner.
1. Add another trash barrel to the yard, we cooked at home all week and the trash was a lot, even with us trying to reduce.
2. The Mobile AC unit in the 1st floor needs a permanent fix, we (as others before) had to duct tape the unit vent into the window, it would come undone every couple nights at 2 or 3am and fall out.
3. Toilet seats should be replaced, the hinge on the 1st floor was wonky.
