Il Mangia is a luxurious apartment located on the third floor of an ancient building in the historic centre of Siena, just a stone's throw away from Piazza del Campo and the Duomo. We have meticulously curated it, drawing inspiration from the ancient and luxurious apartments of the Sienese nobility.

The primary challenge for anyone considering renting this unit is the number of stairs you need to climb to access the unit. If you are not prepared to carry your body and your luggage up 91 stairs you may want to think twice before renting this unit. There are no elevators and no one there to assist. Overall the unit was a nice rental. The unit is located in the heart of Siena right on a main thoroughfare. Close to restaurants, bakeries and shops. The unit was clean but we did find a number of ants in the main living room and master bathroom. The only other negative was the water temperature in the master bathroom shower, it was very unpredictable and you would be scorching one minute and freezing the next. I believe the diverter needs adjustment or replacement. Other positives were the loft where you can see the tops of most of the buildings in Siena including the Duomo and the City Hall Tower. The unit also has a large screen TV if you do enjoy watching shows after a long day of touring. The kitchen is well equipped and all furnishings are in good shape and comfortable.
Great Location & Clean, but Failure to stand behind experience
This property is in a great location for experiencing the historic center of Siena. Siena is a good base to explore Tuscany villages, wineries, etc.
We found the property mostly as described. It was clean and functional with expected amenities.
The following would be helpful adds:
. More clear instructions about finding the apartment once you have the keys. Had to text host to find it.
. Guests should know there are 88 steps up. Description states 3rd floor, but in this old building, that's meaningless.
. Prepare a binder with helpful information: dining, grocery and other area highlights.
. Host should share that suggested soccer stadium parking ok, but towing occurs around game days.
Our Issues:
. Hot Water: on-demand hot water heater worked only for 3 showers (for 4 people, 5 nights). Worked with host over text to try solve, but turned out to be mechanical. For last morning, we were allowed to use the shower in a next door apartment.
. We requested a partial refund (20%) for the cold water inconvenience. Up to this point, host communication was good. Now went silent, with no response to follow-ups.
We understand that mechanicals can fail now and then. We also feel a partial refund is fair request to show the host stands behind the experience.
To top it off, attempts to work with VRBO after have been frustrating. Two different customer service agents, one a supervisor, promised they'd contact the host and provide email updates. Have heard nothing after several days.
