We had a great time. The property is in a rural location but within east driving distance of many villages of character & of course the Dordogne river & tributaries. Pool was the right size being 25m long - so you could actually swim a length.
Ellie Koos & their son Sebastian were very helpful & knowledgeable about the area. They also dealt with the little issues we had at the property quickly. I would say the properties are now getting slightly tired & the bed linen could do with replacing. Minor issues really though.
We had a wonderful stay in this character property. The house has everything you may need and the lovely hosts are on call just down the path if you needed anything else. Be aware that you will need to provide the security deposit in cash, which is promptly returned at the end of your stay. The pool and grounds were well maintained and we had a lovely time. Recommended!
Overall, we had a lovely stay at Domaine de Pradelle and we leave this review after talking to everyone who stayed that week.
The hosts and pool are absolutely fantastic. We received a warm and friendly welcome when we arrived after a long journey. They were on hand if we needed them but left us be when needed.
The pool here is stunning. Cool, clean and quiet, exactly what we wanted and needed during hot weather.
The house itâs self was great. It is much bigger than in the photos we saw and is well equipped. The terrace is fantastic and gas bbq makes things really easy if you want to use it.
Many things point to a 5* review but given the price we paid there are a few bits that prevent that.
Mainly, we found that the upstairs floors in the old farmhouse were incredibly noisy. I know it is authentic and a genuine farmhouse but we found that anyone moving around to use the bathroom or toilet upstairs, regardless of how quiet they were trying to be woke the whole house up.
One proper bathroom for a 5* property is a stretch and we found the lack of privacy with just gauze curtains on the doors to be problematic. The WiFi is also only at the pool
and tricky to access.
Overall, this is a lovely property with a great pool but given the price we paid (in August) we would not rush to stay again. If you want a quiet place with a small group and a pool this is the pace for you. The hosts are lovely and clearly care about the property. If we felt they could have solved any of the issues we encountered we would have spoken to them.
We just found the noise from the upper floors prevented us from proper sleep and so may think twice before staying again.
Staying here was a real pleasure. The setting is idyllic and the pool was both characterful and extremely clean - popular with all three households staying. Having the hosts on site meant they were on hand to offer suggestions and nothing was too much trouble
Excellent hosts who could not of been more helpful. The property was clean, well furnished and the beds were very comfortable. The downstairs living room was beautiful and cool on the hot days in July. The location definitely needs a car but there are so many options of day trips from this location of outstanding beauty. Lots of local restaurants serving amazing local produce within 5 to 10 minutes away. Local markets most days too. Highly recommended.
We've stayed for a bit more than a week and it was really great: fully equipped flat, terrace, ready-to-use gas grill, all necessary kitchen appliances as well as formidable hosts who treated us almost as family.
Many thanks to the hosts for your hospitality, for the good tips and tricks as well as letting us also take part in some of your daily "farm activities".
We had a wonderful time at this amazing domaine. Really relaxing location, gentle advice by the owners for all questions and the best recommendations on what to see in the Perigord.
Highly popular with holidaymakers they are fully booked each year.
After selling their business in Holland, Koos and Elly Van Hooven bought a camping car to travel France looking for their forever home. The interior architect and entrepreneur explains: â we needed a complete sea-change else business would continue to dominate our lives. We found the Perigord Noir, decided it was perfect for us and started looking for a secluded property with perhaps a simple renovation - a bathroom or library â but then we found Domaine de Pradelle!â
Not far from the ancient village of Ste AlvĂšre, famed for its truffle markets, Domaine de Pradelle is set above the valley and river â it charms from the instant you arrive. Built of glorious golden stone with Perigordine style roofs, the Chartreuse was built in the early 18th century. Symmetrical in style it looks over a courtyard with ancient chestnut trees. Now restored immaculately, light floods every room â each boasting its own fireplace â glorious living rooms are set garden-side, the luxurious master suite, another lounge and further rooms at road level.
Today the Domaine includes three highly enviable luxury gĂźtes set close to the glorious swimming pool carved out of rock! The first year they finished their home in the Castle in time for their family to come for Christmas (in true renovation style they'd lived on site in a caravan), however their gĂźtes Lavande, Glycines and Les Rosiers, each with three romantic bedrooms and wonderful living spaces, took far longer to create from semi-derelict buildings and cowsheds!
Attention to detail is keynote throughout â from retaining architectural features to energy-efficient solutions all bound with modern comfort â this restoration is simply superb!
But it is the perfection and charm of Domaine de Pradelle which inspire you to stay during your holiday in this glorious place.
Perigord Noir (Black Perigord) is the most visited region of the Dordogne, and includes many of the sights that you will already have heard of. This part of the Perigord is the richest in terms of beautiful villages, magnificent castles, pre-historic cave paintings and caves rich in stalactites and stalagmites. It really is a wonderful area and well worth visiting.
The Perigord Noir is the most popular part of the Perigord area.
