First off, I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. Joe was so friendly and flexible, responding to communication within a few days. I know places in Kernville are limited, so we are thankful this house could accommodate our family. The fridge and 4 bathrooms were a huge plus, and the wifi worked great. The game room was good for the kids, although rough and a bit creepy. The pinball machine was also broken.
It was just an okay stay, and addressing the following issues couldâve made it truly amazing:
-Fixing the several lights that were out downstairs. At night almost the entire living room was in the dark. Some of the electrical outlets didnât work.
-Placing window coverings over the windows. The bathrooms and bedrooms had no window coverings. Lack of Privacy and light were invasive
-Needed a thorough cleaning. It was surface âcleanedâ but several things were dusty, dirty, and hadnât been touched for a while. There are several large stains across the carpet.
-Spider webs and cob webs several places
-The air conditioner really didnât reach any of the upstairs. The house was muggy and the upstairs rooms were uncomfortably warm. On a 102 degree day, 79 degrees and humid inside wasnât pleasant.
-The beds, frames, sheets, and couches are old, stained, and not very comfortable.
-The code to the private river access didnât work, and it should be stated that itâs not very close to the house. We had older family members who could not walk to it.
-The stove wouldnât light and we had to ask a neighbor for some matches to light it.
-The kitchen cupboards were disorganized and lacked a few basic necessities like a pair of scissors and a lighter. Almost every dish we used needed to be washed before we used it. Cutlery and pans were dirty.
Some of the issues may seem nitpicking, but at the price point we paid per night we were expecting more. I think with some tender love and care this place could really be amazing.
