Gwynn's Island Cottage est un cottage en front de mer offrant une vue spectaculaire et doté de sa propre plage privée située sur la baie de Chesapeake, dans le pittoresque comté de Mathews, en Virginie. Le chalet peut accueillir 4 personnes dans 2 chambres. Vous pourrez apprécier une vue panoramique sur l’eau avec la vie sauvage et les oiseaux, la navigation de plaisance et les couchers de soleil sur l’eau depuis la superbe salle, la table de la salle à manger, la terrasse, la pelouse ou la plage. L'ouverture sur la grande baie de Chesapeake est visible depuis la chambre principale.

Le hangar propose des vélos, 2 kayaks, des planches à pagaie, des chaises de plage, des radeaux, une tente pour chiots, un hamac, des pots à crabe et des filets, ainsi qu'un jeu de croquet à l'usage des clients. Vous pourrez pêcher en kayak ou à la plage. L’île n’est pas seulement historique, elle est aussi un refuge de nature. Les clients apercevront des dauphins, des hérons bleus, des pygargues à tête blanche, des cygnes toundra, des canards et des huards, des balbuzards et plus encore, selon la saison.

La cuisine du cottage est entièrement équipée et comprend une douche extérieure basique. Un lave-linge et un sèche-linge sont à la disposition des clients.

À quelques pas du Cottage, vous trouverez une petite plage privée où vous pourrez nager, pêcher, crabe, pagaie, kayak, flotter sur un radeau, vous détendre ou siroter une boisson pour adultes. Hills Bay est un plan d'eau propre, peu profond et à fond de sable, parfait pour les enfants et les explorateurs. Après un rapide rinçage dans la douche extérieure après une journée sur la plage, vous pourrez utiliser le barbecue au charbon de bois pour cuisiner les prises du jour ou les fruits de mer frais du marché voisin. Et puis ce coucher de soleil ...

This was our fifth stay here and it somehow keeps getting better! The Cottage has everything you could ever want for a vacation, including amazing restaurants close by. The beautiful sunsets every night, the private beach with clear Hills Bay water, the peacefulness — and we get to enjoy it all with our dogs! Cheri could not be a better host and always goes above and beyond. We are so grateful that she shares her little piece of heaven!!

We truly cannot say enough wonderful things about this home and our host! This has become our absolute favorite place to stay, and there’s a reason we continue coming back. The home is beautiful, comfortable, incredibly well cared for, and always feels like such a special place to get away.Our host goes above and beyond to make every stay feel welcoming and thoughtful. You can genuinely tell how much care she puts into the home and into making sure her guests have a wonderful experience. We had a fabulous time at the cottage! It had everything you could possibly want to make your stay enjoyable and entertaining. We were there to rest & recuperate after some recent medical issues, so we didn't use any of the water/recreational equipment but it was available (hubby looked in the shed). Believe the extensive amenities listing -- Cheri was very accurate in listing what was provided and available for use.The photos posted of the cottage were also very accurate but they didn't convey how clean the cottage was (no inside bugs, even) and especially, the magnificent view. We were mesmerized by the view! Sitting in the great room, looking out of the windows, all we could see was water and sky. We felt like we were on a houseboat!At first, I didn't think I'd like being on the river side of Gwynn's instead of on the Bay side. Turns out, it was a plus. We didn't want to cook so it was really easy to get to the 2 island restaurants and to all the Mathews' restaurants.I also appreciated Cheri's helpfulness, hospitality and availability. I really enjoyed communicating with her. She made everything so easy for us and we'd love to return to the cottage again.

We had a lovely weekend stay at this inviting cozy cottage. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck and enjoying the views. The beach was perfect for wading and given more time I would have gone swimming. My husband enjoyed kayaking in the surrounding waters. The quiet island atmosphere was just what we wanted and we will return.

We have stayed at Gwynn’s Island Cottage four times now and each visit only gets better. Cheri is the most thoughtful and welcoming host — you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. The Cottage has always been immaculate and has everything you could ever think to need during your stay. The views, the water, the private beach.. it’s almost surreal. We bring our dog who enjoys the beach and water as much as we do. The sunsets every night are breathtaking. With great restaurants on the island and nearby in Mathews, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect location for a getaway. We are so thankful Cheri shares her little slice of heaven and are already looking forward to our next visit!!

Our stay is always so good for us. Our dog loves the easy in and out and all amenities are well thought out. We love seeing the eagles, herons, and osprey. We don’t fish but lots were jumping around ight out front.

Weekend getaway

It was a perfect spot for an intimate weekend getaway. The pups absolutely loved it, and Beaverdam park is close enough that we were able to get a nice long hoke in as well.

Always Gorgeous Chesapeake Bay

This is our second time staying at Gwynn’s Island Cottage. It is always quiet, beautiful, and cleanness place. It is a perfect place for Family!

I'm the lucky manager of Gwynn's Island Cottage who enjoys introducing friends, family, and guests to Gwynn's Island, Mathews County, and the surrounding areas on Virginia's spectacular Chesapeake Bay.

People like family introduced me to Mathews County decades ago.

Friends introduced me to Gwynn's Island, a true slice of heaven.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

The Cottage's private beach is the perfect place to lounge, launch a kayak or paddleboard, enjoy adult beverages, swim, crab, fish, watch a sunset over the water, or start a Solo stove fire on a starry night. It is located on our property and not shared with other properties.

The water views from the Cottage make guests feel like they are on a houseboat. From inside or on the deck or beach, guests enjoy spectacular sunsets over the water. Depending on the time of year, guests see blue herons, bald eagles, dolphins, swans, osprey, ducks, loons, seagulls and sandpipers. With a Coast Guard station on the Island and a yacht club across the water, guests enjoy lots of boating activity. Or they can bring their own boat as we have a long circular driveway and a boat marina 1/3 of a mile away.

Our Shed which has bikes to explore the island, 3 kayaks, a stand up paddleboard, a crab pot and nets, beach chairs, rafts, life vests of all sizes, a croquet set, pup tent, fishing rod, a Weber grill, grilling supplies, a folding table for crab picking in the yard, and more, free of cost.

Gwynn's Island, the location of the Revolutionary War battle which ousted the last British governor in Virginia, is rich in history. Hole In the Wall is a popular restaurant with outdoor dining overlooking the water just 1/3 of a mile from the Cottage. Gwynn's Island Museum is fascinating to visit. Guests step back in time and sloooow doowwnn their pace as soon as they cross the island bridge.

Mathews County has more shoreline than any other County in Virginia although it's the 2nd smallest geographically.

The Cottage is close to the idyllic water towns of Urbanna, Kilmarnock, and Irvington. A boat ride away is the Eastern Shore, Cape Charles, or Tangier Island. Historic Gloucester and Yorktown and its Battlefield where our country's freedom was gained are also nearby. Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg including Busch Gardens and Great Wolf Lodge are an hour away.
