Lovely house, but beware!
The house is quite lovely being an estate in the countryside. The rooms are furnished sparingly with old furniture. But note that it is also rented out for parties, so when we were there, we didnât feel appropriate using the back lawn or the main house, so we were effectively stricken to our room, which didnât have any seating.
Also, beware âextra guest charges.â We rented two rooms with two double beds for four people (one of which was a child), and were charged an extra fee for two people because the owner claims they take up âmore water and more linens.â And it was to the tune of âŹ70/person/night, so itâs not a small fee. Ironically enough, one day we didnât have hot water for the whole day and the sink was running the entire time. While you have to expect that to happen in an old house in Italy, youâd also think the owner would comp us in some manner given the extra guest charges were for water use! At the very least, offer us a glass of wine (they own a vineyard after all!). Instead, when I inquired about the extra guest fee after we checked out, she actually told me that I left without paying for wine glasses my husband asked to borrow or the coke she gave my son!
Also note, the listing said there was breakfast available. There wasnât. Just espresso.
And finally, if youâre traveling with pets, note that the owner said after I left that she âallowedâ me to bring my pet in our room but that that was an exception. I inquired about bringing our dog and was told I could. Iâm not entirely sure where the owner would have liked me to keep my dog. Outside? Maybe he could have attended the parties? :)
All in all, itâs a lovely estate, but itâs a pity that the owners arenât reasonable or forthright about what would actually be available. They also generally make you feel like youâre not welcome in the home, so I wouldnât recommend staying.
