The house is fully screened, including all windows and the screen porch with a beautiful view of the Miles River. Regarding the flies, I have never received a comment about this before. Presumably, the flies may have gotten into the house because a screen door or window was left open during the beautiful weather? I look forward to your return for another visit.

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at my home and admired the scenic views. I try so hard to give each guest a wonderful visit. If I had known your concerns about your adult son with autism, I would have been happy to arrange the removal of items throughout the house to make your visit more relaxing. All the furniture is usable and very comfortable-I am always in the process of upgrading furniture as necessary, but the COVID crisis has slowed down the process a bit. Thank you for being a guest and for your positive review.

We are sorry this guest had critical comments even though they liked it enough to give a high rating of four stars. While we always appreciate comments from our guests, we feel that some of these are misplaced. The grounds are professionally maintained weekly, a new grill has been purchased, the dryer was serviced, and there have always been at least 15 sets of linens for six beds as well as a generous supply of plush towels and new Cuisinart pots and pans. I always respond immediately to any guest questions, but I can only respond to those I am aware of. The aforementioned questions were not communicated until the guests had departed after a week-long visit, giving me no opportunity to correct anything nor tell them where items were located. And what is surprising is that this guest originally made glowing, wonderful comments about our house, that is until we brought to their attention some damaged and missing property, including a screen door that was destroyed by their dog.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this review. This is an historic house with an authentic Eastern Shore feel, which has been enjoyed by many travelers, and many return guests. And yes, the views are beautiful! I provide accurate photos and descriptions on the website for your preview. This is a vacation home, which we love to share with guests, but it is also used by our own family, and the golf cart belongs to my three boys. The beach steps, which were unknowingly damaged by a storm, were immediately repaired once I was notified. The kitchen, as many reviewers point out, is very well furnished. I have a complete set of Cuisinart pots and pans for use by my guests. We have guests who bring their dogs, and we discovered that the bed skirt was a magnet for dog hairs. Since moving a king size mattress to remove/clean the bed skirt after each visit was challenging, we made the executive decision to remove the bed skirt. As you will see the house is very clean. My many 5-star reviews serve as a testament that my house is lovingly cared for and that I put my guests first. Hopefully the multitude of positive feedback from prior guests lends credibility to the assertion that this review was written in bad faith by a guest who caused damage to both the house and its furnishings.

We are at a loss to understand why a guest would post a review nine months after their visit without communicating their concerns to us first. We always appreciate constructive feedback and we work hard to ensure that our guests have a positive experience at Cranford. We are sorry that the comments do not reflect this goal. We should point out that the facts as stated in the review are not wholly accurate. For example, when we were called with the complaint that the refrigerator was not cooling properly, we immediately responded and called an appliance repair service. They responded quickly and determined upon their arrival that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the refrigerator and no repairs were required. The pest control experts who were called were also somewhat mystified by the extent of the complaint. Regarding the $200 security deposit, there was damage beyond the umbrella they took. For example, there was a broken lamp shade and damage to the valances, as well as other furnishings. Many families have enjoyed the house with their small children and we look forward to other families creating wonderful memories during their visits to Cranford on the Miles. Toddlers are always welcome and the house shows no worse wear because of it. If fact, there are toys and books throughout the house for guests of all ages to be used and enjoyed.

I take great pride in my well-maintained historic home. To prove it, I have nearly 70 five-star reviews, two of which are from guests with children who came immediately before and immediately after this guest. The house has not changed nor have I. I would have cancelled this reservation as soon as I became aware that the traveler was bringing several more people than their inquiry, more than the number allowed on my site and exceeding the number permitted by my rental license with the county (mandatory for renting in St. Michaels). But VRBO/HomeAway penalizes the home-owner for cancelling reservations by dropping the home to the bottom of the traveler search queue so I had little choice but to go forward with it. This traveler broke the house rules and when I brought it to their attention they wrote this vindictive review trashing both me and the house. My experience is that guests appreciate it when I am able to greet them at the house to spend a few minutes (not an hour) giving them a general tour and answering any questions they may have. I am not a stranger, but the home-owner trying to make my guests feel comfortable and welcome. I have nothing else to say but hope my numerous five-star reviews speak for themselves.
