The cottage was an ideal base for visiting lots of locations in the Peak District. After a days walking it was lovely to sit with the log burner going.
A fantastic little cottage with everything that you need! Very warm, clean and comfortable. Wood burner made evenings very cozy after long hikes.
5* overall!
The cottage was cosy with everything we needed including off street parking. We had some wonderful walks starting outside our front door. Close to towns and attractions.
Rachel was a great host and kept in touch in touch to check everything was ok. Would recommend highly.
We had a fantastic short break - the cottage is nice and cosy and perfectly located in the middle of the village. Opposite one pub, a few minutes walk from two others, great walks from the doorstep and a bus from the village gets you into Bakewell in 10-15 mins. Thanks Rachel!
The location of this property is excellent with great walks on the doorstep and, despite it being a fairly small village, 3 pubs, 2 bakeries and a village store all within a few minutes walk. The property itself is cosy and very comfortable. The owner is excellent - very responsive when we had a small issue to resolve. Worth noting that the outside space is small (as advertised) which might not suit all dogs.
The perfect little cottage in the perfect location.
This was our second visit to Thimble Cottage as both my wife and I really enjoyed our stay last time.
The cottage itself is small but absolutely perfect for two people and has everything you could wish for, and sitting by a log fire with a glass of wine of an evening after a long walk is the best way to round off your day.
My only complaint is that the bed is so comfortable that it is almost impossible to get out of it in the mornings!
We had a great time with our golden retriever in this cosy compact house. Very well situated in a quiet village with an excellent pub opposite. Great walks from the property. Excellent host - can recommend.
The other reviews say it all - perfect cottage for two and ideal base for exploring the Peak District. Super location if you have a dog and our 'Charlie' enjoyed all the walks down by the river - plus you get to choose any one of three pubs to end your walk! And that's just staying local - we also did Chatsworth House (a must, super day out), Bakewell, Matlock and the Monsal Trail. Overall a fab few days, we were lucky with gorgeous September sunshine and I thoroughly recommend this cottage.
Lovely little cottage . The courtyard garden is smaller than I anticipated, which with a dog was a little bit of a problem for me. Apart from that a lovely stay .
Great little cottage in a really nice village location. Warm and cosy. Well equipped. Well maintained. Really nice walks straight from the door. Just enough facilities in the village to mean the car was little used (good news). Only slight niggle was quite a lot of rules seemingly. I am sure they are required, however.
a cozy cottage, an ideal base for exploring the Peak District.
a nice walk in the county, good food in one of the 3 excellent village pubs, and a bottle of wine snuggled up on the sofa of this lovely cozy cottage. The bed is so comfortable for a good nights rest after a full day. A lovely cottage in a lovely village.
Just what we were looking for - this cosy cottage is in a lovely village set in a beautiful part of the country, with country walks from the front door, pubs and village stores for supplies and good food. Nice walk into Bakewell which is also a lovely little town.
Cottage was great - had everything you need for a couple of days downtime. Has been nicely updated. Exceptionally comfortable bed.
Take your own condiments though!
Owner was friendly and helpful in her communication.
Thimble Cottage is situated in a lovely friendly village with a couple of good local shops and three pubs. Lovely walks close by. The cottage itself is small and quaint and very cosy. The woodburner was a real treat on the cooler evenings. The bed was really comfy with crisp clean bedding and plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. The bathroom facilities were good, lovely touches of ample shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. The kitchen provided all the mod cons you would need to self cater even though we chose to eat out.. The garden yard was very small but I am sure would be quite pleasant to sit out in on a warm evening. I would definitely recommend staying at Thimble Cottage for the quaintness, the village and good to have parking close by.
We did the long walk from the cottage to the Bulls Head at Monyash but added in over Haddon too. Dinner at farm yard inn. Kayaked at Carsington waters and walked round Carsington too. Just had such a wonderful time
Lovely little cottage, warm and inviting, comfortable furnishing and well equipped kitchen. nice little sitting out area that has the sun late afternoon.
Love the area walks straight from the door, 3 pubs all within a short distance, food at the George good and huge portions.
We loved this little cottage and will definitely be booking again.
The fluffy robes were a lovely added extra and the small rear garden was great for our dog. The walks around the village and the area were fabulous and we had a couple of lovely meals at the Farmyard Inn.
Bakewell is a must as is Chatsworth but we didn't venture much further.
Thank you Rachel for great customer service and for creating a real home from home, we will certainly be back.
We spent a wonderful 3 nights at this delightful little cottage. It was far too short and we definitely need to return for longer next time.
We loved the comfortable bed, we overslept every morning ! and although we didn't need to, we lit the woodburner each evening. The large corner sofa was just perfect for lazing around on in the evenings.
We ate out in Bakewell a couple of times and a must is the Chatsworth Farm shop which sells such wonderful treats; breakfast or afternoon tea in the cafe there is also a must.
Thanks very much for a wonderful stay, we're already looking forward to our next visit.
We've been staying at Rachel's cottages for the past 10 years and we have a great affection for Thimble Cottage as it was the first of Rachel's cottages that we stayed in. She has improved it considerably over the years and like all her cottages we love going back and seeing the improvements. As soon as we walk in it feels like coming home.
Thimble Cottage has a woodburner in the sitting room which is lovely for cosy evenings in.
Our favourite of the 3 village pubs is The Farmyard Inn which is just a short walk away and serves good pub food, I wouldn't describe it as a gastropub but the service is always friendly and efficient and the food is very good.
We love Bakewell and always stock up with Bakewell puddings to take home and we would also recommend The Farm Shop at Chatsworth where there is a lovely cafe with stunning views and most importantly they serve a full cooked breakfast - yum yum.
This cottage lived up to our expectations and we hardly want to write a review and would prefer to keep the secret to ourselves. The cottage is clean and full of character. It has a view into the village, which we also liked. We loved the village, which is peaceful and welcoming and in close proximity to Bakewell. The owners and housekeeper are equally approachable and helpful. Please don't pass this on, as we want to go back ourselves.
This was our second stay at Thimble Cottage and my wife and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The cottage is very well equipped with a well thought out kitchen, DVD selection, internet access, plenty of hot water, under floor heating and a wood burner. The bed has a memory foam mattress and is heavenly after a long day's walk in the beautiful countryside. We loved being in the centre of the village, but, literally, five minutes walk away from the most gorgeous white peak countryside. The first time we stayed, at Easter, we made use of the wood burner, which was fantastic and heated up the cottage within minutes. If you want a relaxed, country retreat at a a very reasonable rate we would highly recommend Thimble Cottage. We'll definitely be visiting again.

Rachel looks forward to welcoming you to Thimble Cottage.
Rachel loves the area, the countryside is so beautiful, the people are so friendly and there is so much to see and do, or the guests just relax and unwind. The cottage is an ideal bolthole from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Having spent many years renting other people's cottages, Rachel have learnt that home comforts are essential for a relaxing holiday. She has filled the cottage with many luxury items which she thinks you will love and she looks forward to sharing her cottage with you.
The cottage is conveniently located in the heart of the village within easy strolling distance of the 3 village pubs all of which accept pets and serve good reasonably priced food.
We encourage our guests to shop locally as much as possible. There are 2 butchers in the village which double up as village stores / Post Office and sell all the essentials.
